I'm currently playing as Nantes in Ligue 1 and one of the strikers in my squad is so outrageously awful that I cannot remember having had a worse player in 10 years of playing FM.

Johan Audel is his name and in 23 matches he has managed to score 3 goals, wasted probably 30 good scoring chances, played us out of the French Cup against a Ligue 2 club, missed a game-deciding penalty shot and earned a horrendous 6.30 average rating. He's far from the worst player I've had in terms of attributes, but in actual on-the-pitch performance he's the worst I've ever seen.

What are your worst horror stories?

On FM 13 I signed some Chinese striker called Lu Bofei from Real Madrid for £18.5m. He had scored something like 44 goals in 47 games so I thought this would be a great deal. He went on to get 1 goal in 5 seasons for me...

I've had some pretty bad strikers throughout my current career but because they're newgens, I can't remember his name but one I had at Shakhtar had good stats for a striker if I remember correctly but he couldn't even score in a brothel - think he scored about five times in twenty appearances and needless to say I ended up getting the sack because of him.

I never understood why he couldn't score. He had the ability and was surrounded by world class players but just couldn't do the business. Think I ended up selling him for about £10m to either Marseille or Milan, can't remember. I would load up the save if I could but I lost it when my laptop died last year

Nobody would buy him from me and I didn't want to pay to release him. Also he was a young player so I hung on to him for a bit just incase he improved.

Audel was quite tidy on an FM in times gone by,

I've had plenty shite down the years, can't be bothered to dust the cobwebs and trawl my mind archives. So I shall give you a player from my current game. 19 games into a season with Palermo in 2050. Vittorio Di Martino. CM I got from Chievo, had my eyes on him being a starting MC alongside some Nigerian I nabbed from Genoa. So far Di Martino has averaged a 6.7 and a 34 year old Romanian is keeping him out the side.

He's just got an assist + a goal vs Roma. Di Martino, I know you're out there, you're sound as anything son.

My worst player is now Leonard Trgovcevic. A Croatian AMRL ST whom I nabbed on a free from Liverpool, just turned 24 and pace to burn. Hasn't caught any sort of form since joining and I had him pegged as my starting AMR. Hoping he comes into his own in the second half of the season / after reading this.

Not really have worst player on early FM versions, until I signed Manolo Gabbiadini for 17m on FM 15 and he just scored 3 Goals for 2 seasons all Competitions (always hit the woodwork or horrible miss in front of goal)..

Managed to be nice striker before i signed him, he scored 20 goals in 30 games at Napoli

Karim Rekik is driving me nuts, keeps playing well but is constantly giving away pens, had a few strikers in previous years with unreal stats and great goal scoring record then seem to turn to mush as soon as they enter England.

Probably not the worst ever but the most disappointing I can remember. Mattia Destro really got me fired from AC Milan in FM2015... Never seen a striker losing so many opportunities per match! Just rubbish!

Out of interest, what makes a player so bad in FM? If you look at the hidden attributes of a player there are only a few things that could have this effect. Consistency, adaptability perhaps? Injury prone? I've had some world class strikers, and for some reason, even if they are consistent they will have a run of poor matches.

It can be one of or a combination of things, from stats such as consistency, adaptability to his confidence levels, injuries, your tactics not suiting him, etc

You'll never nail it 100% everytime, I've signed players who I thought would suit my tactics perfectly, everything seemed to be lined up. But for whatever reason the stars just never aligned. On the flipside I've signed players for backup roles and they've ended up exceeding my expectations and landing starting berths.

At this point I now avoid players who the scouts find to be injury prone or inconsistent (unless they are under 22 as a lot of players under that age are listed as inconsistent)

I signed Pedro on FM14 I think it was, I had my wingers swapping sides with eachother so I thought, he is perfect for this.

Averaged 6.2 - 6.7 Every game, truly awful. Didn't even chip in with the off assist or goal.

i brought david villa from valencia to man utd in a previous FM game for a ridiculous amount of money, he was an incredible player at that time and i thought he would destroy the league but he just didn't adapt to the premier league at all, he was like soldado at spurs, couldn't hit a cows backside with a banjo, i had to move him to the bench eventually as he was costing me points. it was a very expensive installments deal so it majorly hampered me in future transfer windows as i was still paying it off, all told it was a disaster of a signing.

I bought him for some silly amount of money when I was playing with Hamburg on FM14 and he was absolutely amazing.

I always see Arsenal transfer list him after about 2 or 3 seasons and I managed to buy him for Middlesbrough for about £5m.

FM15 underrates central midfielders who don't constantly produce goals and assists, the average ratings don't reflect the actual play.

I've had a lot of joy with Deep Lying Playmaker (support) at DMC and then two Box to Box MCs infront. I still feel at times though I could get more from my MCs, I want to try and get one of the MCs changed to something else but I'm not quite sure what. Potentially an Advanced Playmaker support as that used to work a treat in previous FMs.

NOO!?? he was quality for my network arsenal game in 2013 and 2014. i hasten to add that my quality scouts didn't rate him for my Fulham team when i got promoted in my first season in FM15....

His failed transfer to Ajax in real life was what really spurred on Cruijff returning to the club and trying to get them to rediscover their academy routes.

I've had many an imaginary argument with my scouts during my time with Palermo. They just don't seem to rate any player as good enough to play for us, yet when such a player joins both the ast man (JCA 20 JPP 17) and my head of youth development (20 20) seem to love them. Must be some sort of rep issue down somewhere down the line

Julian Draxler. I paid around £46m for him as Arsenal on FM15, having been banging them in for about 4 seasons with Schalke. He came in, scored 1 in 14, then got dropped for an agind Danny Welbeck.

I sold him for £20m to Southampton two seasons later. I'll never sign him again!
