No, he is usually our most reliable player. His kicking has always been terrible though so those poor kicks were nothing out of the ordinary.

I thought Noble might have a shout of getting in but at least Townsend is finally gone.

I'd honestly go with a midfield three of Dier, Alli & Drinkwater, although we'll probably have to put up with Henderson, Milner & Wilshere again by the time the tournament starts.

Really don't think Drinkwater has enough about him, even though he's having a good season.

Glad to see Carrick out of the side though, both selfishly because he really needs a break, and as a recognition that is forms been awful.

But fuck me, it really puts into perspective how shit English football is at the minute when thats the best we can cobble together.

I'd have had Noble in for Dier (really don't rate him) and fuck knows how Walcott and Sturridge got selected either. Though looking at that squad we look absolutely awful defensively, ok-ish in midfield and Harry Kane aside shite upfront, how depressing.

If Wilshere is fit he has to play - he's been outstanding for England since the last World Cup, really. As much as people hate him.

Not sure what Walcott has done to get into the squad, either.

Is the much maligned English youth system really coming home to roost at the moment or something? That looks like an awfully weak squad. Even when you guys have performed poorly on the international scene you always had a pretty damn good selection of players to choose from.

Laughable how people think Wilshere shouldn't walk straight into the side when fit. Decision is who to play alongside him and behind him. Dier got made look amateur tonight and Henderson is well average.

Reckon an Alli - Wilshere partnership could be great, both brilliant technically yet still have a sense of nastiness about them.

Them two with Vardy, Kane & Sterling ahead of them would lead to some of the best counter attacking football we've seen for us. Unfortunately Rooney's got a perma-place in the squad to slow everything down.

I think most people would agree with that, but sadly we have a manager more interested in reputations.

I think a midfield 3 of Dier-Wilshere-Ali would be great.

Dier is going to have bad games, defending is an old mans game and he's young. He'll be a great player I think.

Dier is awesome, he has been vital for us this season and we are definitely a better team when he plays. One thing I think most people forget is that he came through the Portuguese system and is in fact very good technically for someone in his role.

So, let's have some preferred line ups from that lot:

----------------------Forster-----------------
Walker - Smalling - Stones - Rose
-------------------------Dier-------------------
--------------Milner - Alli - Lallana-------
-------------------Vardy - Kane-------------

If need be, Dier can pull back into defence and Walker/Rose push up as wing backs.

Hart
Clyne Smalling Cahill Rose
Ali Dier
Sterling Lallana Barkley
Kane

I'd start with that.

From the players we've got available for the next two games I think I might have to go with:

Butland
Walker - Smalling - Stones - Rose
Milner - Dier - Barkley
Lallana
Kane - Vardy

As much as I love Dele Alli, I just don't know if I could put him in as a starter yet. I know I said i'd have him with Drinkwater, but I kind of forgot we are playing Germany....

Oh aye forgot Sterling and Hart are injured.

Sub in Ali for Sterling and stick Drinkwater in the middle and Butland for Hart.

Going to be controversial with my selection, but will try to explain my reasons..

GK - Joe Hart. Pretty standard, actually the other two options are also good and probably had better seasons (Butland / Forster) but he has more experience I guess. Don't think it really matters who plays here though.

RB - Between Walker / Clyne, not going to lie I haven't seen enough of Walker to comment but with Tottenham flying maybe he deserves a spot? Clyne is a little raw, bit like a slightly improved version of Glen Johnson.

CB - Smalling. One positive from Uniteds season. Looks to have settled down quite nicely.

CB - I'd like to take someone like Scott Dann here, but one I don't think it will ever happen, two Palace have sort of come off the boil with their recent form. It'll be between Cahill and Stones, doesn't really matter which one, would argue both have sort of passed by this season.

LB - Rose / Baines. I like the idea of Rose and he's had a good season, while Baines is sort of a solid but nothing spectacular player. Will probably get started just based on that.

CM - Milner. Not the greatest footballer, but you know what you're getting with him. Solid. Will run his socks off and think he will be a good option in there. Intresting option having him and Henderson, but if I had to pick one it would be Milner right now.

CM - Dele Alli. Fantastic season, looks to have a bright future if he keeps his feet on the floor. Think giving him a position slightly ahead of the other 2 CM's would be perfect.

CM - Really open one. Anyone out of Henderson/Wilshere/Dier/Barkley and maybe even Carrick. Each a completely different player so it depends what we need. I would even consider playing Rooney here based on the fact he probably just has to play, and he'd waste an option up front. Think Sterling is also an interesting option in some sort of CAM position. If I was biased I'd probably pick Henderson.. but I don't think he's that great, tries to many hollywood balls after Gerrard's gone and will limit our passing. If they could set to a strict tactic of him and Milner just doing the running and retaining possession I think it could work, but I don't think any of the midfield 3 are disciplined enough for that.

RF - Jamie Vardy. Has to start. Goals dried up a little but his running is second to none, will cause problems.

ST - Harry Kane. If he keeps up this goalscoring form he'll be shit hot at the Euros and he will get a fair few chances. Seems the best/most natural finisher out the lot.

LF - If he's fit (he looks very rusty at the moment but that's understandable after his injuries) then Daniel Sturridge. The link up between that front 3 could be ridiculous. If he's not fit then probably Sterling, who's not set the world alight this season.

Never going to happen but think it would be interesting to watch, although probably some mad bias in there.. That front 3 definitely looks tasty though. The squad's not all that bad, hoping for a little surprise if they don't bottle as usual. Actual team will be something like bmg033 posted except with Rooney in there somewhere.

Am I the only one who wouldn't play Vardy unless he finishes the season ridiculously strongly?

I thought we all knew he was an average player who went through a purple patch of goalscoring form before Christmas. If he was still in that form, or the Euro's were held in November, then fine. But unless he's scoring goals, I don't see how he can start.

Yeah i agree, Kane up top with the 3 in behind him is the best bet given recent form.

Can't really not play him after that season, it's not just the goals he gives to the team either. Purple patch or whatever you call it, he's got 19 goals and broke the goal scoring record..

Well you can when he's not been the best English number 9 in the Premier League this season. Sure, you can shoe-horn him in on the right or left, but thats not really been where he was dangerous for Leicester, and I don't really see him giving us anything more than Welbeck would there. In fact, if he carries on not scoring, I think he probably gives us less.

Lets be honest though, Roy has his favourites its going to be Kane up top, Rooney behind him, Sterling on the left and welbeck on the right.
