Doumbia and Berahino would be quite a pairing, fast as fuck.

Apparently the bid has been rejected though, West Brom must be mortal drunk.

I reckon it's weird how everyone was so outraged at Spurs asking for £14m for Townsend, doesn't seem any worse than £7m for Gomis, £12m for Shelvey of £21-£25m we're apparenly quoted for Berahino.

Are people sure Doumbia is quick? He looks very old for a 28 year old.

One shite transfer doesn't mean other shite transfers get off the hook.

£12m for Shelvey is a lot better than £14m for Townsend regardless, you can guarantee the match commentary would be "long distance shot by Townsend, off target" non-stop for 90 mins

Aye, Shelvey notorious for not being bad and frequent at long distance shots.

Well if he can pass the ball five yards, he'll be an improvement on the former winger.

Honestly - I've always liked Townsend. - but he really does seem to get a a hell of a stick from Spurs fans.

Pulis no doubt salivating about all the centre backs's he can sign - then playat full back a few times, before benching them for Craig Dawson.

Probably because of these stats versus a world class winger

Newcastle bid £21M for Berahino.

Also racist cunt is leaving Chelsea at the end of the season.

I really hope this largesse doesn't bit us on the arse. Especially if we go down having spent £100m+

If only we'd spent stupid money in summer 2012, then we might be UCL regulars. Oh well. Let bygones be bygones and whatnot. Although equally as ridiculous/stupid are West Brom for turning down 2 bids north of £20m for Berahino.

Aside from the economics of the deal (which I don't think are that bad considering that all Premier League clubs are loaded these days) I don't really understand why Townsend's drawing so much abuse.

I mean @Based Jorge what are you trying to prove? No shit he's not as good as Hazard, if Newcastle could have bought a player that was as good as that they would have, but he's good enough to be playing in the Premier League, and better than what they've got already. If one of our clubs had bought him then by all means, but I think its a good move for both Newcastle and Townsend.

I don't know them stats are from 2013/14 - Townsend might be better than Hazard now!!

Proving the point that all he does for 90mins is shoot outside the box & not score and is the biggest waste of £14m I've possibly seen in a long time

He's worth about £5m max and that's including the trademarked English premium

By comparing him to a winger who was the best in the country that year? Just an odd comparison.

I think there's a decent player in there somewhere. Certainly not a Tottenham standard one, and certainly not an England international but decent nonetheless.

But on the fee, I reckon £12m is a decent fee. When average players like Steven Naismith are going for the prices they're going for its a pretty solid indication the markets shifted again. Absolutely anything ~£10m is the going rate for any half decent English player not playing in League One or below. Even Championship clubs are spending that sort of money on players.

Doesn't seem worse than than the likes of Michail Antonio going for £8m, or Matt Phillips apparently being around for £8m, James Chester for £8m etc. - Probably achieved as much if not more that 'the Ox' at International level - and he would probably go for £25m+

Newcastle got £12m for Debuchy ffs.

You'd have got similar reactions from United fans regarding Gibson, Cleverly etc... but they're performing adequately in Premier League teams.

A lot of people lose perspective and think if they're not good enough for a good side then they should be paying their £5 to play ametuer football.

I think thats where we're at with Townsend.

We'd get £25m+ for Ox mainly because most people still believe he's a good player with huge potential, baffling to me as he hasn't improved since he's come here.

The market for English players is absurd, just because Newcastle's scouting team is horrific it doesn't mean they should buy shite English players when there's better options abroad

Townsend will definitely be better than Thauvin who cost the same amount of money - and will almost certainly be better than Cabella.

Are you surprised Oxlade-Chamberlain has regressed? Pretty much every Arsenal player has, Wilshere, Walcott and Welbeck all have, as well as the likes of Chambers and Szczesny. Bellerin only became good because he was an accident.

Welbeck wasn't going anywhere before he joined Arsenal, though.

All those other players were signed from clubs lower than Arsenal at the time, and the others were from their academy's.
