Not saying they're unbeatable, just saying Liverpool aren't gonna do it.

True, look who sits second and what Dortmund did to them! Don't get me wrong though, I would like Liverpool to win the Europa League as the last British team in the competition this season.

If City finish 6th and Man United 5th (let's say West Ham nick 4th) and neither of them win the FA Cup - would that mean United would finish above City but not be in Europe?

No, it would mean whomever finishes 7th misses out on EL.

Tottenham basically threw that match though by not playing their best lineup, cant see Klopp resting anyone for the Europa League

Have the rules regarding CL qualification from the Europa League come in yet? If so is there a hypothetical situation where both Liverpool and City win the respective competitions and take the 3rd and 4th European spot?

Yeah, fourth place would lose their CL spot and drop into the Europa League.

I know Man City fans say their academy is doing really well - surely one of them can't be any less of a disaster than Demichelis has so far been.

At least one. Tosin Adarabioyo played alongside him in the FA Cup against Chelsea. He was better then, I fail to see how he wouldn't be better now. I absolutely do not expect Pellegrini to make that change though, to say he plays favourites would be a massive understatement.

Guess bluemoon was right, they are shite.

A silver lining at least.

Man City really did look toothless. Quite odd for a team that's had so many tens of millions thrown at it.

The job Pellegrini's done on us has been incredible.

Knew City were poor but didn't realise they were that bad.

I've been trying to tell people for ages!

It's a bit of a strange one tbf. Might as well remove Pelligrini now in my opinion and just get one of the backroom staff who will be there when Pep comes in to look after the team until the season end. Txiki is Director of Football, surely he can step in?

Unfortunately the only person who really fits the bill there is Brian Kidd, and he's a bad manager in his own right.

Anyway, that went about as well as I expected. Though a little bit more slapstick than I thought and not as many goals either.

Pellegrini's a disgrace etc etc.

Remi Garde has apparently been sacked. Either that or it's very very close.

He had no chance at Villa. A complete mess.

How Villa can have the audacity to sack Remi Garde is beyond me

Same, strange decision to accept it.

He'll be hoping that everyone will just know Villa are a shambles from top to bottom and so his reputation won't be tarnished too much.

Won't it?

No doubt they were a shambles before he turned up, and are a shambles after he's left, but nevertheless they looked better with Sherwood at the helm. He took over in, what, November? And have only got worse since he's been there. Whether he's most culpable for their demise or not, and you'd be hard pushed to argue he has been, he's clearly culpable and has done a very poor job.

Supposedly Garde will be back at Lyon come the start of next season, though.

He is culpable but the squad he had was hopeless and needed freshening up in January which the board just weren't interested in.

His reputation will definitely be slightly tarnished in England but I reckon he'd still be able to secure a good job in France.

But about 2p net.

They only just stayed up last season and sold their best two players without replacing them. Hardly the recipe for success.

£50m should have been enough to replace a striker who had scored 13 goals last season and a slightly above average midfielder. He brought in far to many different nationalities in one go and it was fairly obvious that so many at once were never exactly gonna 'gel' very quickly. Then add to the fact that it turned out none of them were actually any good either and the club had no chance this season and nor did any other manager taking over from Sherwood.

Who next for Villa then? Pearson? Don't think it would be too bad a shout, though he likes to buy a lot of average players also, in the hope one or two are a hit.

Their wage bill went down about £4m over that summer so it seems a classic case of not wanting to stump up the cash to get a better calibre of player as much as it Sherwood being a poor judge of player (I also have no idea how much influence the manager has signing players there, from an outside perspective they always seem to go after the same sort of players, suggesting that the manager might not be in charge of transfers).

I'm sure they have a transfer committee ala Newcastle.

Strange that we're occupying 19th and 20th in the table isn't it.
