Surely the argument that Drinkwater should go because he played for the champions is exactly the same as saying that he should be going because of who he played for rather than because of what he did?

I just don't think he's a very good player, sure, he had a better season than some that have gone. But he also played next to the one man midfield that was Kante and hasn't looked remotely comfortable at this level against some fairly indifferent opposition. Its hardly a national scandal he's not going.

Disagree. Drinkwater's been class this year, part of the reason Vardy and Mahrez played so well was him supplying with Kante being the beast next to him.

Also bmg033 makes kind of a good point, but other than I would have put it.. Germany left out Reus because of injury concerns yet Wilshere 'has to go'.

Well yeah some people are rueing Drinkwater missing the squad whereas Spain don't have Santi, Saul, Mata etc.

Drinkwater simply doesn't fit the system, he isn't a versatile player and looked average without a Kante next to him doing all the hard work and he wasn't just able to ping balls over the top for Vardy. Löw also said that Reus couldn't walk in a straight line, more than just a concern there.

I don't think anyones disputing that Drinkwater had a good season but, rather, whether he had such a good season that he should be going to the Euros.

Also doesn't the Reus argument make an absolute mockery of your argument in regards to Sturridge rather than Wilshere? Reus' injury 'concerns' are that he's, like Sturridge was, although far more seriously, actually injured. Compared to Wilshere who, well, isn't? I'm failing to see the logic here.

I'm not saying Drinkwater gets in just because he played for the champions, i'm saying he gets in because of how well he played for a team that won the league with ease. There is a big difference there.

Germany took Scweinsteiger and Podolski ffs. Other nations are often just as hopeless.

Thank you Hodgson for being so hopeless and inept for leaving out Townsend. Hope everyone just sorts of forgets about him now.

Spain took Pedro, France took Sissoko, every single nation does it.

I think Drinkwater is a little stiff. With the way England lack defensively, not having that extra protective player could backfire, particularly if injuries or suspensions hit and mean Dier has to move to CB.

It's easier to justify taking the cocks that are Wilshire and Sturridge when there's plenty of cover for their position if they do happen to break down.

It's people like Owen that make me wonder why people prefer pundits who 'know what they're talking about'

Couldn't even get in a bottom half Premier League team towards the end of the season.

England's strongest team out tonight in probably their best formation to play in the finals...

I think he starts with Milner in the first game as he trusts him. Wilshere to gradually force his way in imo

Best team out tonight, maybe swap Drinkwater Wilshere for Milner and were set. Although Milner is more solid option, especially as Im not 100% set on Dier who can be a bit clumsy

Lalana for Vardy, Wilshere for Milner and Henderson for Dier.

Henderson couldn't hold a fart never mind a midfield.

Dier is a far better holding player.

Well out of those two it'd clearly have to be Big Sam. Bruce is steady enough but his top flight record pales in comparison to that of Sam.

In fact I'd say that if the FA want to give it to an English manager, then it's a no-brainer for it to be Big Sam. He'd come in and decide his strongest team, find a system to suit them then stick with it, something Hodgson was still making up as he went along in France despite over 4 years in the job.

Sideways step. Similar if not worse calibre of manager than Hodgson.
