Simply don't agree with a national team having a foreign manager and i personally feel that the only reason one would take the job is because of the massive pay packet that comes with it, not because there heart and soul is in seeing England do well.

Whilst I agree completely, I think managing a team in the modern day has a lot more to do with managing players and tactics rather than having heart, soul and passion.

In an ideal world I'd agree with you. Hell, even if we had two relatively equal candidates I would favour the English one.

But the reality is all the candidates we have are shit, and no amount of heart and soul is going to make Pardew or Southgate a better manager than an overseas one.

Idealistically every nation's national team should be the best that that nation can offer in everything; coaches, players, managers etc... so I think we should have an English coach. Maybe the lack of quality will cause the FA to wake up and do more than twiddle their thumbs... maybe not though.

I also agree with both of these posts.

English football is in dire need of serious reform from the ground and up, but the success of the Premier League and the culture of the English media and the FA make it a virtual guarantee that such a reform will never happen.

Might as well go with an England manager. - on the basis of I'd be against naturalizing non English players no matter how good they are - I actually think Pardew would be a very good choice, I think international management would play to his strengths and hide his weaknesses, and he'd probably go for it, which England have looked incapable of since before the World Cup.

And fwif people are obsessed with England's failures. No doubt Holland will have an 'outstanding philosophy' in a few months time. Zlatan's failure to look the part will be forgotten. Italy's failure to produce any player who is actually a top footballer.

They've replaced Pirlo with Giaccherini and haven't gotten out the group stages of the world cup in 10 years. Root and branch review please.

imo the next England manager needs to be given a 2 year deal, stop trying to build a dynasty. No way for example Conte would have taken the job if he was expected to be there for 6 years. It will limit the the managers willing to take it massively.

Portugal, Belgium, France and Italy to get through I think! Very impressed by Italy yesterday, Conte has really got them going. Was pleasantly surprised by how good Eder was too. Him and Pellè might not exactly be Inzaghi and Vieri but I can see why Conte has paired them.

As for England....don't think there's anything else to be said. Still can't believe it though, that 'performance' last night.

Just heard on the radio we might be reinstated to the Euros, Iceland fielded an ineligible player against us, apparently they are meeting now to discuss the situation. I can't find anything about it elsewhere though so it's possible they just picked up on a rumour and reported it as fact.

Edit: Sadly the presenter admitted it was a wind-up after having over 1000 emails, texts and tweets in the space of twenty minutes. Fell for that one.
