I suggest everybody clicks the "Notify me when updated" button to receive an email when the file is updated/amended in the future.
This file will need to be re-applied if/when patches/updates are released and when the full game comes out to ensure full compatibility. This is due to the fact that some files which are removed when installing this file are automatically re-installed by Steam when official patches come out.
Some of these changes, ESPECIALLY THE CLUB NAMES, may not apply in FMT or in existing save-games. There's a workaround for that in the first post.
The sortitoutsi real names fix changes the instances of fake names in Football Manager 2017 to the proper, real life names for awards, cities, stadiums and competitions, in cases where the actual name is not licensed. It will also fix the fact that the German and Japanese National teams don't call up real players. These are fully save-game compatible.
There is also a club name changes file, which changes the names of clubs in a way which ensures that any nicknames entered in the default database are retained. This file includes the proper names for German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and French clubs to circumvent licensing restrictions. It also adds real-life media and journalists, encompassing most major footballing nations and continents. Finally, it includes a small file which corrects the 3-Letter competition names to correspond with any changes made in the lnc files. For all the files in this paragraph to work, however, you will need to start a new game.

To make sure the files have been applied correctly, go to the Champions Cup and EURO Vase in your saved game, and they should be renamed to Champions League and Europa League respectively. If you are in the middle of a save-game, German national teams will be populated in the next instance that players are called up, and not instantly.
Club names are only changed if you apply the editor data files before starting a new game. For a workaround if you've already started a new save-game, then please read the opening post of this thread.

I know, I know
But it's literally a case of opening the file with notepad, edit, replace, type #CLUB in the first field and CLUB in the second and clicking replace all. Then save and close. All of 3 seconds

Do the data editor or in-game editor offer scope to easily correct club names, three-letter competition names, or journalists etc.? It's either that or wait just over a week to begin my save in earnest otherwise, which is a horrifying thought.
Excellent work on the fixes by the way, download them for each edition of the game and greatly appreciate the work you put in.
mons
This file would generally include easy fixes and additions for all three elements you mention. However, since this version of the game is still in beta, neither editor is available at the moment, and editor data files are not enabled. So you literally have no way of fixing them presently.
The aim is for the above fixes to be included in the release of the file as soon as possible after the game is released.

When I click on them it says they are not supported.

I'm afraid I don't use Mac so I can't really help.
But do a search online for the FM installation folder and see if you get any leads. It must be somewhere after all, no?
Also an unrelated question, I just signed up for premium access which worked out at £10 a year. In a year will I be charged £10 again or will my premium access just stop?

Both name fixes are in place already
For the second query, I believe it's the former - but you should be best advice to ask Rob in the site feedback forum...

Read the opening post and the first post for reasons why this is the case and for a temporary workaround until the full game comes out.
Sorry, I'm an idiot. I just realised I downloaded a name fix from another site. I'll download this one.

I always try to have it out on the day itself, but it depends.
Hmm, go into your 1700 and 1701 dbc/permanent folders. There may be files named Licensing.dbc and brazilkits.dbc (not 100%sure about the name of this one, but it's definitely something similar). Delete them both
phd_angel
mons - Thanks for the suggestion, but I had already deleted those files. I went again and also deleted dbc fille "forbidden club names". I then reopened FM17, cleared cache, reloaded skin, to no avail. The three-letter Brazilian club names are still there (e.g., FLA instead of Flamengo).
I'm in the middle of a game now (coaching Reggina in Italy), and I prefer not to start a new game... It seems that new patches to the game are canceling name fixes.
Any other suggestions? Thanks again.
Renato Cabral
That's because fans get really upset when their teams are called by city and not club name.
mons
Did you start your saved game before or after the latest beta patch?
phd_angel
I believe it was before patch 17.0.2. In any case, when I started the game, I made sure the club names were fine (otherwise I wouldn't have started). But now the fubar names are there again. Any help is appreciated.
mons
I'm finding it hard to understand because dbc files, by their very nature, can only take effect before starting a new game
Can you start a new game now and tell me if the issue is still present? Appreciate if you could upload screenshot of your 1700 and 1701 dbc/permanent folders, and in-game too
mons
When the Portuguese name fixes needed to be included in this file for the first time, I literally copied and pasted the data used by SI in the previous year's version. So what you see are the "official" database names for both clubs. Besides, having one club as Vitória SC and another as Vitória FC is unnecessarily confusing. I'm afraid I don't think I'll be making any changes to the current names for the time being.
The beauty of this file, however, is that you can edit the file yourself and make these changes to your game, if you feel so strongly about it

Sorry, I forgot to add my answer:
Brazilian club names are correct if I start a new game.
However, in the patched game I'm currently playing, club names are abbreviated (FLA). I can assure you that I wouldn't have started the game with the wrong names.
