Did little else to impress me yesterday other than score twice past our awful defence twice.

If DIouf and CIsse were ever in the same room it would probably implode.

You have got to say that El-Hadji Diouf has been marvellous since he’s come to the club.

He invites everyone into the game and his control is good. Funnily enough, we were talking on Friday night about the only contribution he needed was a few goals now and lo and behold, he sticks a couple in at Bristol!

He’s been terrific since he has been at the football club.

Looking at us as a side now, we’re starting to knock the ball around. But Diouf cannot play any other way; he’s not one who wants to be chasing long balls into the corners and fighting with centre-halves up in the air. That’s not his game.

He gets the ball into his feet and makes the game flow and brings others into the game.

He’s got so much talent and looks so relaxed on the ball because he is just so confident in his own ability.

He’s a great touch and is a good passer and crosser of the ball. We saw his set-piece quality with the free-kick which saw Rodolph Austin hit the bar and with another in which the Bristol goalkeeper made a great save.

When Ross McCormack was fit, he was taking all the free-kicks and was brilliant at it, but Diouf’s delivery is just as good. We’re still a threat from
set-pieces with him there.

He’s certainly as good as any player in this league. But what you have got to remember is that he’s played at the very highest level and has shown himself to be a top-class footballer.

I know he has had his problems off the pitch – and sometimes, on it – but as a player, he’s conducted himself terrifically well since he’s come to Leeds.

He also has a great rapport with the Leeds fans and you wouldn’t have imagined that happening when we signed him.

What has turned the fans around is his sheer talent and ability and the fact he’s working hard. He’s such an effective player.

You get the impression that if any of the Leeds United players get the ball and Diouf is in the vicinity, they will just knock it to him. We saw that against Everton and Forest and now Bristol.

With our second half on Saturday, it was Diouf who won the free-kick on the halfway line, remember. He is playing very, very well.

That would be Robin Van Persie.

Agree with all your points. He has been far better than I ever hoped so far, and against Everton he was absolute quality. Hope we can get him tied down for the rest of the season soon.

It's not my words, copy paste job from YEP. Warnock is very confident of getting him on for the rest of the season at least, so that's good news.

Ah right, just noticed the 'Click here to register...' But yeah it seems as though both parties are very keen on him staying and I doubt wages are going to be an issue, even if Bates is still here for a while.

Anyone know if a company makes a Diouf cuddly toy. I would kill to have one to snuggle when I go to sleep.

Sky Sports understands Leeds United ace El Hadji Diouf is set for discussions over a new contract at the club later this week.

Diouf has been a revelation at Elland Road this season since his arrival on a free transfer in the summer.

The Senegal international is currently on a short-term deal at Leeds which expires in January and his form has not gone unnoticed by rival clubs.

Diouf has scored three goals for Leeds and turned in a man-of-the-match display in Leeds' 2-1 win over high-flying Everton in the Capital One Cup last week.

Leeds are looking to tie down the former Liverpool and Bolton man to a new deal and the player's agent, Willie McKay, admits Diouf would be happy to sign a long-term contract if the terms are right.

"I am meeting Neil Warnock to discuss a new deal for El Hadji as his current contract expires in January," McKay told skysports.com.

"I believe El Hadji has shown he is the best player in the Championship and the interest in him has been amazing.

"I have been contacted by two Premier League clubs who have asked about his situation in January.

"I know El Hadji wants to stay at Leeds and as he loves it there and wants to help them get promotion."

McKay added: "The manager took a gamble to sign El Hadji and he signed for Leeds not for the money, but for the manager because he is one of the lowest paid players at the club.

"The deal he is on is a tenth of the deal he was previously on and I think he has proved to the Leeds fans he is committed and he has worked harder than ever before.

"I know the manager is desperate to keep him and El Hadji is desperate to stay, but this could be El Hadji's last contract and it has to be right.

"El Hadji is happy to sign a long-term contract for two or three years, but the terms have to be right."

YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE DIOUF

http://rightinthegarykellys.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/You-Cant-Handle-the-Diouf.jpg

Less than six months ago we were ripping him to pieces for his part in the infamous tunnelbust up at the end of Neil Warnock’s first game in (semi) charge of LUFC. Today, we look back on a game in which he not only enhanced his growing reputation amongst Whites fans, but he also had the privilege of wearing the captains arm band.

What the hell has happened? Quite simply, Diouf can play. His agent this week described him as the best player in the Championship. A claim that would have seemed laughable just weeks ago, now carries some credence. Can you think of anyone currently having more influence on games? Thomas Ince started brightly at Blackpool, but lacks experience.Charlie Austin is scoring goals for fun, but is just that – a goal scorer.

In Diouf, we have someone who has undoubted quality in several areas. As the Bristol City game proved, he can score goals. Both finishes were worthy of a top class striker. In the Forest and Bolton games he was providing the assists. And in the Everton game, the ball just stuck to his feet; I swear you could see the bit of string at one point. It was mesmerising to watch – he was holding off 3 Premier League players, had nowhere to go, and yet still found a white shirt. Diouf gives us something we have not had in many years. A true outlet. I have never seen anyone hold up the ball as well as he can. The pressure it takes off the rest of the team is huge. And does he ever waste possession?

Ok, tracking back and tackling may not be his strong point, but moving him inside and playing Tonge and Byram wide should solve that. And if we do move him back to the wing, don’t be surprised if NW helps him improve that aspect too…

As seems inevitable as soon as one of our players puts in a string of decent performances, there is rumour of Premier League interest. With his agent making noises about Diouf looking for a 2 or 3 year contract, how should we play this? From the evidence we’ve seen so far, this is not about cash. Diouf is one of our lowest paid players, and could have earned far, far more on foreign shores. There’s no reason to think Premier League money would tempt him away, as he craves a stage to perform on more than more millions in the bank at this stage of his career. If we play this right, and invest in players capable of helping El Hadji take us back to the Premier League in January, then there’s every possibility we could secure him on a longer term deal.

But what of the famous temper? And what of the “sewer rat” reputation? As far as I’m concerned, none of his “crimes” occurred in a Leeds shirt. When I see how much effort he puts into games, how much he enjoys our success, and how much help he gives to the younger players, I can’t help but hope that he sticks around. The biggest compliment I can pay him is that six months ago, this would have been the last article on earth I would have imagined myself writing. El Hadji Diouf – he’s Leeds, and he knows he is.
