This file will need to be re-applied if/when official patches/updates are released to ensure full compatibility. This is due to the fact that some files which are removed when installing this file are automatically re-installed by Steam when official patches come out.
Some of these changes, ESPECIALLY THE CLUB NAMES, may not apply in the Beta, FM Touch or in existing save-games. There's a workaround for that in the first post.
The sortitoutsi real names fix changes the instances of fake names in Football Manager 2018 to the proper, real life names for awards, cities, stadiums and competitions, in cases where the actual name is not licensed. It will also fix the fact that the German and Japanese National teams don't call up real players. The latter are fully save-game compatible.
There is also a club name changes file, which changes the names of clubs in a way which ensures that any nicknames entered in the default database are retained. This file includes the proper names for German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and French clubs to circumvent licensing restrictions. Due to licensing reasons, the number of Ajax non-playing staff is quite small and this file contains a fix to restore them. It also adds real-life media and journalists, encompassing most major footballing nations and continents. Finally, it includes a small file which corrects the 3-Letter competition names to correspond with any changes made in the lnc files. For all the files in this paragraph to work, however, you will need to start a new game.

from within the editor data folder as they are no longer needed. Retaining them will see a duplicate complement for Ajax staff members.
To make sure the files have been applied correctly, go to the Champions Cup and EURO Vase in your saved game, and they should be renamed to Champions League and Europa League respectively. If you are in the middle of a save-game, German national teams will be populated in the next instance that players are called up, and not instantly. The Japanese national team will be populated along the same lines too, but any Japan-based players are not in the official database and need a third-party add-on to be created and added.

You can get to the Library folder by simply selecting Go from the top bar and holding "alt" key - The Library folder suddenly appears on the drop down
For Mac Lion users, the Library folder will be hidden. Use this link to find out how to show it.
For those struggling to find the Steam and Steam Apps folder etc using Mac with the new OS High Sierra, this link below shows how you can unhide your Library folder which will then let you find the other folders.

No problem. The German national team squad features the real-world players, but the competition names and club names are still incorrect (Premier Division as opposed Premier League, Champions Cup as opposed to Champions League, Real San Sebastian as opposed to Real Sociedad etc.).
mons
Ah, I see.
The club name changes issue has been exhaustively discussed ( ), but the competition name changes should have changed nonetheless. Hmm, I still think it's an issue with the installation folder not being the correct one. Can I see the full path in a screenshot of the location they're in? If installed correctly, you needed to delete 2 folders named all and greek beforehand.
Maleven
I re-installed of my own accord and the competition names are now correct, but the club names still aren't. Is there a way around that or will it have to wait until the full release?
mons
Please read the first post (and around three-quarters of the other posts in this thread) on why a workaround is needed for club name changes and the very simple steps to put it in place
Maleven
Hahaha yep, sorry, went back to the first post, followed those steps, re-started, and it's fixed.
Thanks.

Read the first post for a workaround for this beta version.

I’ve started my first FM 18 game and there’s a major issue with players + stuff etc surnames. (Screenshot in link below) Impossible to differentiate between players and find them. Clicking into a players full profile also doesn’t show the surname.
I’ve tried exiting the game, clearing the cache and starting a new game but the issue is still there.
Any ideas of how to fix this?

VP.
Try changing skins.

That's absolutely bizarre. This file does not change more than 2/3 names and I severely doubt if it could be the reason behind your issue. I'd raise it on the official forums as a bug tbh, because that's what it looks like
Headshothitman
Just to make more realistic like you did a couple of FM's ago:
Champions League > Change background Colour to Deep Dark Blue & White Font
Europa League > Change Background Colour to Orange/Yellow & Dark Red font
mons
That's something which can only be done through editor data files which aren't supported in the beta version of FM. The file is already finalised at my end and will be available with v1.0 of the file, which barring any unexpected disasters should be released on the day the full game is released...

Some of them will be changed in the next version, while I'm not sure the others can be changed tbh. All these changes will be save-game compatible at least

I'm using the researcher's beta and not the full game beta, so I wouldn't have the exact folder structure for the new update. Can you give me a quick screenshot of the database/db folder strcuture? Perhaps they've added a 1801 folder there too...
Bothan Spy
mons
Hmm, that's strange. Can you mention a specific part which isn't working with the new update? German national team? European competition names? Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, German, French, Brazilian club names?
P.S. Ideally accompanied with screenshots in case I can notice any anomalies...
Bothan Spy
id be curious to know if anyone else is having this issue as the patch took ages to download for me last night which was unusual.
Bothan Spy
mons
Re the patch taking ages to download, it's apparently a Steam issue and one which should be solved later this evening.
Re the Japanese and German name issues, did you apply the patch after starting a new game? If yes, then you need to wait for the next call-up for the real players to be appear in the squad.
At least some of the files are in the right place then.
Bothan Spy
I applied your update again to the files stated after the the game patched and then started a new game but no deal.
Is everyone else having this issue or is it just me??
mons
Have you read the installation instructions and the workaround in the main post?

Their fix has worked! In all areas, clubs, comps, national teams...
Sorry mate

Maleven
If I want to continue a save that I've started using the Beta after the full release, will I be able to restore the corrections to competition and club names and the German (and other?) national teams by simply re-installing the fix as in the first instance?
I ask because, to the best of my recollection, that didn't work in the past.
(Also because, having done a thorough recce of the transfer market and having started to get to grips with the match engine, I'm itching to get going properly!)
Thanks
