This file will need to be re-applied if/when official patches/updates are released to ensure full compatibility. This is due to the fact that some files which are removed when installing this file are automatically re-installed by Steam when official patches come out.
Some of these changes, ESPECIALLY THE CLUB NAMES, may not apply in the Beta, FM Touch or in existing save-games. There's a workaround for that in the first post.
The sortitoutsi real names fix changes the instances of fake names in Football Manager 2018 to the proper, real life names for awards, cities, stadiums and competitions, in cases where the actual name is not licensed. It will also fix the fact that the German and Japanese National teams don't call up real players. The latter are fully save-game compatible.
There is also a club name changes file, which changes the names of clubs in a way which ensures that any nicknames entered in the default database are retained. This file includes the proper names for German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian and French clubs to circumvent licensing restrictions. Due to licensing reasons, the number of Ajax non-playing staff is quite small and this file contains a fix to restore them. It also adds real-life media and journalists, encompassing most major footballing nations and continents. Finally, it includes a small file which corrects the 3-Letter competition names to correspond with any changes made in the lnc files. For all the files in this paragraph to work, however, you will need to start a new game.

from within the editor data folder as they are no longer needed. Retaining them will see a duplicate complement for Ajax staff members.
To make sure the files have been applied correctly, go to the Champions Cup and EURO Vase in your saved game, and they should be renamed to Champions League and Europa League respectively. If you are in the middle of a save-game, German national teams will be populated in the next instance that players are called up, and not instantly. The Japanese national team will be populated along the same lines too, but any Japan-based players are not in the official database and need a third-party add-on to be created and added.
Club names are only changed if you apply the editor data files before starting a new game. For a workaround if you've already started a new save-game, then please read the opening post of this thread.

Can you upload screenshots of your edt and lnc folders? I don't think you've installed the files right in there...
It's the same process as every year, I really don't understand how people manage to get so confused.
Ipswich Knights
It does not work if you select a team from the intial career setup page. think you should add that to the first post its kind of an important thing..
PS i am not getting confused. I have done everything as you said and i always get your good updates too work so please do not assume that i had made a mistake.
I think letting people know that you need to ignore the intial team select summary fake names is kind of a big deal as people dont think its been applied correctly to the game .
P P S It is going good now no iddea why the intial team select page dont work but if u go in and chose the option select a team later then add the league it has the correct bundesliga narration and teams
SirTAVARES
the names are correct in the files but not in-game (for me)
edit wrong names for me:
SLB
SLB B
FCP
FCP B
SCP (One idea to make it different from Sporting Gijon is to edit this one to Sporting CP, and B Squad also)
Sporting (POR) B
Real Hispalis
Real San Sebastian
Vigo? (shouldn't be Celta?)

I found few team names requiring correction for the full version fix of FM18 so to help you out I listed them below and will edit in more as (and if) I happen to come across any.
(Just to be clear, these incorrect names were present despite my correctly installing the BETA real names & German national team fix ahead of starting a new career with advanced setup for BETA FM18.)
German clubs:
id 920 Gelsenkirchen ----> Schalke 04
id 121182 Berlin-Köpenick Dammfeld ---> Union Berlin
id 908 BMG -----> Borussia Mönchengladbach
id 91013388 RB -----> RB Leipzig
id 948 Bremen ------> Werder Bremen
Sir TAVARES already listed incorrect the Portuguese and Spanish team names, so to quote him:
"SLB
SLB B
FCP
FCP B
SCP (One idea to make it different from Sporting Gijon is to edit this one to Sporting CP, and B Squad also)
Sporting (POR) B
Real Hispalis
Real San Sebastian
Vigo? (shouldn't be Celta?)"
Thanks!

Do you think you would be able to fix the Ajax Staff, which has been excluded because of licence-issues?
And, as always, I will look forward to your fix for the full game.
PinkHoverboard
Did you follow the instructions in the first post?

Hi!
Yes, I did. I Applied the fix before started a new career and everything seemed to be fine - apart from these few club names that I've encountered.
It doesn't currently matter to me anyway. I can live with it as I play my beta save and I'll be starting a bigger save later on when the full game is released and those other fixes can be applied too (in the editor data -folder).
I only mentioned the wrong club names to help the maker of the fix, Mons, check that those names are in fact correct when they get into the process of creating the next version of the fix.

i have, i followed it and it has not changed a thing. clubs still show up wrong

It does work, there's just that page where they're not displayed right but they work perfectly fine elsewhere. May be a UI bug in FM itself.
People who think it hasn't been applied correctly are being too hasty and it's not really an issue as far as I'm concerned. Besides (a) this is a beta version of this file for the beta version of this game, so some things may not be 100% and (b) this is a workaround and using the eventual editor data files removes this issue entirely.
They all work perfectly fine if you apply the workaround in the first post.
It's Parma Calcio 1913, and what's wrong with it? It's the name used on their official website, after all...
I'm not aware there's an issue with the Ajax staff. What's the matter there please and what needs to be corrected?
Thanks for pointing this out, I wasn't aware of it.
Having checked, I'll be using the below names:
"COMP_LONG_NAME_CHANGE" 102421 "Superliga Quilmes Clásica" ""
"COMP_SHORT_NAME_CHANGE" 102421 "Superliga Argentina" ""
Any objection to that?
I'm sorry gents, but both of you haven't applied it right.

Here is an image from SIs official bug reporting area (https://community.sigames.com/topic/411591-holland-official-data-issues/):
It does not seem like they are going to do something about it :/
mons
Hmm, if that's the case, then somebody needs to create a file to copy the details and attributes of the these staff members using the details visible on the editor from the FM17 database.
I'm afraid I don't have the time to do that. But if somebody creates it, then I'd very happily include it in a version of this file
lakeshowsrt
I did the right things but it still looks like "San Sebastian,Gelsenkirchen..."
mons
Can you upload yours?
lakeshowsrt
mons
There needs to be a " before CLUB_
i.e."CLUB_LONG_NAME_CHANGE"
It's not there in your file, so the game is ignoring everything. You need to follow the steps in the first post exactly.
Tommy Hughes
(I'm honestly not being sarcastic, despite what my findings and questions below might suggest. I really appreciate you taking the time to work on the fix and also doing it so fast after the release of each new FM. This patch is a desperately needed and widely loved one and I only wrote this comment to both, help you make the fix better and lessen your amount of work by pointing out my own findings.)
Here's the thing: I looked into your fixed file "City, Club and Stadium Names.lnc" that I had downloaded from this comment section's link and, among the other fixed files, (correctly) installed into my Football Manager 18\data\database\1800\lnc\ -folder. I soon found the reason some Spanish clubs for example were did not have a proper name despite the fix being applied prior to starting a new career. This is an short section of the contents of the fix file:
# Spain
"CLUB_SHORT_NAME_CHANGE" 1687 "Atlético Madrid" "Portuguese"
"CLUB_SHORT_NAME_CHANGE" 1664 "Atlético Bilbao" "Portuguese"
"CLUB_SHORT_NAME_CHANGE" 1759 "Sevilha" "Portuguese"
#"CLUB_LONG_NAME_CHANGE" 1688 "D. Alavés SAD" ""
#"CLUB_LONG_NAME_CHANGE" 1664 "Athletic Club" ""
#"CLUB_SHORT_NAME_CHANGE" 1664 "Athletic" ""
#"CLUB_LONG_NAME_CHANGE" 1687 "C. Atlético de Madrid SAD" ""
#"CLUB_SHORT_NAME_CHANGE" 1687 "Atlético" ""
etc.--->
So, for some reason a large portion of the fixed club names, long and short ones alike, have been disabled in the fix file by adding a hashtag at the beginning of the line in question, thus causing the game to ignore the line and not fix the name. That's why I still had some wrong club names after applying the fix and a new career.
Also, I did not edit the fix file myself, just opened it and saw it being this way. Do you know any reason why a formidable portions of your fix "City, Club and Stadium Names.lnc" would have the disabling # attached while some rows are enabled (do not have the #)?
Of course I can always manually remove the hashtags in notepad, but I'm just curious why they're there in the first place...
mons
I therefore include all the changes of the editor data file in the lnc file so that people who have already started a new game may nonetheless enjoy the benefit of those changes by applying the workaround in the first post while at the same time allowing others to use the file as intended.
iirc, the changes not hashtagged in the lnc file are mostly minor club changes and ones who don't have nicknames and therefore changes in this method aren't really needed in the editor as well.
Ipswich Knights
Hasty or not its the first page people see and the one i was testing it on.
At least i know going forward now
Maleven
Thanks. I think that may be because of the way I took the screenshot.
The full path reads as follows:
This PC > OS (C: ) > Program Files (x86) > Steam > steamapps > common > Football Manager 2018 > data > database > db > Inc
mons
Looks fine. Can you remind me what your issue was exactly please? Got a bit lost with all the multi-quoting
Makitos
Excelente, thax!
Tommy Hughes
Okay, my bad. My false understanding was that the .lnc file would not remove nicknames as long as it was applied prior to staring a new career and that's what confused me.
thanks for the explanation!
mons
Hmmm, I'll look to perhaps update and simplify the wording to make it more clear
