This file will need to be re-applied if/when official patches/updates are released to ensure full compatibility. This is due to the fact that some files which are removed when installing this file are automatically re-installed by Steam when official patches come out.

Some of these changes, ESPECIALLY THE CLUB NAMES, do NOT apply in FM Touch or in existing save-games. There's a workaround for that in the first post.

The sortitoutsi real names fix changes the instances of fake names in Football Manager 2020 to the proper, real life names for awards, cities, stadiums and competitions, in cases where the actual name is not licensed, such as Champions League, Europa League and Premier League displaying instead of EURO Cup, EURO Vase and Premier Division respectively. It will also fix the fact that the German and Japanese National teams don't call up real players and that the Bayern Munich and Borussia Mönchengladbach managers have fake names. These are all fully save-game compatible.

There is also a club name changes file, which changes the names of clubs in a way which ensures that any nicknames entered in the default database are retained. This file includes the proper names for Brazilian, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian (including Juventus) and French clubs to circumvent licensing restrictions. It also adds real-life media and journalists, encompassing most major footballing nations and continents. Brazilian clubs' text colours are also changed through an editor data file. Finally, it includes a small file which corrects the 3-Letter competition names to correspond with any changes made in the lnc files. For all the files in this paragraph to work, however, you will need to start a new game.

Follow the below instructions to install this version of this file

STEP 1.
OPEN
Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Football Manager 2020\data\database\db\2000

Notes:

depending on your set up.

Mac
OPEN

You can find these folders by clicking, in the Finder, the Go menu in the menu bar, then choose Go to Folder and type the folder path name (obviously inserting your username), then click Go.

You can get to the Library folder by simply selecting Go from the top bar and holding "alt" key - The Library folder suddenly appears on the drop down

For Mac Lion users, the Library folder will be hidden. Use this link to find out how to show it.

For those struggling to find the Steam and Steam Apps folder etc using Mac with the new OS High Sierra, this link below shows how you can unhide your Library folder which will then let you find the other folders.

Slightly more detail in this post

STEP 2:
COPY the dbc, edt and lnc folders from the downloaded pack

STEP 3:
PASTE them into each of your respective folders mentioned in step 1.

These are what the respective folder structures should look like in the 2040 folder:

dbc: https://i.imgur.com/je40Ajx.png
dbc/permanent: https://i.imgur.com/1FH8ABp.png
edt/permanent: https://i.imgur.com/aat5BqX.png
lnc: https://i.imgur.com/a87Z77C.png

STEP 4:
COPY the 8 files located in the EDITOR DATA FILES folder in the downloaded pack

STEP 5
PASTE to
\Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2020\editor data

\Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2020\\GAMEPASS\editor data

Users/YOUR Mac USERNAME/Library/Application Support/Sports Interactive
By default this folder is hidden, so to access you need to do as follows:

Open Finder
Click ‘Go’ from the menubar
Press and hold down the ‘Option’ (Alt) key
This will bring up the ‘Library’, click to enter then go to ‘Application Support’ -> ‘Sports Interactive’ -> ‘Football Manager 2020’

This should be what your editor data folder looks like now. There may initially be a config.xml file in this folder and it can be safely overwritten; it is generated by FM every time the game starts.

To make sure the files have been applied correctly, go to the Champions Cup and EURO Vase in your saved game, and they should be renamed to Champions League and Europa League respectively. If you are in the middle of a save-game, Japanese national teams will be populated in the next instance that players are called up, and not immediately. Do keep in mind that this file does not add Japan-based players, who are not in the official database and will need a third-party add-on to be created and added.

Club names are only changed if you apply the editor data files before starting a new game. For a workaround if you've already started a new save-game, then please read the opening post of this thread.

I was wondering the same thing. I’m having the same issue. I was going to try adjusting the 2001 map as well. If you’re able to before me, please let me know how it goes. Thanks.

Works for me when I replace the 2001 folders as well - Champions League etc is all showing correctly now.

Yes that was the first thing that worked for me
Do we have to start a new game after downloading this file(i think so). Will this be the case in the future ?
Lets say i keep on playing my beta save in the next months, will i have problem after SI releases new version(s) or patches ?

This was no problem before.

Yes I believe you will need to start a new save for it to work fully.

No patches won't effect a current save but you will need to reapply the fix if starting a new game after a patch update.

It may be hard coded in but if not you'll still have to probably wait until the full release to use the editor I'm afraid.

Apologies for not being able to answer all the queries earlier - was away from my PC and with limited internet connectivity to boot all yesterday evening.

I've edited the main post and the installation instructions in the file to reflect the fact that there is also a 2001 folder in the game's installation path and to make it (hopefully) more clear that the installation folder for editor data on Macs is different than in previous years. I also added a MEGA mirror. The files themselves have remained unchanged.

I'll now go through the questions and see which ones still need answering

Is there any way to circumvent the missing nicknames problem, or to use the editor data files in the beta? I always found this to be very annoying...

You should be able to use the editor data files in the beta But there is no other way to circumvent the missing nicknames issue, I'm afraid.

@Uwe Seeler @TopToffee I hope you've managed to sort your Mac issue by now, but if not there are specific installation instruction in the main post for Macs

Done. Added a MEGA mirror

Has anyone managed to get Juventus' name to change? All the rest seem to be working ok apart from them.....

If you apply this download correctly before starting a new game (i.e. dbc/permanent folder in 2000 AND 2001), then Juventus' club name and kit and titlebar colours should be displayed correctly, similar to how it looks in one of the screenshots

Yes that was the first thing that worked for me

Adding to what VP correctly said, yes you need to start a new game after downloading this file but no you should be able to proceed normally with your save game when SI release new versions/patches. However, updates/patches sometimes recreate licensing-related files which this download deletes, so it is recommended that you download and apply this file again when SI release new versions/patches. In this manner, you would also get any changes/edits included in this download since your previous download, which would by and large be save-game compatible anyway

Thank You

This is already in the Stadiums lnc file, so I can't understand why it's not working. I'll include a fix in the next version of the file, but it may well be not save-game compatible.

I also translated the nations into German.

edit: Fixed China Long and Short Name.

Thanks for this - I'll see what changes were made and add them accordingly.

For future reference, it would be helpful if you could just send the changes rather than the whole file to save me a bit of time having to go through it all

Juventus U-23 still have short name Zebra-U23

Thanks - will change it for the next version

Does this remove transfer embargo of Chelsea? I have been trying to remove it but the edt files don't seem to do anything and i can't remove it.

Nope, as VP said, that's got nothing to do with the nature of this file

Yeah just want to remove it Would you know how to?

I've opened the transfer_embargo file with Notepad, and Chelsea's isn't in there. This would seem to indicate that it's hard-coded in the data, which means that you wouldn't be able to remove it until the pre-game editor is available once the game is released.

Once I've collected enough changes to justify releasing one. Heaven help me if I had to release a new version for every couple of changes If nothing major crops up, I'll probably release one at some point this weekend.

I assume it's safe to download? I remember some people talked about malware last year.

If the file contained malware, do you think I'd break down in fits of tears and admit to my deception at this stage?

Some people did mention last year that their anti-virus flagged this file as malware, but it's a case of false positive. Tends to happen when a file is quite new.

Good point, I'll edit the text in the main post to reflect it.

You just download and install the files. And you're ready to go
