It's a £3 return for the buses in Brighton.

That's quite pricey isn't it?

Meh, I suppose. Seems pricey to me but I'm a cheap-ass student.

I shouldn't complain because two hours work a fortnight pays for my bus fare.

In saying that I remember when it cost me like $1.80 to get a return ticket.

So is that return all day??

My ticket is one way into the City, so it would cost me over $13 for a return, which is quite crazy for public transport.

From my house into the center (20 minute journey without significant traffic) it would be 4 quid return, so you just buy a day ticket as its the same and you get unlimited travel for that day.

£4.50 up here, same situation as above. It's sometimes cheaper to get a daysaver than a single, so stupid.

First bus? They are so shit, if they ran on time, I'd almost be ok about their extortion.

I remember when I used to get the bus to the pictures when I was about 14, it was like 60p for a child. Now if I was to take the same route it's £2...

Just checked the bus fares on the translink website. One way paper ticket is $6.70 for three zones, which is robbery. Lucky I've got a go card which if I've used on off peak times (between 9am - 3:30pm and after 7pm) then it's half price!! Absolutely terrible for tourists tbh having to pay full whack every trip!!

Used to be £5 for me to get to Newcastle and back when I had college there, which was a 60 mile round trip.

It's £5.50 for me to go to town on a return, which is about ten miles away and takes less than 20 minutes. Fuck Hampshire. Fuck Stagecoach and bus privatisation.

Not a clue how much a bus is round here. Normal people own cars.

I can't drive due to eyesight issues and I'm not a cretin who buys a car I can't afford, unlike many people I know.

I quite like FirstBus. They're often not on time but where I stay that doesn't really matter as there's a lot of services. It's £4.50 for an all day, or £15.50 for an all week (£11 if you're U20 or a student) - so £11 for unlimited travel around Glasgow and surrounding areas for a week is pretty decent value.

£6.70 for a return/day ticket. About 12 miles into Newcastle.

Seems common sense to me to make buses to be free/very cheap to reduce congestion and pollution. Make buses a viable alternative to cars, rather than just for people who can't afford cars.

But that means that local councils will have to further their subsidies for the bus companies, or take them over completely, which obviously costs money. They'd have to increase fees elsewhere, or put council tax up, and the car-drivers, or rich households in the nice parts of town, will object, saying that they don't use public transport, thus they shouldn't have to pay for other people's transport. It's what happened to 'Fare's Fair'.

What I used to do was walk to a bus stop further along, about a ten minute walk, because it was £1 cheaper to catch the bus from there to town than from the bus stop down the road from me. Little bit risky though, because you've got to cross a main road and occasionally the bus wouldn't stop there because it's not really in the driver's eye-line.
