Start your new career and then find his Unique ID. To do so make sure the screen ID tickbox in the below screenshot is ticked, and you'll find his UID in the titlebar:
Then follow the instructions in this post, to assign a photo (which must be in png format) to the player.

Players created in custom databases have a random UID in-game, not the one displayed in the pre-game data editor.

It will not necessarily be the same as the one s/he will have in the game, especially if you are running a number of other editor data files at the same time. The best way to know the right UID is to check it in-game. You can add graphics at any point, even after starting a new game, so that shouldn't be an issue

That’s really good to know. If you start a new game, will the player ID change? If so, does that mean I have to add the new player face again?

It could change and, then again, it may not. If it's the former, you'd need to change the config file with the new UID, yes.
