UEFA Champions League 2012 - 2013 Thread

Arsenal is the only side I really wanted to progress from England- and they have struck Bayern, and of course Bayern are indestructable (or thereabouts) atm, whilst Wenger needs to sort some things out. I do like Bayern (all German sides really), and wouldn't be too unhappy when they do come through (which they should).

Celtic-wise, I love them and wish they could go through, but Juve are too good for them.

My prediction:

Celtic - Juventus will be like that Simpsons episode---> 0-0.
Valancia - PSG : 1-2
Shakhtar - Dortmund: 3-0

Nah, they just know all the little tricks. It's not a foul till the ball is in play so if you watch the corners again they'll usually stop their grabbing as soon as the ball come in.

Edit: Lichtsteiner got a little carried away in the first half, but Hooper, Brown etc gave as good as they got.

Gutted with the result but sometimes you just come up against a side that will punish you at any given opportunity. We were the better side between the first two goals but Juventus defended well and we needed a bit more quality and a tad more luck. Disappointed but proud of our overall performance. We did exceptionally well to even get to this point.

Juve look so average. It's pretty worrying they're the top team in Italy.

Were Juventus not just sitting back, after their early goal? Rather than playing badly? I thought they looked happy to sit on their lead anyway.

Aye that was the gameplan, Vidal admitted as much, let Celtic have the ball and tire themselves out then pick them off when gaps started to open. Had Celtic scored first I daresay we'd have seen a very different Juve performance.

They sat back yeah, but they also gave Celtic some good chances, which they should have taken.

I wouldn't expect a team like Juve to sit back so much with just a 1-0 lead. Suppose it worked for Chelsea..

1-0 with the away goal. - Juventus probably wanted to kill the game and finish it in Italy, rather than get dragged into a battle or allow themselves to be counter attacked. Celtic did get a lot of half chances, maybe if Chiellini played they would have been tighter at the back. Is Caceres any good at CB? Thought he was more of a RB.

Celtic should have had 2 penalties tonight.

It was an odd game. Still not sure how we ended up losing that game 3-0 considering we were the dominant team for 60-70 minutes. Barcelona caused us far more trouble when we beat them 2-1, but perhaps the difference was that we were backs against the wall for 90 minutes against them, meaning the defense had to be alert the whole time, but due to our good play tonight Juventus rarely attacked and when they did the defense wasn't switched on enough. Against a side as good as them, they're going to punish you.

We should have had at least one penalty, but that's football I guess. We needed a really good result to have any chance but unfortunately our mistakes cost us.

I was pretty pissed off at the game as the referee ruined the whole thing.

Their not breaking any rules so I wouldn't say it's cheating, but you're never going to get a fair play award acting like that at corners!

As I said above, Lichtsteiner got a bit carried away but the Celtic players gave as good as they got. After the first Lichy/Hooper scuffle the ref should have set the limit on what he'd allow before a corner, he never did and they went right back to it. Only a bit later did he start flashing cards despite letting them get away with the same stuff previously.
