This is the match engine file modified for reality and adding much more interest in fm.

It changes everything in match, such as passing, moving, attacking, defending, 1 on 1, kill passing, buildup, one two passing, pressing, attacking moving, attacking switching, defending switching and so on. You won't see dumb and stupid playing anymore that all of FM series always had. All of moving and playing will be realistic or understandable at least.

All tactics can be played much better in match as real football playing or as you have imagined what you wanna watch in matches, which you wanted to see from this game and didn't know even this could be done in FM.
If you are football fan, it’s wasting of life not using this. With this one, I assure you don’t need to buy next series of Football Manager before SI done for much far better AI and match engine.

Now that is the question indeed. What are the improvements?

Well, for sure just the enjoyment of watching games now. Either in Comprehensive or full, is big change to me, as I normally would do Key highlights only. I actually enjoy watching the games now. That is probably the biggest improvement.

But the bigger question is, what does it change? I think we need @Billgates to answer that in more details. But from the half season I have played the past 24 hours or so, am I quite sure that it changes quite a lot also outside of the physical engine, or how it looks. Like Billgates wrote in the description should it change a multipile of things.

If I where to list the most impactful things I have noticed in my low League save, is it as following:

1. Heading. Possibly well connected with number two on the list, that it seems players with good heading + jumping/strength are just doing better overall in the lower leauges.

2. Physical numbers. At least in lower leauges, they seem more potent. When someone with high pace or agility is running at someone, they really go past slower players quickly.

3. Passing & more realistic ball physics. It is hard to explain this one, but you will notice it quickly.

4. Tackles & physical contact. Now don't get me wrong, it is not perfect, but it is waaay better then before. It just looks like collision a lot more, and you will see the defenders actually have some motions and movement that is more correct for a defender to have.

5. Tactics. I'm currently using a tactic that I have used for many years, and only have tweaked a little. This tactic is still working, but the players seems to do deferent bits then on the normal engine (proberbly acting more precise, to the tactical instructions). This is one of the things that will take longer to get an understanding of, and might just be a side effect to some of the other changes. But I would for sure say, there is a change in how players understand the tactic or behave in the tactic you set.

6. Traits. Again, this could also just be other changes fault, but a few of my players with special traits, such as knock ball past opponent or try to lob the keeper, seems to do it, possibly more, and also surly looks deferent then normal, in the physics.

7. Corners & Throws. Alright, this might actually be down to me playing lower leauges with players making more mistakes then in the normal engine, and therefor giving more corners and throws away duo to poor passes, crossings etc etc. But that is not all, specially the corners have I noticed that players act more correct. I think that is my point 1 and 2, coming into action here. Players just head better, defend better, and overall act better in a stationary situation I feel.

This is what I have noticed. But maybe @Billgates can enlighten us, a little more on how this all exactly works.

Update after 1 full season:

Changes & Improvements

Animations & physical engine - Positive
  • General movement of players is far better in possession.
  • The ball is closer to the player's feet. And he will have a more natural touch with it.
  • Their movement, when passing, crossing, dripling, etc. Correspond better with reality then the normal engine.
  • Defensive players movement, and body language is improved, tackling, sliding, headers in front of goal, is all better.
  • Animation of the body when they fall, either too tackles, slides or the goalkeeper jumping, all looks more natural. Seemingly with more animated patterns.
  • Goalkeepers dive more fluently and generally connect better with the ball when they save, punch or block.
  • Tricks and skills. By that I mean improved, or possibly new animations, such as jumping over the goalkeeper, knocking the ball past the opponent, even taking the ball down with the chest, is more fluent. As an example, did my striker on a corner where he was attacking from the edge of the box, bow down fluently to head the ball when he was connecting with it. Another one, is a midfielder taking down a crossing with his chest, and in one motion hit it on his knee and directly kick it with his left boot pretty high in the air (Zidane like was my thought when I saw it.) I’m pretty sure this is SI coded, but the animations are upgraded or new.
Animations - physical engine - Negative:
  • You will still see two players press the same ball holder. Tactical this is illogical, and something that hasn't changed from the normal engine.
  • Celebrations and situational feelings after being fouled, or being offside, has not changed.
  • Some of the odd celebration, where they walk like a duck or penguin after scoring, is still happening.
  • No new animations to crowds.
The numbers, the traits, the roles & the tactics - Positive:
  • When a 30 year old centre back with 15 in strength, comes up against a 167cm 18 old striker, the youngster will be punished in stationary situations such as corners, free kicks, and throw ins. But that youngster might have 15 pace, and 13 dribbling and just wickle around that old defender in open game. You will more clearly notice this, down to the animation & physical engine changes. This is not a direct change, but something that feels like it.
  • Most traits seem more used, and more unique in the engine and so far, they also seem to have a bigger impact in the games. If you have a technical good striker with (trying to lob the keeper) then expect him to do this more often in the new engine.
  • Player roles have undergone major changes. Or at least just how well the players understand them. Even in lower leagues, they will stick more strictly to their roles and instructions. And again you will notice this pretty fast, if you are using a well known tactic and team.
  • Tactics … oh boy. Well, since everything is changed, so is your tactic and how the players react to it. you need to learn a new ABC, the cookie cutter is gone.
The numbers, the traits, the roles & the tactics - Negative:
  • I have no confirmation about changes to the numbers, and their impact on players, same goes with traits. It could all be animated, and just look better on the pitch. Tho, even if there are no changes, it still feels better, and the animations will give you more information and enjoyment watching games.
  • We have no idea how much all this will influence the ability to set tactics, set pieces, roles or instructions. So far, is it only positive to experience something new. But time will tell how much the new engine will handicap us as tactical managers, or just give us more options.
MISC - Positive & negative
  • Players make more mistakes (lower leagues.) I see this as a positive. You will see more blocks and parried balls go out to throw ins and corners. Same with header, where two people are fighting for it, but also better headers when people are jumping up to head a ball on their own and more logical pathing. 20-30% more mistakes from my players, is a good estimate. I would not directly call them mistakes, as much as they are just things that happen the same amount, in real games too. But the game sees them as mistakes non the less.
  • No nonsense defender, are truly no nonsense. They kick that ball out of the park, with the slightest risk around them. I think it needs tweaking.
  • The ball interacts with the players in a different way. Much like you will see more blocks and parries, will you also see players in close contact have the ball bouncing between them sometimes (sort of in a power struggle, or more random benefactor,) before one of them ends up with the longest straw, or just try and hits it, with a new bouch where it ends up at a third players feet or out for a throw.
  • This is not FIFA or PES. We can dream all we like, it aint gonna happen. But this mod goes a long way with realisme for addicted FM nerds.
  • I’m yet to see a nutmeg or overhead kick. I will be disappointed when it happens, should never happen in Welsh 4th best division or Norwigian 3rd division.
I'm going to switch over to a ESL team for a season or 2, to see how this plays out, with top class players. Hopefully Is there bigger difference between Norwegian or Welsh lower leauges to ESL, then in the normal engine. I'll be back, with more updates.

As I've posted on FM Scout today this is by far the best mod I've ever seen for Football Manager and is a truly astonishing & fantastic piece of work. The ME now feels like it should, it flows & its far far more watchable. The biggest compliment I can pay it is to say it feels like FM12's stunning ME.

Thank you very much.

Changes & Improvements update 2 “Tottenham save”

What would Mourinho do? I asked myself. He would play a multitude of formations throughout the season, and he would change the shape and responsibilities in the games. So, I went into this save, unlike my normal way of playing, where I would keep the overall tactic the same, throughout games, but that was changed for this save. I did this for two reasons, to see how well the players react to a new shape, roles, tactics, and how it would change the games in the new match engine.

Comparison to lower league save - Positive
  • The first thing I noticed was fewer (real) mistakes. As you would expect from players with better passings, crossings, technique etc etc. This is not the engine, but the game when you watch it, flows differently then in my lower league save be course of it.
  • The skill moves, such as Ndombele turning around himself, with the ball close at his feet, a real signature move, did he use 2-4 times a game. Which I really liked to see, but again, this got nothing to do with the new engine, but him doing it in the engine, looks so much better, and the animation is more fluent, and I didn’t see this movement in the lower league (maybe one time in a whole season.)
  • In general, I saw players do what they should do, and as they do in real life. Sissoko running up and down that midfield, Lamela tackling aggressively like a mad man, lo celso ding balls or run with it, Kane shooting from anywhere, and Son run into space. Now, I might just be the next Mourinho, but I have played with Tottenham saves plenty of times before, and I have never had this sort of relesime. Mostly down to the new animations & more strict roles I guess, and not my Mourinhoisk skills.
Comparison to lower league save - Negative

  • I hoped for a bigger impact overall. The changes are there, but there should be a more noticeable change from Norwigan 4th division players, to the likes of Sonny and Kanes when watching the game.
Morinhoisk tactics

  • Just like I noticed in the lower league save, do players react faster and better to changes you make throughout the game. Whether this is the shape, mentality, roles or instructions. This is possibly the fluidity of the new animations, and movements of the players when watching the game, making me believe this is the case. Anyhow, big positive, and I’m sure others will notice this too, when they start digging into this on full match watching.
  • Roles and instructions are probably not different to the lower leagues, but they are more noticable in higher leagues, when you got players you watch week out and week in on SKY do stuff in the game, you didn’t see them do before. It’s not a new FM game, but their responsibilities when watching a full game, seems and feel more clear than in the normal engine.
  • I felt like a manager, like a Morinho changing the game and the outcome of it. Instead of sim for 60 minutes, making 2 subs, siming 20 more minutes, making the last sub, and hopefully winning the game, only seeing key highlights mostly. The game should be a manager game, not a siming game, where this mod helps you in the right direction to feel like a manager (if you let it.)
Stats & numbers - Negative & positive.
  • I noted down from 13 games at Tottenham the overall numbers per game from both teams. I then went back to my Norwagian 4th division save and found 13 games and compared it, here are the results of some important stats:
Premier league stats:
Throwins: 46.7
Corners: 18.4
Fouls: 21.2
Passing: 86.4%
Goals: 2.2

Norwegian 4th Division:
Throwins: 43.9
Corners: 21.5
Fouls 20.3
Passings: 62.9%
Goals: 1.7
  • My conclusion is, lower leagues stats are better than before, and more realistic. And the biggest leagues suffer from too many (block/parry) mistakes that the new engine brings. 18.4 average corners in premier league is just way above realisme to me, but +20 could happen and probably do in lower leagues.
  • On the other hand, passing seems to be the biggest difference. Also as expected, what you would see in real life. But in the normal engine you can easily have +80% in lower leagues. I think this will be much harder now, if at all possible. That said, my Norwagian team is not a tiki taka team, but their numbers were at least 10-15% higher in the normal engine. But again, this is not a bad thing. Division 4 players in Norway, should not have 85% passing completion ratio, but rather 60-75% as I see them have now.
  • I did feel that both Tottenham, and most opponents in premier league had a higher % passing game, then what I normally saw in my past saves, both this year and former FM games. 86.4% is a really high overall, when some of these numbers are with West Brom and Newcastle as opponents, with all due respect.
  • Some games, Tottenham had 93-94% completed passes, which I find too high(even with tiki taka tactic / killing the game), and I think this needs a little tweaking.
  • I also made a small comparison with headers in both saves. Where the lower leagues players with good air capabilities, are overwhelming the less fortunate players in the air.
Headers won per 90:
Harry Kane: 4,75
Toby Alderwireld: 4.30

Compared to my best in the air in the Norway save:

Birger Moen(Taget man):7.43
Ivar Waage(Central Defender): 6.83
  • The target man Birger Moen, is basically winning everything, with great physics, tall, and good heading. I then took a look at the previous season, where I played without the new engine, and his stats was 3.54 Headers won per 90. That tells me that things have changed in a major way in lower leagues compared to bigger leagues, when it comes to fluctuating numbers.
  • I believe this to be the case in more areas of the game, but I’m yet to discover them. I personally believe these changes are indirectly and not direct changes to the numbers and how they work. Change the match engine, and you automatically change how the numbers influence it (basically,) is my thought.
Overall conclusion

This mod is great, I would go so far to say, the best mod for FM.
Numbers do seem to be affected. Maybe not directly, but then indirectly by the new engine.
It really shines in the lower leagues, and where players got more fluctuating
numbers.
This is a must have mod, especially for a journeyman.
Personally, would I play with this, no matter the save I load up.
The positives outnumber the negatives in a large scale.

This mod is INCREDIBLE!! I was dubious I’d notice any major differences. However watching the game in comprehensive as I have always done. It feels and looks so much better. Fluid and smooth. Some of the passing moves are amazing!! Much more shape and bend on passes etc.
Thank you soooo much for this!!!

Yes I wasn’t sure if know but the passing is so much better. Also wasn’t sure my knapp tactic would work but I’m currently 2 up against inter. Has anyone experimented with a tactic to have players doing things you normally couldn’t get them to do?

Not exactly. But in lower leauges my tactic have changed slightly in a direction of playing for set pieces by having tons of positions on the opponents side (if possible) Using a good freekick/corner taker and a guy with long throws, with players that got good physics to fight for the ball in the air, seems to take advantage of the fact that there are more throw ins and corners. That have created more goals then what I believe it usually would have for me. Erhm, when it comes to half good teams and good teams, I think some sort of short passing style tactic with plenty of creative players could be an exploit, but its to early to say. I'm more focused on lower leauges.

My current tactic, with 4th division Lura in Norway. Don't be fooled by the custom tiki taka, they are not barca, but I do have more possession then my opponent (55% overall would be my guess). I'm predicted midtable, but is currently second in the league. This tactic, is something I have used for years, but not with (play for set pieces) and I have also changed some roles and instructions that didn't seem to fit with the new match engine.
