This file will need to be re-applied if/when official patches/updates are released to ensure full compatibility. This is due to the fact that some files which are removed when installing this file are automatically re-installed by Steam when official patches come out.
Some of these changes, ESPECIALLY THE CLUB NAMES, do NOT apply in existing save-games. There's a workaround for that in the first post.
The sortitoutsi real names fix changes the instances of fake names in Football Manager 2022 to the proper, real life names for awards, cities, stadiums and competitions, in cases where the actual name is not licensed, such as Champions League, Europa League and Premier League displaying instead of EURO Cup, EURO Vase and Premier Division respectively. It will also fix the fact that the German and Japanese National teams don't call up real players. These are all fully save-game compatible.
There is also a club name changes file, which changes the names of clubs in a way which ensures that any nicknames entered in the default database are retained. This file includes the proper names for Brazilian, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian (including Juventus) and French clubs, as well as Manchester Utd, to circumvent licensing restrictions. It also adds real-life media and journalists, encompassing most major footballing nations and continents. Brazilian clubs' text colours are also changed through an editor data file. Another editor data file creates the Ajax non-playing staff and the German national team manager missing from the database due to licensing restrictions. Finally, it includes a small file which corrects the 3-Letter competition names to correspond with any changes made in the lnc files. For all the files in this paragraph to work, however, you will need to start a new game.

You can find these folders by clicking, in the Finder, the Go menu in the menu bar, then choose Go to Folder and type the folder path name (obviously inserting your username), then click Go.
You can get to the Library folder by simply selecting Go from the top bar and holding "alt" key - The Library folder suddenly appears on the drop down menu
For Mac Lion users, the Library folder will be hidden. Use this link to find out how to show it.
For those struggling to find the Steam and Steam Apps folder etc using Mac with the new OS High Sierra, this link below shows how you can unhide your Library folder which will then let you find the other folders.
STEP 2:
COPY the dbc, edt and lnc folders from the downloaded pack
STEP 3:
PASTE them into each of your respective folders mentioned in step 1.
These are what the respective folder structures should look like in the 2240 folder:
dbc:
dbc/permanent:
edt/permanent:
lnc:
STEP 4:
COPY the 11 files located in the EDITOR DATA FILES folder in the downloaded pack
STEP 5
PASTE to \Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2022\editor data
This is also the same folder to be used for Gamepass.
As stated by SI themselves, for Gamepass, however:
You are not able to change the user data location as such but you can use the user data folder in Documents/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2022 to store facepacks and graphics.
Equivalent folder for Mac
Users/YOUR Mac USERNAME/Library/Application Support/Sports Interactive
By default this folder is hidden, so to access you need to do as follows:
Open Finder
Click ‘Go’ from the menubar
Press and hold down the ‘Option’ (Alt) key
This will bring up the ‘Library’, click to enter then go to ‘Application Support’ -> ‘Sports Interactive’ -> ‘Football Manager 2022’[/spoiler]
This should be what your editor data folder looks like now. There may initially be a config.xml file in this folder and it can be safely overwritten; it is generated by FM every time the game starts.

To make sure the files have been applied correctly, go to the Champions Cup and EURO Vase in your saved game, and they should be renamed to Champions League and Europa League respectively. If you are in the middle of a save-game, Japanese and German national teams will be populated in the next instance that players are called up, and not immediately. Do keep in mind that this file does not add Japan-based players, who are not in the official database and will need a third-party add-on to be created and added.
Club names are only changed if you apply the editor data files before starting a new game. For a workaround if you've already started a new save-game, then please read the opening post of this thread.

I'd rather avoid this and install your 22.4 when it is out, but that means I'd have to wait with starting my save until official SI 22.4 is out, right? This would mean another 2-3 weeks of waiting… 😢
Or maybe it is ok to start my save on 22.3 with your 22.3 fix, and when SI 22.4 update is out I'd have to just install your 22.4 update? Would it have any impact on my save started on 22.3?
mons
As already said:
You can update your files when 22.4 is released, just in case, though I don't see a lot of potential or need for any actual changes in what's included tbh. But if you want to wait another week or so until 22.4 is released and you have more complete data with the latest Chinese and Russian transfer data, who am I to tell you what to do?? 🙂
gggfunk
I don't care about the Chinese and Russian transfers at all, all I need is:
So I really just wanted to be sure that when 22.4 is out it won't wreck my save in any way.
Thanks for explaining it! I'll just wait for 22.3, install your fix, and start my save. Cheers!
mons
When a new official update is released, I cannot recall a single instance in the past in which existing saves were wrecked, as you seem to fear. Again, I obviously can't guarantee what will happen in the future (and if I could, I'd use that talent on lottery numbers not here, frankly!), but I would be extremely surprised if it happened.
In short, once 22.3 is released, there's nothing stopping you from downloading the 3.0 version of this file and starting a save 😉
gggfunk
Thanks.
My concern was the fact that your fix contains the club name changes file, Ajax file, etc., which require starting new game before applying. And I was afraid that when 22.4 appears it will make the club names back to the fake ones. But now I finally understand that if I already have my save started on 22.3 and your 22.3 fix in place, then SI 22.4 update doesn't matter to my save at all.

Would this version of the license fix still work for the winter update that is released today with database changes, or should I wait for a new version?

New version will come ASAP when @mons has the time to deliver it 😉
Bob1699
Would the old version of this fix also work with the winter update, or would using it give problems with the new DB update?
mons
Working on it. In the meantime, read this.

Thanks @mons 🙂 take the time that you need.
I don't understand why SI launch today the update… who waits months, can wait weeks for the update…

Hello. I have noticed that there's a file named licensing.dbc in the dbc folder that was installed following the 2330 update. Should that file be deleted while applying the update? Can anyone see what the contents of that file are?
:::::::::)
@mons , I've noticed that some teams, like Dortmund or Real Sociedad don't have the correct name when viewing through Leagues in Focus. Is this from your end too or do you not have this issue? I have 9 leagues displayed on that page.
mons
v3.0 of this file is now available for download, compatible with 22.3, released earlier this afternoon.
Thanks to all the contributors to this file for their help and assistance 🍻
If any issues are spotted, please let me know so that they can be rectified. Unless something major crops up, at this stage I have no plans to release a new version until 22.4 is released in a few weeks' time.
Equally, others might not understand why you would need to wait a few weeks more to get to play with the January transfers 😉
New version of the file is out, addressing that issue, amongst others.
This was covered earlier, and seems to be an issue with that particular page, where due to space constraints the correct name cannot be displayed. It's not an issue I'm aware can be solved from my end, or anyone else's for that matter.
sparkerium
Hey for some reason I can't download it. I click on the green button on the free mirror(getfiles.co.uk) and nothing happens. Does anyone else have similar issues?
:::::::::)
Thanks for clearing that up
bjoggi33
Thank you so much for the quick update!
mons
Use the mega mirror, I uploaded that one manually. The getfiles one is probably still being generated.
Globglobgabgalab
Because this is my first time updating it, I thought I should ask.
I have a save going on, from the previous database version.
I guess i delete again the folders you say in the instructions, paste the new ones in the folders (old and new) and I'm good to go.
I assume this will have no impact at all at my save, correct?
mons
Some competition and award names will be changed, but most of the other stuff will not affect your existing save. It's always good to install the fix, just in case you decide to start a new game in the future and forgot you need to apply this fix before starting a new game 😉
McG84
I've got Roony Bardghji twice in the game. Does anyone know if he was added in the real name fix?
mons
I don't add players in this file specifically to avoid this scenario. The only people added with this file are journalists, and the Ajax staff and Hansi Flick, missing due to licensing restrictions.
It'll be another editor data file you'll have downloaded which is causing this.
McG84
I've just found out the file that I've downloaded that contained him. Thanks for letting me know, at least if anyone else has him twice then they will know he's not been added in your files 👍

Hi there
Sorry if this has been answered somewhere else and I've missed it (if so could someone please point me in the right direction?), but is there any way to retain the Brazilian club names after a patch has updated the game?
Tonight my game has updated to 22.3 and although all the real names have been retained for clubs like Juventus, all the Brazilian team names have reverted to three-letter abbreviations like FLA, BOT, FLU etc. Is there any way to keep the names as Flamengo, Botafogo and Fluminense etc without starting again? I've tried the workaround in the first post but it hasn't fixed the Brazilian teams.
Is my career save managing Flamengo and Brazil ruined or can I do something to fix it?
Thanks in advance for any help!
mons
This is one of the reasons why it is recommended that you reinstall the files from this download into every folder listed every time an official update is released.
If you do so, I'm led to understand that it would work 👍
rallekarlsson
Hi,
I get all the real name fix right, but i'dont get the national teams like Germany and japan and staff in to the game.
Michael Rodriguez
Why have SI taken away the ability to use/edit mods on gamepass?
mons
As outlined in the last lines of the main post, if you are in the middle of a save-game, Japanese and German national teams will be populated in the next instance that players are called up, and not immediately.
They have? Given I'm not SI, I have no idea and can't really help you there mate 😢
Michael Rodriguez
It would appear so anyway - I can no longer ‘enable mods’ from the dropdown, doesn't mention mods at all.. and when I try to access the folders in the file explorer, I'm apparently not allowed/able to delete anything - Inc, DBC, etc. Almost as if they have encrypted it.
I have asked on both the forum and twitter, as soon as I mention the word ‘Licence' it appears I get ignored! Haha.
Ah well, fingers crossed for 23.
Michael Rodriguez
FIXED on gamepass.
If you click on ‘manage’ as opposed to enable mods, you can enable an advanced folder management feature which allows you to move the location of said folders above (I put them in my standard Sports Interactive folder, not within FM22 itself). From here I was able to edit the files, delete and put the new ones in etc. Worked a treat.
