I'm going to try and be objective because I don't like him, but here goes.
Ashley Young is not a bad footballer, he's very limited and his wing play is one dimensional and boils down to cutting inside shooting or passing but he's actually not got a terrible cross on him and he's quick. At his very best he's a good enough player to be a very useful squad player at United, which he showed last season. Even this season he's probably been the best of our wingers (but that says more about how woeful Valencia's been and how absent Nani has been, and not counting Giggs, Kagawa or Welbeck as wingers even if they've played from the left) and he's put in some of his best performances in big games (City away, Chelsea away).
But that's about it, he's never going to be a shining star at United (and I honestly think his work rate is one of the key reasons he was signed, it's pretty good) but playing well he at least contributes and doesn't look out of place.
On the other hand, we paid too much money for him, he's apparently earning far too much money, there's better squad options available (but not English, which I guess is another reason why he was signed), he's a cheat, he wears shirts that are too big for him and he seems like a cock. Despite this season he's having I don't think he's shit, just unlikeable and not brilliant.

You can't go from the confident winger he was last season to a player who doesn't believe he can beat a defender.

There's a few rumours that one leg is longer than the other which is causing him back pain, I think (but I'm not sure) that it might be related to that horrible injury he got a few years back.
Why that would mean he can no longer cross or shoot I don't know, so I suspect there may be more to it.
K3V0
I guess when you're at that elite level getting that yard of space may make a huge difference. From watching him he just seems to hesitate when taking on defenders now instead of knocking it by them and backing himself to beat them. He's a fairly basic player, like Young really, he gets the ball, goes by a defender and crosses. If you take that away from him we'd be better having him at right back and pushing Rafael forward.
EDIT: Any word on Fletcher and how he's progressing?
Haven't heard anything over this side of the world about him.

One of my legs is longer than the other. Causes shoulder, back, hip, hamstring and knee problems. Hargreaves was the same I believe. But yeah, that wouldn't have any affect on his shooting or crossing

Downing is still not a £20m player but he has shown significant improvement this season.
Lennon is alright but Valencia and Young haven't really impressed at MUFC. Not as bad as Welbeck, but neither have been amazing.
K3V0
Valencia was our player of the year last season I believe.
Slashman X
Downing - 3 goals, 5 assists
Lennon - 4 goals, 6 assists
Valencia - 1 goal, 4 assists
Young - 0 goals, 3 assists
tmatthew
What? Welbeck's been far better than those two.

Thats just premiership though isn't it?
Slashman X
Yes.
All comps:
Lennon - 4/9
Young - 3/6
Valencia - 1/6
Downing - 5/6
Better?

Number 1
Elliott - Simpson, Coloccini, S. Taylor, Yanga-Mbiwa - Cabaye, Tiote, Jonas - Ben Arfa, Cisse, Gouffran
How is one goal (two in all comps) better?
He was a useful option last season but this season he's gone backwards and not really offered as much as he's made out to be.

Welbeck's played some brilliant stuff this season, and although he's goal return has been poor that doesn't mean that he hasn't been useful.

I've obviously not watched MUFC that much then because he barely scores or assists and often looks like an odd one out up top. So what does he offer?
Poe
He's not that good though, horrendously overrated.

No he's a much better player than that.
He's technically one of our best players.

Stating the bleeding obvious

Oddly, I'm at Spurs on FM12 and a few seasons before I joined, Welbeck scored 38 in 38 a few seasons before to win them the league. Which is pretty ridiculous for any striker, nevermind DW.
Ninja
I think his biggest problem this season is that he's been shifted around to accommodate RVP, last season when he got a season as a striker his goal return was good.
I don't think it's a massive worry yet, his lack of goals. Suarez was similarly wasteful last season and then this season became a lot more prolific. He's certainly got bags of ability, so I wouldn't put it past him becoming more clinical.
In a way he reminds me a little of Carrick: he's a very good player, rated highly by those that watch him regularly but it's gonna take a season or two of being quality before others sit up and take notice.
It's probably best that people aren't wanking themselves silly over him though, a chance for a player to come through somewhat unburdened with hype and expectation.
bluemoon.
Not sure how it's still 0-0, we've been distinctly average.
