He was smiling because he knows he's going to get a player sent off due to his acting.

That's why he's an absolute dick and that behaviour is no different to diving, you're conning the referee.

Are you talking about Rafael or David Luiz? Because Rafael is obviously trying to con the referee by feigning innocence.

I agree its a red but there's not doubt Luiz's reaction got Rafael sent off. Ramires did an almost identical thing to Jones who didn't react and Ramires didn't even get booked.

I would agree if it wasn't for the fact he swung his leg all the way back before he fouled him. It was directly in front of Sian Massey, it was so obviously deliberate the reaction was just dressing on top.

Apparently (and I really can't be arse to re-watch it) Massey can be heard saying 'yellow card' so I don't think it's unreasonable to assume that Webb bought Luiz's reaction to make his decision.

Sunderland 1-0 down to Stoke and Gardner just got sent off for a shocking tackle. Not looking good for their survival hopes given he and Sessegnon will miss the rest of the season

Sunderland have had a minute's applause, which ends when Gardner clatters someone to get sent off.

I had figured Norwich would be our patsies in the face of a Wigan revival but Sunderland works too. They look in trouble.

Still gotta win at QPR, naturally

1-1. Crap.

Either a 2nd Potters goal or Southampton and Spurs pummel them will help.

Ridiculous challenge from Gardner. On the halfway line as well when you're fighting for your lives, god knows what made him go in like that.

Might be a decent point for Sunderland in the end, although their game v Southampton on Sat will be very important. Come on Wigan tomorrow!

They really aren't.

Whelan's comments about the Haidara tackle were very poor, but they're still a good, well run club with a likeable manager. They also do well to draw in the crowds they do.

Fuck right off.

Regardless of David Luiz's reaction, Rafael got sent off because he blatantly fouled him. He was nowhere near the ball and he got backlift ffs.

I guarantee you had Luiz stayed on his feet and not feigned injury like he had Rafael would have been only booked.

To be fair I think he'd have done well to stay on his feet!

I like their manager and I like Ben Watson and Shaun Maloney - everything else I hate.

Martinez is a dick. He's just very likeable. And he seems to get far too much credit.

He barely touches him.

I'm not defending Rafael, if you kick out like that you deserve the punishment, but it's fucking terrible seeing top professionals doing shit like that. Laying on the ground laughing and acting. Aguero obviously didn't kick him hard enough.

Yeah whether Luiz goes down or not doesn't change what Rafael did. How you can be so sure that he only would have got booked had Luiz not gone down astounds me.

Luiz has said that he was laughing at a fan shouting sideshow bob at him, which considering how close to the fans he was in the corner and the way he's laughing towards the fans sounds perfectly plausible.

Has he really said that? If so, my whole opinion on the guy will have changed. Fucking love Sideshow Bob.

And if Rafael hadn't kicked out in the first place then the ref wouldn't have had a decision to make.

Rafael deserved to be sent off there is no doubt to that but MoTD showed Massey asking for a yellow. The reaction of the Chelsea players appears to have had an extra effect. Retrospective action needs to be brought in for simulation like Luiz and for the player waving a card (which is supposed to be punished anyhow).

Giggs waved a card as well.
