whats the best way to update a players nationality on the data update? seen two that need changing however I think I have done it incorrectly
Footygamer
@FMStrawzy can you try and be more specific by describing what it is you've done it's much easier than me trying to guess what you attempted through the logs.
FMStrawzy
currently ive changed the non player international club to the nationality and then set role to player but this is probably wrong
https://sortitoutsi.net/football-manager-data-update/person/89051844#submission_981599
Footygamer
Yes there's currently no way to change a players nationality. Contracting to a nation should only be used for managers/coaches etc.
We could allow it if we open up submissions for existing players to be more than just CA/PA (this would also allow for adding new positions).
But we need to think about how to handle this from a moderation perspective as well.
FMStrawzy
Yep thats fair. With nationalities it’s a bit easier as you can accept proof e.g. National team lineups but with positions and stuff it’s a bit harder

Hello, in the FM24 Data Update there is a file for +1 year and contract years.
I want a career in MLS and i saw some countries like Peru for example, allow me to start in January 2024 for the 24-25 season.
That means i dont need the file above and the rest should work properly?
kojo22#0

I really think you should seperate “New Players” file from “Changes” file like before… ://
MrTPo
Im using a file before they merged both. I like the changes a lot, and don't like the introdution of new players so that was my option.
ThaGrannyLover
hello, ive downloaded the database and done all the steps. when i make a new career i have all the files selected yet when i make the career none of the promotions or relegations have worked
Footygamer
January 2024 was over a year ago so the +1 year is still necessary?
Starting in June we will have a +2 file for the leagues that run July>May and a +1 file for the leagues that run January>December
Footygamer
If you're willing to come up with a solution to our problems rather than demanding that we come up with one then sure, but until we have a solution the answer is no.
We can only generate an XML file not an FMF file. That means every single day someone has to log in, download an XML and create an FMF in the editor and upload it again.
This takes at least 5 minutes sometimes longer depending on the persons PC.
To have two separate files means taking 10+ minutes.
People also want versions that modify the years by +1, or +2 or not at all, once the current season ends, that means 3 different variations.
1 file x 3 versions x 5 minutes = 15 minutes
2 files x 3 version x 5 minutes = 30 minutes
So you're asking someone to spend an extra 15 minutes a day equivalent to 7.5 hours a month creating this extra file for you.
You need to give a really, really, really good reason why someone should spend 7.5 hours making this file for you.
I'm happy to listen to your reasons why and suggestions for how this workload could be decreased.
But you're going to have to say alot more than the one sentence you have.

So automation's not possible — fair enough. But I’m still paying £10 a month, not just tossing a fiver into a wishing well. If the service includes regular updates, then yeah, I expect... regular updates. Even if they take a whopping 15 minutes.
If that kind of time commitment is seen as a massive burden, then maybe it’s worth rethinking what’s being offered here — because from where I’m sitting, it feels like I’m being told “thanks for the money, now stop asking for stuff.”
Look, I get that it’s a bit of a pain, but either this is a service or it isn’t. If you want to keep the support going, I’m happy to keep paying. If not, I’ll find someone else who sees 15 minutes a day as part of the job, not an unreasonable demand from a tyrant client.
Footygamer
You're not paying £10 a month you're paying 42p a month???
I also don't know what you mean about “promising regular updates” we do promise regular updates and do give regular updates, the new players used to be updated once a month or so and now they're updated everyday. That's more regular. What on earth is your complaint about not receiving regular updates???
Unless i've missed something (because I may be confusing you with other posters and you didn't explain in your response as requested) you're reasoning is:
Is that correct?
If so that's not very convincing.
It's also not just 15 minutes a day, it's 15 minutes a day ontop of everything else that goes into creating the update. There are infinite tasks that take more than 24 hours a day, so not everything can be achieved so some things are prioritised over others. Creating extra files so that people can delete them is not as high a priority as linking all the external profiles so we can have injury and history updates for example. So it's not a case of refusing to put 15 minutes work in, it's choosing to put those 15 minutes into something else more important.
I would love to split the files into smaller files and allow customisation and a huge amount of work has gone into figuring out the format of DBC and FMF files and I may well have something to show for that soon but no promises because it's a very difficult task. If this can be figured out then we can generate infinite files automatically for every use case.

All I'm saying is, it would be better to give an option for people who use other editor files alongside the Sortitoutsi transfer update—which we all contribute to—by providing a version without the new players file.
For me, and I believe for most people, it’s enough if new players are updated just once a month. That would also help save some workload on your side.
I think you're looking at the situation from a different angle. I’m not asking you to create an extra file just so I can delete it—I’m asking you to separate them so I can actually use your update 🙂

Just to offer a different perspective - I could not think of a scenario where I'd want/need to use the Data Update without the new player inclusions. I've always used the Data Update as my means of getting an ‘up to date world’ and the extension to include new youngsters fits with that.
I understand there might be other custom data updates that offer new players, too - and use of those are clearly the ones where there would be an incompatibility issue, due to duplicates - but I take the fairly simple stance that I, simply, no longer need to use other files. In that way, the Data Update offering has become more valuable since the new players were included.
For me, it's no problem to have it all-in-one because I just use it as that all-in-one and it saves me needing other files to get a fuller, up-to-date database…which I always thought was one of the main points of the Data Update.
Footygamer
I'm afraid I don't understand can you please explain what you're doing step by step so I can understand what it is you're trying to do and why
How many different options do you think we should create? Because of the top of my head this is what people ask for:
And there's probably even more.
You need to give really good reasons why one of those should be included and others excluded and you're not doing so, you're just whimsically saying “it would better if we had them”.
I agree and that's why loads of time and money has been put into trying to write DBC and FMF files so we can generate them on the fly and let people customise them how they want.
But until then we rely on humans doing a manual task every single day and we need to try and find the right balance of which options we offer and which we don't.
I don't think it's true that “most people who submit a player are happy to wait a month to see them”
If someone takes the time to submit “Player A” it's annoying for them to have to wait a month to use him. What you'll find is people won't bother submitting them to the site they'll just use the editor to create them privately so they can use them straight away and then never contribute them.
We also have to deal with daily support requests “I've submitted Player A and downloaded the update but he's not showing in the game”. Dealing with these daily support requests takes even more time away from actually working on the update.

no update today?
FMStrawzy
It came out at 4am this morning
Footygamer
That time is the time the XML was built, the FMF was not built till much later and it's not available until the FMF is built.
I guess it should have “Built At” and “Released At" to be more clear
FMStrawzy
Ah I see, apologies
fmgosuya
Did you merge the roster that only reflects transfers with the one that includes created players? It overlaps with the roster I’ve been using to create players, so now there are duplicate players showing up. Is there a way to remove only the created players from this roster? It’s become really inconvenient since the previously separate files were merged.

hello mates, south america archive adds a double libertadores and sul-americana history for 2023, fix it please
Footygamer
@IgorTMT can you be specific, what do you mean “south america archive” do you mean the player histories?
Specific player names and screenshots are really helpful in speeding up any fixes, otherwise we have multiple people spending an hour plus loading up the game trying to find examples that you've already found and could have shared already.
Footygamer
Yes we did because its been really inconvenient to try and update them both everyday, there are other discussions about this already spread throughout the forums.

Hi Guys ,
When I tried to edit the profile and update this message I got this message, can anyone help me? He is now an assistant coach at Farense and wanted to update this

Unfortunately, I do not think there is any direct way to edit this entry. Essentially, the site contains databases from multiple Football Manager versions, so sometimes it returns results of people that were in previous games' databases but no longer exist in the current database. This is one such example.
As he's a non-player, I do not think there is any direct path for you to create him at this time. As you know, new player submissions are possible but new non-playing staff are not yet set up.

With the latest update there are TWO Trey Nyoni's in Liverpool's U21 squad.
