World War Z is dissapointing and average.

My thoughts exactly, I remember seeing them filming it when I was in Glasgow, it was weird seeing the finished product and it still looking so Glasgowish...

Didn't realise it was filmed in Glasgow, but now you mention it I do remember the fuss about Brad Pitt filming up there.

Anyway I've just watched This Is The End for the second time in 24 hours, it's that good.

Just watched Cell 211, a Spanish film about a young prison guard who gets trapped inside and has to pretend he's an inmate. Great film.

Finally got to see The Place Beyond the Pines. A brilliant piece of film-making, the first and second acts are spectacular, unfortunately the mediocre third act drags the film down a bit.

I wasn't as impressed with the 3rd act. Mainly because it felt like Dane DeHaan just carried on exactly what he was doing in Chronicle and the other guy was a fat douche.

I thought it was a decent film, but nothing too spectacular. Definitely not in my top five of this year, so far.

Well... I disagree with all of you. Best film of the year by a mile, so far.

Good luck converting that opinion into a stone cold fact.

Not claiming it as fact, really, very much my opinion.

What other good films have there been so far this year anyway? We'll be getting some classy ones near the end, but it's not like we've been littered with classics until now.

Django, Flight, Spring Breakers, Fast 6, Behind the Candelabra, Mud.

Put it this way, Place Beyond the Pines was perfectly fine, but it's not something I'm in a rush to ever watch again, I'd rather watch The Last Stand again, because that's more engaging.

Django and Flight were 2012.
Spring Breakers was fairly entertaining, but nothing more.
Haven't seen the rest, but Candelabra and Mud look good. Also there's Side Effects when we're talking about Soderbergh.

Anyway, I think Place is a modern masterpiece. Some of the best and most epic emotional filmmaking made in modern times.

I live in England and both were released in 2013 here.

It's my favourite of the year so far I think. My top 10 is something like:

Zero Dark Thirty, Django Unchained, Stoker, Cloud Atlas, Side Effects, Place Beyond The Pines, Before Midnight, Iron Man 3, Behind The Candelabra, Much Ado About Nothing.

Go and see Before Midnight; it's absolutely wonderful.

No love for Star Trek? Has to be in a top 5. Edit, dammit Abbott.

I never got to see Spring Breakers, Mud (not for lack of trying), Flight or Side Effects. They are all on my list.

I'm just fucking anal, but to me a film is from when it was first released, irregardless of where you live.

Norway didn't get Psycho until 1962, but that doesn't change the fact that the film is from 1960.

Cloud Atlas. No idea what the fuck was happening. In the post apocalypse world I had no idea what they were even saying 95% of the time.

The year is 1987. Motorcycle ninjas tighten their grip on Florida's narcotics trade, viciously annihilating anyone who dares move in on their turf. Multi-national martial arts rock band Dragon Sound have had enough, and embark on a roundhouse wreck-wave of crime-crushing justice. When not chasing beach bunnies or performing their hit song "Against the Ninja," Mark (kung-fu master/inspirational speaker Y.K. Kim) and the boys are kicking and chopping at the drug world's smelliest underbelly. It'll take every ounce of their blood and courage, but Dragon Sound can't stop until they've completely destroyed the dealers, the drunk bikers, the kill-crazy ninjas, the middle-aged thugs, the "stupid cocaine"...and the entire MIAMI CONNECTION!!!

Miami Connection is pure fucking gold.

I just watched The Cabin In The Woods and was completely blown away by it. I'm not really a big fan of the horror genre but was completely taken by the unique concept, which I thought was done superbly.

I enjoyed it as well.

Thought the ending was fucking hilarious with everyone getting slaughtered.

That's not even a horror film. It's a film in which things happen and then at the end people get kidnapped and later they get killed. There's not even a morale or anything, the same thing happens to both of them and there's no real struggle.

Anyway, I saw a few films. World War Z isn't actually as bad as people make out. It's kind of a different type of zombie film from what people are used to. No blood seems like a very odd decision, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and say it's so they wouldn't take away from the story but it was probably because they wanted to keep the audience rating down. It works if you don't go into it wanting to watch a film about running away from zombies, it has that but the point is more about figuring out how to combat them. Not the best film I've seen all year, but people have been pretty harsh about it. Also, taping magazines to your forearms so you can bash away zombies without getting bitten. That's smart. Well player Mr Pitt.

Also saw Juno. It's a nice film, very well presented with strong characters and it's just very pleasing. Ultimately not much happens, but there's a problem, something good happens, something bad happens and then there's a happy ending. Sometimes that's enough. I guess you'd call it a date movie.

Finally saw the new Silent Hill film. It's in a weird place. There's a lot which doesn't make sense unless you know a bit about Silent Hill, but then it takes some license with the game story line, adds characters, changes characters so it's not really fan servicey. Strong beginning and end but weak middle I suppose. Slightly below the first film, but I didn't get bored or anything so whatever.

Oh, and I saw Army of Darkness for the first time.

See Now You See Me tonight. Was a good film with a good ending I thought. One of them films where you need to pay attention the whole way through

Watched the world's worst copy of This Is The End, and while there was a chair in the way for half the film it was still pretty good.

Going to watch Paths of Glory and Point Blank tonight.
