This file will need to be re-applied if/when official patches/updates are released to ensure full compatibility. This is due to the fact that some files which are removed when installing this file are automatically re-installed by Steam when official updates come out.
Club names are only changed if you apply the editor data files before starting a new game. For a workaround if you've already started a new save-game, then please read the opening post of this thread.
The sortitoutsi real names fix changes the instances of fake names in Football Manager 2026 to the proper, real life names for awards, cities, stadiums and competitions, in cases where the actual name is not licensed. It will also fix the fact that the German National team doesn't call up real players. These fixes are all fully save-game compatible.
Follow the below instructions to install this version of this file.
Once you download this file, you’ll see these folders after extracting the ZIP:

STEP 1.
If you are playing an FM23 or FM24 save in FM26, then this fix needs to be also installed in the folders in the below image IN ADDITION TO THOSE INDICATED BELOW the image:

You have to click “show packaged contents” on the fm.app and game_plugin.bundle folders. This basically means that you need to right-click (or Control + click) on fm.app (or game_plugin.bundle) and choose Show Package Contents that lets you open up the folders inside the app icon.
Here’s how to do it on Mac:
1. Open Finder.
2. Press Command + Shift + G to bring up “Go to Folder.”
3. Copy and paste this path, then hit Enter:
~/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Football Manager 26/fm.app/Contents/PlugIns/game_plugin.bundle/Contents/Resources/shared/data/database/db/2600
Once you’re in both the db/2600 and db/2620 folders, that’s where you drop the real name fix files and don’t forget to restart FM afterwards so the changes take effect.

Follow these steps to correctly place the editor data folder for Football Manager 26 on macOS.
1. Open Finder.
2. Press Command (⌘) + Shift + G to open the Go to Folder window.
3. Copy and paste the following path, then press Enter:
~/Library/Application Support/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 26/
4. If you don’t see an editor data folder, create one manually.
The folder name must be exactly:
editor data
(all lowercase, with a space)
5. Make sure the editor data folder is inside the Football Manager 26 directory. Not in Documents, Public, or anywhere else.
6. Place the downloaded .fmf files (for example, from the Real Name Fix or other mods) into this editor data folder.
7. Restart Football Manager 26, and when starting a new game, ensure the files are ticked/selected under Database → Editor Data Files.

For anyone still having trouble with Napoli / Parthenope and everything else in Real Name Fix working OK (team names etc.)
I have no idea why this is. Tested using latest version of fix and game (on Mac).

If this has been asked before I apologise, but in FM24, with the real name fix the names in the editor automatically changed even without me loading in any other data files. Have I messed up somewhere or has the change in engine caused it to behave differently this time around? It's not a big deal, as it all works otherwise, but I was genuinely curious whether or not it was my mistake?

The editor this year has a separate set of folders, so you'd need to apply the dbc, edt, lnc fix only for those folders, for the changes to apply there.

Bugs me a bit that the standard answer from si now when encoutering bugs or crashes revolves around deleting all custom files and verifying game files.
So essentially all the hard work from everyone in here to provide the license fix which makes the game feel real, gets shot down as one of the factors that makes the game crash.
Basically we better not use any of the files to enhance the game like a license fix or logo/kit pack 🤷🏻♂️

Based on the limited (albeit long-standing) assistance I try to offer on this site, people will find ways to install third-party fixes incorrectly that you wouldn't imagine possible. I know how frustrating it is from my end for people to complain about something not working when it's entirely their fault that it isn't, and who simply can't comprehend why that is the case, and that will certainly be multiplied many times over when it comes to SI.
It's also tremendously frustrating racking one's brain to try and come upon with solutions for a problem caused by something outside of your control done wrongly by a third party. Tbh, I can't say I blame them much, in theory at least.

Thanks for the extensive reply Mons.
You know, being 35 years old right now, I'm playing the game since ‘01. Not that it validates something, but I have come to be pretty familiar over time with the add ons and how to correctly install them. That’s also why I litterally have never had any problems with the fixes or facepacks you guys provide.
When playing the game, the only things I use are the real names fix, a logo pack and often the cutout facepack. I don't even bother using anything else because i'm afraid it could mess the game up too much. (apart from using Daveincid's realism files for fm24 which have proven to be both good and stable throughout very long saves, but I deliberately avoid them for now until the game is in a very good and stable state in the future)
So yeah, when getting such replies after taking the time to write several extensive bug/crash reports and handing them over my saves, it feels a bit harsh. Because crashes are still happening to me even when I just play the base game without a single add on or pack whatsoever.
But like you said, you can't hold it against them no. They have to bear with a lot of stupidity and short sightedness nowadays and still they are expected to fix everything which might not even be a fault on their end.

I guess this patch will need an update with the new release? It stopped working for me after I installed the updates via Steam.

Typically, it doesn't need a new update to this file - but it does require for this to be reinstalled/reapplied. The updates from SI typically overwrite, or reinstate, some of the files that this real name fix replaces.
As a first port-of-call, re-download the current version and reinstall it (including the steps that ask to delete certain base-game files). That is usually sufficient to get things working again.
Edit: Although, on this occasion, perhaps a new version was needed…which has promptly been released.

v2.1 of this file is now available for download to take into account the release of a new official update.
Among the changes is a slightly updated Ajax staff file to reflect Heitinga's sacking and some other changes, and several club and competition name changes. Thanks to the community for their contribution 🍻
Remember, you need to reinstall in full, as always 👍

I had loaded before… after the installation the same file could not be loaded. Never seen this.

I've reverted to original files and it is loading again. Don't know what happened. Any ideas?

Yes, you haven't installed the download correctly.
Can I see screenshots of what you've placed where? You need to show me clearly the full path and the full contents of the folder.
