Arsenal are a talking point in the Fabregas deal because of a transfer clause (oh no, not another one) that gives them dibs on his next move. Now Fabregas doesn't fall totally in line with what Arsenal are looking for as he's yet another talented and creative central midfielder, more attacking that not, but not to be interested in this potential move would be foolish at best, downright stupid at worst. The boy loves Arsene Wenger and Arsenal and you can't afford to turn your noses up at world-class players, even if they don't fit the exact blueprint.
If Fabregas was really available, his history at the club and all comments attributed to him indicate that we'd be in with a fighting chance of getting him and what a psychological blow it could be to beat United to their number 1 target...how have Arsenal and Wenger responded to Man United's very public pursuit of him? With complete public dis-interest. It may not be exactly the move Wenger wants to make, but by showing such little interest in Fabregas, Wenger runs the risk of pushing him closer to the United entrance...providing Barca agree to sell that is. Complete dis-interest is how Arsenal seem to have approached the whole transfer window, dithering about on any deal they're involved in and whilst keeping their eyes very much on a player who's attitude stinks, doesn't want to be in England and won't be available straight away...Ludicrous.

They've finished between 6th and 8th for the past 4 years.
It was probably overly harsh, but I don't think people would really have any problems with me saying that Everton are a mid-table club, and they have the exact same record in that time span.
It just annoys me when football fans talk about trophies their club won before they were even born as a justification for why their club is bigger than clubs who are bigger by any other possible measure.

Because in the 10 years before these 4 years they were comfortably one of the so called "big 4" - Everton were not.
If Man Utd finish between 5th and 8th in the next 4 years they wouldn't be a "mid table club".

And yes, we would. We'd have a big stadium and a fairly recent history of winning leagues but we wouldn't be a big club, at all, in that scenario.

Not at all but Newcastle and Liverpool are completely different. One is the second most successful club in the history of this league, the other isn't.
Liverpool are still a huge club - they've had a bit of a shit time lately but they're still a big draw.

When Newcastle were in the Championship they were definitely a bigger club than the likes of Burnley, Hull, Portsmouth and Wigan despite those all being in a higher league. Same with Wolves and Yeovil this year. And Juventus will have been one of the biggest cubs in Italy when they were in Serie B.
If say Manchester United struggled without Ferguson and finished 6th two years running, they would still almost certainly be the biggest club in England.

Who's the bigger club, Manchester United or Manchester City? Because according to your line of argument we are by some orders of magnitude bigger than they are, it's a nonsense.
Liverpool are not a huge club, at the moment, if they recover from this position and put together a string of Champions' League qualifications and challenge for trophies again then they will once again become one. I don't deny that their history is a draw, but that's all it really is. Players will happily turn them down to go to clubs that don't have it be it City, Chelsea, Arsenal or even Spurs.
