Turns out the Ask.fm suicide girl sent the abuse to herself. I wonder when people will apologise for the vile shit they said about the owners now. It also makes a mockery of the sister who said she was targeted by the 'trolls' herself. Hang them all.

That's extremely messed up and won't help the family with figuring out why she hung herself.

I've been watching a lot of BBC News this week and they haven't stopped going on about how poisonous ask.fm is and how it needs to be better monitored etc. I can't wait for the fallout tomorrow. They had advertisers dropping them left right and centre because of this.

The thing is that they already have the privacy to block anonymous questions and any questions can be reported via a button (just like Twitter). Nothing is wrong with the site but then the idiots will carry on and demand more censorship despite the fact that her death is more to do with her parents than the innocent site.

Yeah. They can't get into the fact that it is just dicks. The abuse is criminal and nothing to do with trolls.

Online bullying is such a futile thing. On one hand the victim should realise that it's very easy to escape a bully online, just don't visit the site or block them. On the bullying side, the permanence of the comments you make almost inevitably leaves a trail leading back to your indiscretions. I feel like it's about time we had a renaissance within schools, a return to old fashioned bullying. I mean it works out perfectly for both parties. The bully gets to tell losers they're gay or a retard and then threaten to fuck them up if they tell anyone, including the safety net of a teacher being told if things get too serious. And the victim gets to have their home life as solitude, a respite from the pain of some big fuck making their life at school hell. Online bullying means there's no break in play, and that can lead to suicides, which is what no bully wants.

https://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/a-return-to-old-fashioned-face-to-face-bullying-stop-bullying-people-online-and-return-to-bullying-purely-at-school

I started a petition, which will hopefully accelerate the change we need.

It's actually a very good point you've just made.

No doubt bullying has changed these days considering a lot of kids have mobile phones and personal computers at a very young age.

There is an 8 year old around here who has a mobile. The kid should be taken by social services as that is flat out moronic

That's fucking crazy... Why does an 8 year old need a phone ffs!!

I got my first mobile phone off my parents when I was 14 and we'd moved to Australia, the latter being the only reason I got one, because I didn't really know my way around this place that well at the start.

A lot of parents don't understand that the internet is no longer some alternative reality, it isn't even an extension of someone's social life. It is an integral part of almost everyone's social life now, at least for those under about 28.

I think the best example is to look at the reactions to offensive and hateful comments on Twitter. I can only talk about myself, but I can assume to a certain degree that there are people who would side with me, that reading about hateful comments like "i wish you were dead", "I'll rape you", "I'm going to blow you up" don't even register on my radar. That's because I've grown up with the internet, exaggeration as a form of expression is par for the course. But the fascinating thing has been watching people whose use of the internet prior to Twitter was for email and occasionally checking out the BBC website: they get angered by it. Outraged. They're up in arms, they want justice.

Let's be real here, if anyone on here received a death threat from someone on Twitter, would they do anything? I highly doubt it. But it's this intriguing melting pot of old world meeting the new world and not liking it, so they're trying to mould it to fit their beliefs.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying going around telling people you want to kill them should be an acceptable thing, but I just find it difficult to care because I'm so desensitised to it, but also I accept the internet, at least the social side, has to be taken with a pinch of salt.

I do wonder if things will still be the same in 50 years time, or whether the internet will be a clean, sanitary version of now with blocks and panic buttons all over the place and some kind of digital response team. I think it'd be rather sad, because for better or worse the ecosystem the internet has now is endearing, in its own way, like an irradiated dog or ripped jumper.

What I find amazing is that ask.fm said that 98% of the messages she was sent were from her IP. So she (assuming someone in her family wasn't out for her) sent herself a good 200 posts roleplaying people who hated her. That's not the fault of ask.fm or the fault of cyberbullying, that's just good old fashioned crazy.

She hated herself, she wanted to kill herself but she wanted to justify it. So she made this ask.fm page so the blame wouldn't be her. In the eyes of the people she'd leave behind, she'd be killing herself because of some bullies rather than showing herself to be weak or unwell in anyway. Because 14 year old girl logic.

Also, Fanny. Were you in Winchester today? I swear I saw someone who was the spit of you.

No. Last time I was in Winchester was in 2002 when had a race on the Itchen. As the strokeman I led the crew to a four length victory over Winchester before being asked to leave school a few weeks later for not doing any work. Halcyon days.

Winchester Boys School I assume? Good. Those guys are cunts. When Peter Symmonds is only the second cuntiest school in your city then something is wrong. Oh wait, Kings. Whatever, Winchester is cunts all the way down. Need to move.

1 million people across the globe die by suicide each year. That’s one suicide every 40 seconds.
More people die by suicide each year than by murder and war combined.

It’s estimated that approximately 5% of people attempt suicide at least once in their life.
Between 10% and 14% of the general population have suicidal thinking throughout their lifetime.

Suicide is the second biggest cause of death worldwide among 15-19 year olds.
100,000 adolescents die by suicide every year.

Suicide is estimated to be under-reported for reasons of stigma, religion and social attitudes. Many suicides are hidden among other causes of death, such as road traffic accidents and drowning.

This seems to be quite a complex issue. Can we all just blame something instead? Preferably something I don't really understand?

We had a 20 year old from our rugby league team take his life last week. On sunday we had a big day dedicated to him but mainly his family, took donations for them and other things and a heap from our club are going to his funeral. It hit me harder seeing his sister burst into tears walking through our tunnel then it did actually hearing he took his own life.

I find it unfair on the family mostly.

I find suicide selfish, one of my own mates took his own life. How did he take his life?
