Downloaded the first two seasons of The Killing (Forbyselden or however it's spelled) and all three of the BBC's version of Wallander.

Yes.

It's probably prudent to point out that the Danish version is pretty popular in England.

The English have a bit of a fascination with Nordic crime thrillers at the moment.

The BBC version of Wallander is great.

Its odd isn't it, they're not really that much different from the crime thrillers we produce which is why they're so popular i guess.

Watched Deadwood over my holidays, great show.

Luther's season 3 was alright but not as good as what I remember of the first two.

Been grinding through Breaking Bad to catch up this past couple of weeks, i like it and all but i think everyone going nuts about it has put it on a pedestal abit. I think i'd like it more if all the characters weren't bellend's

That said maybe id be more into it if i wasn't watching one episode after another on Netflix.

Where are you up to?

it gets so much better when Saul and Gus become recurring characters and Walt 'breaks bad'. Have to admit to trying to show the first season to my girlfriend the otherday and getting bored myself during the first few episodes.

Jesus. People.

The first couple of episodes are fantastic. Him having the drug dealer locked up in the basement, the whole moral dilemma.

That bit is fine and all, but it just can't compare to how good the show gets later on. I appreciate it needs that moral build-up and the gradual Heisenbergisation of Walt but I don't think it can compare with episodes like Crawl Space.

Just like I feel whilst fly was a necessary episode, in some ways, I hated it.

Well, Fly wasn't a good episode, but that was because of it's theatricality. Felt like a parody almost.

You're not really supposed to like them with the exception of, arguably, Hank and Jesse. Probably Walt Jr too, but he's such a minor character he doesn't really matter.

Surely i should care what happens to them though? otherwise whats the point?

Yeah i did then, but as the series goes on i care less and less what happens to him. Now i find i'm just watching it because ive put some much time into it.

Weird. I can't say I quite understand how you feel.

Do you have a thing with unlikeable characters in general, or is it just here?

Surely you care what happens to Walt even though you don't like him?

If you don't actively hate him now you probably will by the time you've caught up to season 5, and then surely you'd want him to get what he deserves?

I think they've treated Walt's progession perfectly. Skylar is a bitch, but he's a loving husband who cares for his family. He gets cancer and you can understand and justify his decision to make meth, then he kills two people. The first one was in self defence, the second? There was no doubt that if he let him go he would get stabbed, did he have a choice, could you justify it?

Then his cancer goes, he's not dying anymore but he's still cooking meth and people are still dying because of him. Then he looses his family as well, and still he cooks. You realise that Walt doesn't care about making enough money to support Walt Jr through college and his wife after he's gone, he wants an Empire.

I think Walt's one of the best characters going, and Cranston brings him to life perfectly.

those sorts of characters are the best, the ones you know are dickish but still root for, thats what sets shows with good writing apart. Tony Soprano is the prime example. Admittedly i havent seen as much Breaking Bad as most people, im still only on Season 2, but those sort of characters are always my favourite.

Didn't she initiate the affair with Ted before she knew what was going on though?

Unless I've got my chronology wrong, didn't see effectively cheat on her husband with cancer because he was being distant?

As far as I remember, the affair with Ted happened after Walt's constant lies and the seperate phones and everything.

Still, I think the reasons people hate Skylar are pretty fair, the worse Walt's got the more people seem to be liking her again but she's not blameless.

You've just reminded me of my least favourite bit of the show though the 'I fucked Ted' bit is censored. It's ridiculous, violence, drugs, half blown up faces, attempting to kill kids thats cool, but a swear word is censored? Fucking Americans.

Walt's an absolutely horrendous human being. Too proud to ask for help from people willing to help him. He'd rather risk his own life (and thus, the life of his family) so he doesn't appear weak.

You pity him in the beginning, because it's a flawed man trying to make his way in the world and leave something for his family, but as soon as that doesn't factor into it anymore we're shown what kind of man Walt really is.
