Yeah, it's a decent film I thought.

Prefer Hurt Locker, but it's another good 'war' flick from Bigelow.

Going to binge on some foreign language films I've yet to see. So far I've downloaded the following:

Gomorrah
Un Prophete
Dogtooth
The Secret in their Eyes
Aguirre: Wrath of God

Also have some Hollywood crap to work through:

Dredd
Taken 2
Fast 6
Assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert Ford

Fast 6 features the world's longest runway and lots of absolutely cringe-worthy dialogue.

Taken 2 is a steaming pile of dog shit. The last scene is laughable. Assassination of Jesse James isn't a bad film. I probably should have watched it with subtitles, couldn't understand what they were saying at times.

Let's be clear here, Taken and Fast 5 are two of the greatest films ever made. In the history of cinema they belong on plinths at the Parthenon of excellence. It is my duty to at least learn what happens next to Bryan Mills and Dominic Toretto.

Taken 2 is so shit it's not even laughable. Calling it dumb fun is praising it far too highly.

Holy fuck. I just watched Pain and Gain.

That film is a mess. It can be summed up by the use of Rebel Wilson and allowing her to just say whatever she wants, but feeding out from that... I mean it's a true story and the tone is so... so fucked. It's presented as almost a light hearted romp and our heroes are three fucking idiots. I've read some people try to justify it as a satire of the American Dream, but I find it difficult to rationalise the the satirisation of a true story. A true story which involves the brutal torture of one man and the murder of two others.

If anything it just shows Michael Bay can only make one type of film, that film is great if it's Bad Boys II, but when it tries to be a character piece it just shows how limited he is in scope and direction. I feel sorry for anyone actually related to this event because he's basically made a joke out of it.

Serious piece of shit film I highly recommend you see, just to understand it, to see what a bad film looks like.

I was going to watch that tomorrow night. Just watched Oblivion. Thought it was alright, it didn't try to be too smart, the storyline was decent. Felt the first hour and a bit went a bit slow though.

90 minutes has not been a standard for anything but comedies and light drama at any point, really.

Anybody else see Upstream Colour? I think, like Primer, I both love it and reject it at the same time. I feel bad that I had to read around to fully get it but it's a pretty inventive, daring piece of filmmaking. It's probably about as 'art film' as you get but the cinematography and sound design is staggering.

Other than that I saw The Way, Way Back which was good fun if quite sleight. Sam Rockwell steals the show so worth seeing it just for him.

And Jurassic Park on the IMAX which pretty much confirms it's position in my top 5. That film is bloody perfect.

YES!

It's not often I watch a film and I'm sitting there going "holy shit, this thing is an actual masterpiece". It's a fucking winner from top to bottom. Acting, writing, cinematography. I can't stop thinking about just how good it is.
