Pardew's sanction: 3 game stadium ban, 4 game touchline ban, £60,000 fine and a warning.

Absolutely silly really, when compared to racists and really bad tackles.

“Southampton have a different type of catchment area. There is a big working class community, but there are a lot of middle-class kids who have good education.”

“The players who come out of Southampton are quite intelligent and there might be something in that.” “We have to put more intelligence into our players here.”

This is the Newcastle United dream team Freddy Shepherd and Sir John Hall could have delivered the Magpies in the 1990s.

United travelled far and wide to try to deliver the biggest and best names in football to St James’ Park.

http://i3.chroniclelive.co.uk/incoming/article6933933.ece/alternates/s615/team.jpg

Suprised Figo and Rivaldo got in ahead of Cordone and Ian Rush...Can't believe Des Hamilton and Gui'varch didn't even make the bench.

The Chronicle are running a series of articles on how amazing Freddy Shepherd is. Absolutely amazing that people believe this absolute bollocks.

As I said in an earlier Blog, There are fans coming on this site and are moaning about the financial way Freddie ran the club, But there is one thing nobody can say was his love-passion and ambition he had for Newcastle

Top rated comment.

He openly laughed at Newcastle fans and called them thick.

The history and psyche that drove them behind their years in charge is interesting to read but aside from the fact its ridiculous they were allowed back on the board less than a few months after the fun with the Fake Sheikh in the first place, the business model they had would've led to the club falling off a cliff at some point.

Figo and Rivaldo? wtf

I'm sure the only time we went for Rivaldo was when he was getting on a bit and Bobby rang him and he basically said not a chance.

Didn't Allardyce-era Bolton bid for Rivaldo as well?

I'm guessing he was missing the £750k a year pay packages he had for himself. I mean, Ashley is clearly not interested in us beyond free promo space for his business enterprises, but a return for Shepherd would hardly be progression.

I'd still love to know what was done with Alan Pardew's hefty fine.

There was no 'psyche' apart from getting rich. Patronise the fans, when they get a bit restless and make some new signings using the clubs money. But they always made sure they got paid first. 'Resigning from the board is a completely meaningless act, when they were still majority shareholders and still on their massive salaries.

It is interesting to read this idea that they wanted to amass some kind of Geordie Galactico XI, particularly when played against the fact they replaced Robson (a very capable manager) with Souness (worse than useless).

But I did say that the business model was a mess that was going to end poorly - they did make themselves very wealthy, while borrowing a ton of cash from Barclays and advancing adidas and Northern Rock sponsorship fees to fund trophy signings with limbs made of felt, thus causing problems on and off the pitch. What's depressing to read, however, is that we were actually making more sponsorship and matchday money while they were driving the club off a cliff. The stats are there - in 2006/07, we had matchday and commercial income of around £61million, whereas in 2011/12, the same income made around £37million. So while it made more overall turnover, nearly all of it was Sky TV money and on those two merits, the club is a failing business: http://www.themag.co.uk/tyne-talk/ggg/

Yes, I guess it was a sham resignation. Plus the fact Douglas Hall's dad was owner meant the shares were never going to be taken away from him or his mate Fat Freddy. I suppose its naive to have expected him not to weasel his way back to the top. Also interesting to see a lack of anything about this time reproduced.
I'd still love to know what was done with Alan Pardew's hefty fine.

We'll probably never know.

I've seen speculatory articles that the players are unhappy both with each other, and with Pardew's management style, with inquisitions held after both the last two outings. Appears Coloccini and Ben Arfa are particularly irritated.

Dunno how true they are but the fact it sounds likely - not least in Ben Arfa's case, given I doubt he's pleased at being the manager's whipping boy - means that things really do feel like they're falling to bits.

Pardew's man management was the only thing about him that is PL quality after this season of continued media mishaps that he was normally so good with.

Long way back for Pardew now.

Newcastle boss Alan Pardew is hopeful of having striker Loic Remy and full-back Mathieu Debuchy back as he attempts to end a dreadful run of form against Swansea on Saturday.

He said: "It will be a big boost for us in terms of their experience at this level and their quality. It's nice to see them back.

"With the World Cup not far around the corner, it's important that they get the time in now."

Weird thing to say.

Tuchel would be good - I doubt we're big enough to attract him though - he's probably replacing Klopp.

I'd like to see us bring in De Boer, someone with a bit of tactical nous will do me though.

Cos he shouldn't really be caring about them playing in the World Cup, he should just want them playing for Newcastle. He's basically saying they're only playing for ye to get match fit for the World Cup
Shola

He's not saying that at all. Pardew with some goal alignment - Remy and Debuchy (and Sissoko) should make sure they get fit and have a good final few games to ensure they make the World Cup.

International players playing in the WC should have a sort of ambassadorial role and put Newcastle in the 'shop window' and make it more attractive club. ie Cabella, Siem de Jong etc. can see that playing for Newcastle won't damage their international ambitions and will therefore factor into their decision making process. Pulis dropped Begovic for the final few games of the season to ensure Sorensen got in the Euro2012 Denmark squad.

As well as Pardew being nice will theoretically make Debuchy and Remy like him and the club more and be more willing to stay.

I'm sure there is a load of similar quotes from pretty much every manager in the league with international player going to the WC.

Today's team:
Krul - Colo, Willo, Dummett - Anita, Gosling, Tiote, Gouffran - de Jong, Cisse, Shola

Any idea who or what is playing where?

Here's hoping Debuchy and Remy are fit enough to come off the bench and give our formation an air of coherence.
