According to the Chronicle, Colback will sign for Newcastle once he's back from holiday.

Now lets sign Borini and Alonso.

Would love to sign Borini. Think he's a great player.

Well, we signed Ryan Taylor because he kept scoring against us...

Borini would be a half-decent addition as well.

I'd agree with Borini tbh, wouldn't be bad at all. Bets on Ryan Taylor being classed as "like a new signing" this year?

Siem de Jong's agent has also been in contact with Newcastle, but no concrete offer. Siem de Jong is saying nice things as well.

Has Pardew or anyone involved with Newcastle ever said the phrase 'like a new signing'?

Going back a while, but I've heard stuff like this before

http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/alan-pardew-marveaux-like-new-1364785

Irony in it being Marveux who seems to be one of Pardew's least favourite players. Article also mentions a similar comment about Ben Arfa

Is Siem de Jong the shit one ye had on loan this/last season or was that a different one? Cos he was shite

That's a different one, Siem is seemingly half decent.

Yorkshire media reporting an approach has been made for Ross McCormack. Would be a good signing. I wanted Jordan Rhodes as well, but I think he's been valued at £15M+.

I found two uses - one from Pardew describing Marveuax ahead of the 2012-13 season, and one of Chris Hughton talking about Joey Barton ahead of the 2010-11 campaign. I suppose its the kind of thing that has been associated with the chap, rather than a common utterance.

Nah that was Nigel.

In fairness to Luuk, he was a struggling, not match sharp striker, thrown into a struggling team. He didn't look very good, but it's not a death knell for his career. Wouldn't be totally surprised if Newcastle made a late August low or loan offer, if they still need a striker.

Fairly sure Newcastle aren't after McCormack, and definitely not for £8m. Leeds seem to look pretty skint, right now.

Daily Mail reporting the Colback deal is done. Surely it must be with the Chronicle being so certain.

And erm, Borini to Newcastle is now doing the twitter rumour rounds. Weird.

Signing Borini to piss off Sunderland would be funny but as the figure of £12million has been quoted, I doubt we'll bother.

Meanwhile, Leeds' owner has said he rejected a bid from us for Ross McCormack, but Newcastle papers saying no bid was made. Helpfully clear as always.

Now for the other 4/5 we need.

Newcastle sign a young striker, who's just had a very good season. Near universal criticism.

Anyway a 72 page thread on RTG (Mackem forum) on how Colback is average, and they're glad he's going.... seems the lady doth protest too much.

Apparently the Gomis deal is done according to the Daily Mail. (Not quite ready to believe that one yet)

Debuchy is fine btw. He was back on the bench sounds like a minor injury.

Other angle of that photo shows its Colback.

Decent option, as is Perez, but we still need much more.

At least we're signing squad players though which we haven't done since about 2006

2 forwards and a creative midfielder and I'll be very happy with the transfer window.

Considering the board are refusing to pay an extra £2-3million for Cabella, I think that's flown the coop. Cheapskate bastards.

My main worry is that there either isn't any decent forwards available or Newcastle can't find any at the minute. Got a feeling they're willing to pay Gomis big wages, because they can't find anyone else.

Aye the reported Gomis wage would make him either joint-highest earner with Coloccini or outright highest. I don't know if he'll be good enough for that kind of money, in a way that Remy (fat chance) would've been.

Club comment on Colback departure.
After the announcement that Jack Colback has signed for Newcastle United, SAFC has issued the following statement:
“Jack is a player we have nurtured and developed through our academy system since he was eight years old. We gave him the opportunity to become a professional footballer and are therefore extremely disappointed in the events that have led to his departure from the club.
“This wasn’t about money - the club agreed to all of the terms demanded of us during discussions and we were always led to believe that Jack wanted to stay with us. At his and his representatives’ request, final talks were put on hold until the club secured its top flight status. To our dismay however, we were subsequently never given the chance to negotiate with him to stay.
“For him to then leave the club that has supported him throughout his formative years in such a manner, with no chance for Sunderland to recover any of the significant investment that it has made in him as a player, has left a bitter taste."

Sunderland have moved quickly to deny reports they are bitter....

Yeah, can definitely believe this Colback stuff.....

Apparently signed for Newcastle. Changed his mind and wanted to sign for West Ham. Newcastle and his agent have been arguing for weeks. Only after West Ham refused to pay Newcastle £5m that his agents gave in.

I wouldn't say I would blame him if he got uneasy given nobody has moved from Wearside to Tyneside directly in 22 years and next season he'll probably get the kind of welcome they usually reserve for Steven Taylor. But I doubt its completely true.

Much more likely that Colback had a change of heart after being offered 50kpw (if true) - it's probably double what he's on at Newcastle.

Gomis has reportedly been offered 70-80kpw.

United have identified 23-year-old Lyon forward Alexandre Lacazette as one of their priority targets. The club also want Hertha Berlin forward Pierre-Michel Lasogga – who is a German under-21 international – and have been quoted £20million for Swansea City striker Wilfried Bony. Ironically they have also watched FC Twente’s Dutch forward Luc Castaignos, who seems set for the Liberty Stadium in a deal worth £6.9million.

Cheers
