Well an injury crisis in defence. Good thing we still have Yanga-Mbiw... er... well there's always Santo... oh... well we could call up Streete or Mbabu... oh... er...

Quite obvious this would happen when Ashley cashed in on players without replacing them.

Not so sure we can call it an injury crisis though, considering we've only actually lost 2 defenders to injury.

May have only lost two defenders, but we only had six defenders with PL first team experience anyway. Although at this rate it might be bumped to seven given Curtis Good is probably not too far off getting a spot.

Anita and Ryan Taylor still exist as well. I'm guessing Streete and Mbabu can come back as well. Plus World Cup defender Jonas Gutierrez.

Still not sure how buying players, paying them and then selling them for less money than you pay for them is 'cashing in'.

The six I counted were Janmaat, Colo, Willo, Haidara, Dummett and Raylor (Steven Taylor is discounted because he's long term injured anyway).

I'm under the assumption Streete and Mbabu are on "no recall" loans like Darlow and Lascelles currently are. Anita seems to be used in more midfield even if he can be at full-back, while Jonas appears to have been forgotten, even if he may well end up back in the squad.

I think its interpreted as cash in because they could be of use yet are sold. Clearance sale might be a more appropriate terminology.

Anita and Jonas are midfielders, not defenders. Ryan Taylor won't be fully fit.

And he cashed in on Mbiwa and Santon because he was under the (wrong) impression that their values would dwindle.

They've moved on and both played European football since.

And even still, they were both sold without replacements - the fact we failed to get good money for good players isn't a good thing. They needed replaced regardless of how much they went for, which wasn't done.

Cabella now injured too.

So no Cabella, De Jong, Aarons, Tiote, Dummett, Steven Taylor or Ryan Taylor, plus passengers like Riviere will still likely be in use.

Anyone else worried for the game tomorrow ending very badly?

Anita has probably played as many games at full back then in midfield in his career? Hasn't he? And Ryan Taylor should be nearly fit by now hopefully.

And yeah, Newcastle were probably OK with allowing MYM to leave, but Santon leaving is ridiculous, especially with Taylor breaking himself again.

I presume Streete and Mbabu are recallable, allowing Darlow and Lascelles to leave was presumably a sweetener to get Forest to sell, whereas Newcastle have nothing to gain from a similar arrangement with Rangers.

The SFA has fined Mike Ashley £7,500 for breaching duel ownership rules: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/31714103

That's so going to stop him.

A billionaire being fined £7.5k is like me or you being fined 1p. Good work SFA.

tbf the far larger incompetence in this is fining him. At the very least Ashley has money. Rather than the usual conmen running Rangers.

Aye, Ashley would be decent for Rangers - he'll be able to get them into the SPL and most likely the CL on very minimal investment.

Which will make him more money.

Annoys me how two injuries to starting defenders and we're so thin on the ground Ryan Taylor has to play.

Why oh why did we let MYM and Santon leave.

Fucking hope the club give Ryan Taylor and Jonas new deals (if they want them).

Anyway weirdly warming to John Carver more and more.

I think Raylor will get a new deal but Jonas... who knows. He didn't seem too bad tonight considering this was his first game of Premier League football in nearly a year.

Yeah I'd give those 2 new deals too, only a year though.

His obsession with 4-4-2 is annoying me - Obertan and Ameobi are hopeless. Our only attacks of any note yesterday (Perez to Cisse and Sissoko to Riviere) came through the middle - although Cisse did have a chance from a header.

It's unsustainable - we'll never move forward playing 4-4-2 with poor wingers. Although then again we'll never move forward under Mike Ashley.

Hardly an obsession. I don't even think we've played 4-4-2 properly under Carver.

Was more of a 4-2-3-1 on Saturday, and Riviere was still well behind Cisse last night. And Carver only had 2 CM's to pick from as he's clearly pissed off with Anita and Taylor had to play LB (and his nowhere near fit enough to play CM).

Reckon Colback will be in for Riviere, next game.

4231 with a striker (who is awful, btw) in AMC is pretty much 442. They're never going to track back properly to help the midfield and are never gonna be capable of building play properly. Unless they're a deep lying striker which Rivière clearly isn't.

433/451 is the way forward, 442 is too easy to play against, especially with two centre midfielders like Abeid and Sissoko who love giving the ball away.

I know the CM position is depleted but then again we should stop selling players and not replacing them.

Colback Tiote Sissoko is a decent CM trio - just need to get it into Tiotes head to tackle and win the ball then play it simple instead of thinking he's Cabaye.

Provides protection for our awful back 4 too.

Cabella Cisse Ayoze upfront.

Yeah and I reckon they'll go back to that imo next game, Colback-Abeid-Sissooko is the best the midfield has looked. And hoping Obertan and Ameobi can do more pushed up a bit more.

And not replacing CM's? Not that Tiote, Colback and De Jong are unavailable, Taylor and Jonas not 100% and Anita out of favour?

Wtf was Tim Krul thinking?

In the winning run earlier this season we mainly played 4-3-3 with Sissoko in a box to box roll and Colback and Abeid or Anita as deep liers. Maybe that should be looked into again. Might have to be given Cisse is most likely going to be out for a while.
Wtf was Tim Krul thinking?

Most of us have put the blame on Abeid. He got in the way of Gouffran, who looked to have Shrek under control, and then made the idiotic pass while falling to Krul, who did not want it. Rooney's running did not help Krul but his composure was non-existant. Don't know what the fuck Janmaat was doing either. He stood and watched the ball go past him.

I'm just surprised Williamson somehow hasn't gotten the blame

When Abeid plays the holding role, allows Colback to press higher up. Certainly looked good, for the two or three games they played it.

Aye I think Abeid is better at holding the midfield. Would like to see 433 done properly but it won't happen.

Cabella cisse ayoze with de Jong just behind them has potential.

There's probably someone who would try tbf. Though for once his only tactic of "hoof it" would've saved us a point.
