Also that 47,200+ attendance figure is way higher than what looked like actually being there.

Thought that too, no way was there over 47,000 there.

Man Utd aren't Newcastle though. I think they have compulsory purchase schemes.

I would have thought 43'000 maybe?

The performance wasn't very good but its pleasing to see Vurnon Anita have a good game.

Newcastle United fans 'boycott' match against Tottenham

Thousands of Newcastle supporters appear to have boycotted the home Premier League game with Tottenham in a protest against owner Mike Ashley.
The Magpies last month announced record annual profits of £18.7m, and many fans have criticised the ambition of Ashley.
The club had £34m in its bank account at the end of 2013-14, but spent nothing in January's transfer window.
The official attendance was announced as 47,427 and Newcastle's average home attendance this season is 50,834.
Protestors were hoping up to 16,000 fans would not attend Sunday's game and there were numerous empty seats at the 52,387-capacity stadium.
Fan-run website ashleyout.com said 20,000 leaflets explaining details of the protest would be handed out in the hour before kick-off.

Wouldn't surprise me. My mouse is shit.

Looked lower than that to me in images I've seen, although it looked fuller at the start.

Absolutely deluded if they think 16'000 would boycott. Imagine if you had a ticket and didn't want to go and didn't give it to a mate, because you wanted to boycott instead.

A lot more people there than in the all important cup games that people feel so passionate about. The cup games you dream about.

I'm guessing 16,000 was a fantasy target more drawn out of hope than expectation. But it was definitely more than 5,000, as the club said it was. The only way to know for sure is to make an FOI request to the police's turnstile counters, which I'm presuming someone from local/national media will be doing eventually.

But at the least, the aim was presumably to get people talking about the current situation at the club by virtue of doing stunts like this. Sky, BBC and all the national newspapers have talked about the boycott and by association the issue they're boycotting for, and some big pundits have been on the sympathetic side. So for them, it's presumably worked.

A much more accurate look at the finances - than the mainstream football press has published.

Newcastle's problems still arise from the issue of being unable to increase commercial revenue.

The 'mystery' rise in expenses is increased wage budget and amortisation. Completely forgot about the bonuses paid for top ten tbh.

Aye read that this morning. Was an interesting read, although I'm pretty sure we're missing out on commercial revenue by the club retail arm and associated revenues being swallowed up by Sports Direct. SD is clearly a problem, as is USC - those two companies are getting millions in free advertising because of a certain M. Ashley. Puma is also reportedly getting a deal on the cheap. Which leaves us with wonga, who are apparently not doing so well financially and may walk away.

Meanwhile, there's a claim the attendance at the NUFC-Spurs game was barely higher than 30,000. I think its clear it wasn't the 47,400 Newcastle claimed it was, and might rival the club's lowest Premier League-era attendance (41,053, according to nufc.com), but not sure if it was that low.

There's rumours going round this morning that we've offered John Carver the head coach role permanently

Relegation next year if true.

Also highlights how far backwards we've went since Ashley arrived.

So I've heard. If that's true that is possibly the fucking worst decision possible.

The reaction of this is depressing, from Sunderland fans blindly defending him to Newcastle fans attempting some sort of moral high ground.

And weirdly twitter's reaction of blaming the girl. Why has everyone decided this happened in a nightclub?

The grooming charge fits with the story told in the snapchat message.

There's been no evidence of a nightclub involved - or which nightclub. It's weird apologist bollocks of defending him. It's not even Sunderland fans which would be at least understandable.

I just put in Twitter 'Adam Johnson nightclub' And there is loads of tweets claiming she should be sent to jail. And a lot of tweets saying 'what was he supposed to do' like men can't take any personal responsibility or agency on the matter.

The grooming charge does kill the nightclub argument but it's a weird one anyway.

Looks like a rapist anyway.
