I know that, I'm just saying that it's a strange decision given that the only reason they took it out was to make the thing look a bit better at the front.

Also, the fact they put laptop-grade parts into it is ridiculous.

Yes, but around 40% of Ireland doesn't actually have broadband.

When the floppy was removed, there was alternatives. While the DVD might be dying, Blu-Ray still needs an optical drive.

Other All-In-One computers don't cost over €1500 for the basic models.

The Fusion Drive feature on the iMacs is very impressive, I have to admit but making it a bit thinner and removing an optical drive doesn't justify the price (compared to previous models)

Maybe im just being flippant but if you dont have broadband then chances are you wouldn't be buying a iMac anyway.

Im not saying a question of money but most people who buy the new iMac are going to be the usual lot who buy them (designers, photographers etc) and they dont tend to be based in rural Ireland.

There's also plenty of other options out there for people who need an optical drive desperately.

I've just finished a 4 years bachelors degree in Computing, and 3/4 of my class didn't have access to broadband, so you may be surprised

Yes they will and they have, cos our course has 6 months of work placement included which for 90% of the class meant a job straight out of college. IT jobs is one of the areas were Ireland is actually doing really well

Should be ordering the 15-inch: 2.6GHz MacBook next week. Local store are doing 6 months interest free thenn can pay it off or do installments.

I updated for the first time in ages the other day and ever since my mac hasn't shut up about the cloud.

I'm going to get seriously irritated by it, I have no need for cloud computing and it's annoying it's spamming me about it.

Possibly, I didn't end up buying one.

At £2 it's probably worth a try and if it doesn't work I'm sure they'll take it back.

Do their job very quickly and professionally.

Took my laptop in with an issue with the screen, they had it fixed and returned within 3 hours.

That's extremely good service. Unfortunately I've had terrible service from them.

I think I posted on here when my hard-drive failed, took them 3 weeks to fix it. Then when I bought my new phone, the 4s I think it was it didn't work, you couldn't hear people when they rang and they wanted to give me a refurbished phone, this was 24 hours after I'd bought the fucking thing!!!

Yeah they can do that if it the phone you're bringing back is beyond the 90 day warranty according to the ombudsman | fair trading out here. In the end I kept my phone that didn't work, got onto the ombudsman | fair trading and had a brand new phone within three days, I also got to keep the faulty phone which after it was dropped one day actually started working perfectly.

Took it into the Apple store here in Brisbane, they're pretty bad, every time I've been in I've had issues, with the iMac when the hard-drive failed and with the phone issue.

Odd, my hard drive packed in a year ago (in fairness, I fucked it up more than it was itself trying to fix it) not only did they recover it but they replaced the old one and transferred the data across to a new one on the grounds that they might as well.

I had all my shit on an external hard-drive so didn't need it shifted across, which they would have done and I was very appreciative when they offered. What pissed me off was my hard-drive failed within I think about 12 weeks after I'd bought it and when I asked what they could do for me to compensate me because their product was faulty and I had to wait an unknown period of time for them to order a hard-drive I was told to piss off basically.

In the end they lied to me about my iMac being seen and fixed, it took them 3 or 4 weeks to get a new hard-drive and in the end I got the Apple Care for free because of all that hassle. So in the end it was good, but it shouldn't have gone on that long and the same with the phone!!

EDIT: Oh and it also turned out in the end that the hard-drives from that batch of iMacs were indeed faulty.

Hmm, I wonder what took them so long to do it. It's been virtually painless every time I've had to go in.

Still, Applecare is no small victory. That costs about £60 here, and I've saved about £300 from having it.
