Tottenham Hotspur came from behind tonight against Columbus Crew to record their third successive pre season victory with substitute Clint Dempsey scoring the winner with just four minutes remaining.

Spurs maintained their 100% start to their pre season campaign with a 2-1 win over Columbus Crew earlier tonight. The North London club beat the Portland Timbers 2-1 in their opening game of their American tour and they recorded the same result tonight at the Columbus Crew Stadium as they came from behind to win.

The hosts got off to the perfect start as they took an unexpected lead, a loose pass from Kyle Naughton not controlled well by the experienced William Gallas and Emilio Renteria took full advantage as he stole possession in a dangerous position, the Columbian striker taking full advantage as he smashed the ball beyond Brad Friedel.

Spurs almost responded immediately when Gareth Bale found space to shoot, the Welsh international denied by Steven Cuero who got down well to his left to make a save. The Columbus Crew goalkeeper was busy again as he pushed away a stinging effort from Tom Huddlestone as the North London club searched for an equalizer.

Despite their first half domination Spurs went in at the break trailing, Andre Villas-Boas requiring a second half turnaround from his players to avoid an embarrassing defeat at the hands of their less illustrious MLS opponents. The Portuguese boss made a single change at the break as William Gallas was replaced by Jan Vertonghen.

Spurs were almost immediately level following the resumption of play, a low cross from Jermain Defoe finding its way to the back post, winger Aaron Lennon tapping the ball home from about six yards out. As the game went on it appeared likely that things would finish level, but American international Clint Dempsey was on hand to blast home from the edge of the area with just four minutes remaining, striker Danny Graham watching as his effort was blocked by Kieren Butcher, Dempsey firing the rebound hard into the bottom corner to seal a Spurs victory.

The North London club will wrap up their American tour when they face the San Jose Earthquakes in seven days.

Spurs will then return back to England to prepare for their opening day Premier League fixture against Norwich City at Carrow Road, both Andre Villas-Boas and Chris Hughton set to take charge of their first competitive fixtures at their new clubs since their summer appointments.

We're going along nicely, playing some good football and once we start taking our chances we'll record big wins. I rate him, he's definitely a very good player and once he's stay fit I'm sure he'll play a lot of games.

Hugo Lloris relishing Premier League challenge

http://i1259.photobucket.com/albums/ii557/khronaldo89/Spurs/1.png

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris says he's relishing the challenge that the Premier League will offer following his £9 million summer transfer from French side Olympique Lyonnais.

Spurs beat rivals Arsenal to the signing of French international Hugo Lloris, the North London club completing a £9 million deal for the goalkeeper during the summer, the 25 year old leaving French side Olympique Lyonnais after four seasons at the club, Lloris making 144 league appearances for the French giants.

The goalkeeper was highly sought after during the summer with reports linking various clubs including Arsenal and Champions League winners Chelsea with a move for the French international. In the end Spurs sealed a deal to bring Lloris to White Hart Lane and he is expected to become the clubs first choice goalkeeper ahead of Brad Friedel and Carlo Cudicini, Lloris ready and excited about the challenge the Premier League will present.

"The Premier League is one of the best leagues in the world, it's exciting and extremely competitive, that's what makes it such an amazing product. I can't wait for the season to begin, I've worked hard to impress the new manager and to become a better player during the summer," said Lloris.

"I want to play as much as I can for Spurs, but that will be hard because there are two very good goalkeepers at the club who also want to play every game. Whatever happens I'm excited and ready for the challenges of playing in the Premier League, hopefully I can be successful," added the French international.

Spurs will start their Premier League campaign against Norwich City on the opening day of the Premier League season at Carrow Road and Lloris is confident they can get off to a good start.

"The opening day of the season can always be difficult," says the 25 year old.

"Hopefully our preparation during pre season can give us an edge, we've worked hard on our fitness and the staff hope that we'll be ready for the entire season from the first game. Sometimes teams take a few games to get going, but a club with ambition like Spurs can't afford to drop many points. I'm confident we can get a good result against Norwich though because we have many good players in our squad," added Lloris.

The North London club have won all three of their pre season games to date and will wrap up their American tour when they face the San Jose Earthquakes in six days at the Buck Shaw Stadium in Santa Clara, California.

Friedel hoping to challenge Lloris for first team place

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Brad Friedel says he hopes new manager Andre Villas-Boas will give him the opportunity to challenge summer signing Hugo Lloris despite the American being 41 years old.

Brad Friedel began his Premier League journey when he joined Liverpool way back in 2007 and not even the American would have dreamed that he would still be playing top flight football at the age of 41.

After 438 Premier League appearances the 41 year old is still going strong and for the last eight seasons the goalkeeper hasn't missed a Premier League game. Friedel has played for Liverpool, Blackburn Rovers, Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur during his 15 year spell in England's top flight.

The Americans position as the number one goalkeeper at White Hart Lane however is under threat following the summer arrival of 25 year old shot stopper Hugo Lloris. Spurs paid £9 million to secure the French international and it's widely expected that Lloris will be the first choice goalkeeper under new manager Andre Villas-Boas.

Despite his advancing years and the arrival of Lloris the American is confident of challenging for a place in the Spurs starting lineup, the 41 year old hoping to prove to manager Andre Villas-Boas that he still has what it takes with Spurs opening day Premier League fixture against Norwich City at Carrow Road approaching fast.

"The arrival of Hugo is great for the club, he's a world class goalkeeper, one of the worlds best. In saying that I'm not going to simply step aside and let him play each week, I'm up for the challenge," said Friedel.

"Hopefully I can prove to the manager that I still have what it takes despite my age," added the American.

Tottenham belong in top four says Dempsey

American international Clint Dempsey may have only joined Tottenham Hotspur during the summer when he left Fulham but the 29 year old midfielder is adamant that the club belong in the top four.

Spurs have finished fourth in the Premier League twice in the last three seasons and summer signing Clint Dempsey firmly believes that the North London club belong alongside the likes of Manchester United.

Dempsey, 29, left Fulham during the summer for a fee of £6 million, the midfielder scoring 17 times last season in the Premier League for the Cottagers. The American international won't be alone at White Hart Lane, former Fulham team-mate Mousa Dembele also leaving Craven Cottage for the North London club during the summer.

With the club set to play their final pre season game against the San Jose Earthquakes in just four days time and their opening day Premier League fixture against Norwich City just 11 days away the midfielder has told Fox News in an exclusive interview that Spurs fans are right to expect a top four finish in the Premier League.

"Spurs are a top club in England now, we should be competing with the very best and the fans are right to expect a top four finish. It's disappointing we won't be playing in the Champions League, but we should look to win the Europa League, it's still a very important competition that many sides would like to win," said Dempsey.

"We belong alongside the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City and Chelsea, added the American.

Defoe hopes to finish career at White Hart Lane

Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe wants to finish his career at the club and says he has hopes that the club can challenge the likes of Manchester United and Manchester City for the Premier League title.

Spurs striker Jermain Defoe has spoken of his desire to see out his career at White Hart Lane.

"I want to finish my career at Spurs, I know that's what I want to do and hopefully that can happen. This club is only going to become bigger over the next few years and it's a dream to be a part of that," said Defoe.

Defoe, 29, has made 228 Premier League appearances for the North London club scoring 79 times.

The striker joined Spurs back in February of 2004 in a deal worth £7 million and he spent more than four seasons at White Hart Lane before he left for Portsmouth. The strikers stay at Fratton Park was short lived however and after just two seasons he returned to Spurs, costing the club a whooping £15 million.

With the new Premier League season fast approaching the 29 year old revealed he's dreaming of Premier League success, the striker adamant that the North London club aren't far off league champions Manchester City.

"As I've said this club is going to improve in the next few years, I've no doubt about that and I think we can challenge for the Premier League this season. The likes of Manchester United and Manchester City will obviously be favourites, but I don't think they're that far ahead of us, we can compete with them," said the striker.

"The Premier League is a marathon, not a sprint, we'll need some luck along the way with results and injuries, I think that's universally accepted as fact in professional football by everybody," added the 29 year old.

Defoe has made 48 appearances for England and the Spurs striker has scored 18 times for the Three Lions, his debut against Sweden coming some eight years ago under then manager Sven-Goran Eriksson.

Gallas wants new contract talks to begin

Tottenham Hotspur defender William Gallas has called upon manager Andre Villas-Boas and the club to open up new contract negotiations as soon as possible as he enters the last year of his current deal.

At 34 years of age William Gallas is entering the final years of his professional career and the former French international is hoping that his final contract will be at White Hart Lane.

Gallas has publicly called on Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas to open up new contract negotiations as he enters the final year of his current deal that runs out next summer. The defender has played in the Premier League for three clubs, the 34 year old playing for Chelsea and Arsenal before joining Spurs on a free transfer in 2010.

"I hope to finish my career at Spurs because it's a great club," said Gallas.

"All I can do is say I want to stay and wait for the club to speak with me about a new contract. I hope that the new manager wants me at the club, I've got a lot of experience and accept I won't play every game, although I still feel I can contribute a lot when called upon to do a job for this great club," added the 34 year old.

Gallas has made 42 Premier League appearances for Spurs since his arrival in 2010.

Villas-Boas contemplating Aleksandar Kolarov bid

Out of favour Manchester City defender Aleksandar Kolarov is reportedly a transfer target for new Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas as he looks to add to his squad at White Hart Lane.

The Sun are reporting that Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas is set to offer Manchester City defender Aleksandar Kolarov a way out from his Etihad Stadium hell in a deal that could cost the North London club £8 million.

Sources close to the 26 year old say the Serbian international is not happy with having appeared in only 12 Premier League games last season for the champions, the left back finding his first team opportunities limited during his second season at the club as manager Roberto Mancini preferred Pablo Zabaleta at left back.

Kolarov made 24 Premier League appearances in his first season at City following a £19 million move from Serie A side Lazio and the 26 year old has three years remaining on his £65,000 a week contract at the Etihad Stadium.

Cameroon international Benoit Assou-Ekotto is currently the only recognized left back at White Hart Lane although Jan Vertonghen, William Gallas and Kyle Naughton all have experience of playing at left back. It's believed that Villas-Boas wants to ensure he has plenty of options to cover all positions at the North London club and that may lead him to swoop for the 26 year old Serbian international who looks set to leave Manchester City this summer.

Tottenham Hotspur endured a frustrating evening against the San Jose Earthquakes as the final game of their pre season American tour ended in a disappointing 1-1 draw at the Buck Shaw Stadium.

Spurs finished their pre season preparations in frustrating style this evening, the North London side dominating in their clash against the San Jose Earthquakes at the Buck Shaw Stadium, the hosts somehow managing to secure a 1-1 draw despite the Premier League side dominating proceedings.

Andre Villas-Boas had enjoyed a stress free summer as he watched his Spurs side beat Leyton Orient, Portland Timbers and Columbus Crew in their previous pre season games.

When Togolese striker Emmanuel Adebayor scored two minutes before half time it appeared likely that Spurs would record their fourth consecutive pre season victory, the striker rising high to head home a Clint Dempsey cross on the stroke of half time.

The hosts had been second best throughout and had failed to test Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris throughout the first half, but the French international was beaten just moments into the second half, a poor clearance from Younes Kaboul intercepted by Niall Buchholz who played a perfect pass into the path of Mason Rudolph who made no mistake, the 24 year old clinically dispatching the ball high into the roof of the Spurs net.

In the end Spurs were unable to find the breakthrough, their MLS opponents holding on to record a confidence boosting draw, Villas-Boas now left with the task of restoring his players confidence after their finishing let them down against the San Jose Earthquakes, the Portuguese manager left with just seven days to iron out the issues before his sides opening day Premier League clash against Norwich City at Carrow Road.

Spurs may have some injury concerns to contend with ahead of the opening day fixture at Carrow Road.

Both Younes Kaboul and Emmanuel Adebayor may miss the clash due to groin and thigh strains respectively, midfielder Scott Parker certainly ruled out as he continues his rehabilitation following minor surgery to help with an achilles tendon injury that had kept him out of the clubs final few games last season.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has received bad news after French international Younes Kaboul was ruled out of his sides opening day Premier League fixture against Norwich City after he suffered a groin strain during a training session ahead of his countries upcoming friendly against Mexico.

Spurs defender Younes Kaboul will miss approximately two weeks of football after he suffered a grade one groin strain during a training session earlier today. The injury took place as France manager Didier Deschamps put his players through their paces in preparation for their friendly against Mexico.

Kaboul, 26, was expected to partner either Jan Vertonghen or Michael Dawson in the centre of the Spurs defence when they make the trip to face Norwich City at Carrow Road on the opening day of the Premier League season.

A short statement released by the French Football Federation stated that Kaboul would return to his club after picking up a minor injury, the defender missing out on the opportunity to add to his five caps.

When asked about the news Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas refused to criticize the French setup, however he did admit that the 26 year old defender could also miss his clubs clash with West Ham United at White Hart Lane on the 25 August, the defender likely to be available again for selection in September.

Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of Manchester City defender Aleksandar Kolarov for a fee believed to be in the region of £8 million after the 26 year old passed a medical at White Hart Lane.

Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini has wished defender Aleksandar Kolarov all the best after he signed a four year contract with Spurs in a deal worth a reported £8 million. It's believed the 26 year old had asked for the move after he only made 12 Premier League appearances last season for the champions.

The Serbian international had three years remaining on his contract at the Etihad Stadium.

It has been reported that Spurs have paid £8 million to make the deal happen, Kolarov believed to have signed a four year contract worth £80,000 a week, the defender eligible to make his debut for the North London club against Norwich City at Carrow Road on Saturday as the Premier League season kicks off.

Kolarov will find himself battling against Benoit Assou-Ekotto who is regarded as Spurs first choice left back, although Jan Vertonghen and William Gallas also have experience playing in that position.

Tottenham Hotspur striker Emmanuel Adebayor will miss the clubs opening day Premier League clash against Norwich City after he was injured whilst captaining his country Togo to a 3-1 victory over Chad.

Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas will be without striker Emmanuel Adebayor for his sides opening day Premier League clash against Norwich City at Carrow Road after the striker suffered a thigh strain as Togo recorded a comfortable 3-1 victory over Chad last night in a friendly.

Adebayor, 28, joined Spurs during the summer as he ended his three year association with Manchester City, the striker costing the club £5 million after impressing whilst on loan at White Hart Lane last season.

The striker scored 17 Premier League goals in 33 appearances last season.

Now he will join defender Younes Kaboul in the treatment room, the French international injured during a training session whilst preparing for his countries friendly clash against Mexico.

The pair have been ruled out of the clubs opening day Premier League clash against Norwich City at Carrow Road and are unlikely to return for the clash against West Ham United at White Hart Lane on the 25 August.

Adebayor has made 43 appearances for Togo scoring 19 times.

We're the underdogs says Norwich City boss

Norwich City may have home advantage tomorrow when they face Tottenham Hotspur on the opening day of the new Premier League season but they're still the underdogs according to manager Chris Hughton.

The former Irish international who spent 14 years at White Hart Lane as a player and a further 14 in various coaching roles has labelled his former employers as the favourites ahead of his sides opening day Premier League clash at Carrow Road with the North London club.

"They're certainly the favourites and rightly so, look at their squad and you'd expect them to give the very best in this league a run for their money, we're the underdogs," said Hughton.

"In saying that we'll go into the game tomorrow confident in our ability to get a result after working hard during the summer. I feel we're right for the start of the season and although we're the underdogs we have a good chance of getting something from the game," added the 53 year old.

Spurs will be missing Scott Parker, Younes Kaboul and Emmanuel Adebayor due to injury but the Norwich City boss believes the North London side have plenty of options despite missing the important trio.

"Obviously any club would prefer to have those lads fit, that goes without saying and you can understand why Andre Villas-Boas may feel unhappy that they'll miss this game, two of the three were injured on international duty and the games were just friendlies, so you can understand," said the Norwich City boss.

"In saying that Spurs have a lot of players who can step up to cover those absences," added Hughton.

Andre Villas-Boas got off to a winning start as Tottenham Hotspur manager today as the North London side comfortably beat Norwich City 2-0 in their opening day Premier League clash at Carrow Road.

Life for Spurs under Portuguese manager Andre Villas-Boas has begun in the best possible fashion after the North London club recorded a comfortable 2-0 win over Norwich City today at Carrow Road, new Canaries boss Chris Hughton not enjoying his managerial debut at Carrow Road as goals from Aaron Lennon and Danny Graham gave the visitors a deserved win, the North London club sitting top of the table at the end of the day.

It's likely that Spurs won't finish top of the Premier League come the final day of the season in May but the performance under Villas-Boas was encouraging and fans may begin to expect that their side can finish inside the top three and with it avoid the disappointment of missing out on Champions League football should another English side follow in the footsteps of Chelsea and win the competition like the Blues did last season.

That triumph in Munich sealed Champions League football for Roberto Di Matteo's side at the expense of Spurs who will now compete in the Europa League this season, that setback leading to the dismissal of manager Harry Redknapp, although it had appeared likely that Redknapp would leave for the vacant England post following the resignation of Fabio Capello, the vacancy eventually filled by West Brom boss Roy Hodgson.

It may be true that Villas-Boas has inherited a good Spurs side after Redknapp's reign but the Portuguese boss has already brought in many players of his own and it seems he's changed the way the North London club play.

Norwich City boss Chris Hughton had labelled Spurs as favourites prior to the game and following the opening half hour at Carrow Road you couldn't argue with that assessment.

The hosts had created their best chance of the game in the opening five minutes, a soft free kick was conceded by Jan Vertonghen as Canaries captain Grant Holt fell easily to the ground under a challenge from the Belgian, the resulting free kick from Jonny Howson flashing wide of Hugo Lloris left post.

It was all Spurs from that point on and had Jermain Defoe brought his shooting boots the game could have been over within the opening 20 minutes. The visitors looked set to take the lead just shy of the half hour when Tom Huddlestone forced John Ruddy into a stunning save, the goalkeeper managing to divert the Spurs midfielders effort onto his crossbar before the rebound was cleared off the line by Alexander Tettey.

That save from Ruddy only delayed the inevitable as Spurs took the lead some five minutes later, a fantastic run by Gareth Bale was picked out by Brazilian midfielder Sandro and when the Welsh international drove a low cross across the hosts penalty area there was only one outcome when Aaron Lennon got across former Spurs defender Sebastien Bassong, the English winger finishing well with a powerful first time effort.

Spurs continued to control proceedings before the half time interval, although they found it hard to break down the hosts who looked content with making sure the visitors lead stayed at 1-0.

The second half saw Chris Hughton attempt to change things as he withdrew Jonny Howson for Richard Surman, the change having no effect as Villas-Boas watched his side dominated proceedings.

The game should have been over by the hour mark but Defoe was finding it difficult to hit the target.

There was an opening day debut for Danny Graham when he replaced Defoe and it took the £7 million summer signing just four minutes to open up his Spurs account, the assist again coming from Bale, the 27 year old striker belting home a rebound after his initial effort had been kept out by the impressive Ruddy.

In the end Spurs got the victory their performance had deserved, new manager Andre Villas-Boas enjoying the perfect beginning at the North London club whilst Chris Hughton must regroup and restore his troops confidence ahead of their next Premier League clash against West Brom next week at the Hawthorns.

Tottenham Hotspur winger Aaron Lennon has stated that the clubs opening day Premier League victory over Norwich City was fully deserved following their impressive display yesterday at Carrow Road.

Spurs started the new Premier League season with an impressive display against Norwich City yesterday at Carrow Road and the North London club got their just reward according to winger Aaron Lennon as they recorded a 2-0 win in what was Andre Villas-Boas first competitive fixture as Spurs boss since his summer appointment.

"We deserved the win yesterday, there is no doubt about that, we dominated the game throughout and I honestly think we could have scored a few more goals on another day," said the Spurs winger.

Lennon netted the first goal on the half hour mark as he latched onto a low cross from Gareth Bale and the winger said he's been working hard on his finishing in an attempt to find the net more often.

"To score on the opening day of the season is great, it's a real confidence booster for me personally and hopefully I'll contribute a few more times over the course of the season. I've been working hard on improving in front of goal because I've not scored enough goals, but hopefully I'll change that this season," added Lennon.

The 25 year old joined Spurs back in 2005 for just £1 million, the winger sold off cheaply as Leeds United suffered their now infamous financial meltdown following years of financial mismanagement. The winger has gone on to make 197 Premier League appearances for the North London club scoring 22 times. Lennon has been capped 19 times by England following his debut against Jamaica in 2006 and the winger is yet to score for the Three Lions.

Lennon signed a new four year deal last month that will keep him at White Hart Lane until June 2016.

Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has revealed that he's only focussed on winning trophies at White Hart Lane and he believes current boss Andre Villas-Boas is the man to help deliver them.

The French international made his Spurs debut against Norwich City at Carrow Road last Saturday and the 25 year old kept a clean sheet as the North London club recorded a comfortable 2-0 win, goals from Aaron Lennon and debutant Danny Graham sealing the victory for manager Andre Villas-Boas on his competitive debut as Spurs boss.

Lloris joined Spurs during the summer for a a fee of almost £9 million as he left Olympique Lyonnais after four years at the Stade de Gerland in which he made 144 Ligue One appearances for the French side.

Although his career at White Hart Lane has only begun the 25 year old shot stopper has revealed he hopes to win a lot of silverware with Spurs and has backed current boss Andre Villas-Boas to help deliver them.

"This club has good players and a good setup, we can win against the best and I hope we'll win many trophies during my time here. Every player wants to win trophies and I'm no different," declared Lloris.

"Our manager is a very confident guy, with good ideas and he has some fresh approaches to training, everybody enjoys training and the team is confident we can win regardless of our opponents. I think the boss is the right man for the job and despite his age I think he'll help us win many trophies here," added the French international.

Lloris has been capped on 38 occasions by France following his debut against Uruguay in 2008 and he was named captain by former manager Laurent Blanc prior to Euro 2012. New manager Didier Deschamps has insisted that the goalkeeper will remain as skipper as long as he's in charge of Les Bleus.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has confirmed that midfielder Mousa Dembele will miss the clubs Premier League clash with West Ham United tomorrow at White Hart Lane due to injury.

The Belgian midfielder has been ruled out for roughly two to three weeks after he strained a shoulder muscle during training earlier today and a statement on the clubs official website confirmed that the £15 million summer signing will miss the clubs Premier League clash with West Ham United tomorrow at White Hart Lane.

Dembele made his debut for Spurs last Saturday at Carrow Road as the North London club beat Norwich City, the 25 year old coming off the bench to replace Tom Huddlestone with 19 minutes remaining.

Spurs boss Andre Vilas-Boas confirmed at his pre match press conference that the creative midfielder would miss the clubs Premier League clash with West Ham United tomorrow at White Hart Lane due to the shoulder injury.

"Tomorrow we will be without Mousa after he hurt his shoulder in the gym," stated Villas-Boas.

"According to the medical staff he's looking at a fortnight out, maybe longer depending on how the injury responds to treatment, but he will definitely not play tomorrow against West Ham which is disappointing because it would have been his home debut in front of our fantastic fans," added the Spurs boss.

Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United played out a dire goalless draw at White Hart Lane in the Premier League this evening as neither side hit the target in a game that produced a total of just four shots.

Neutrals viewers who watched Spurs face West Ham at White Hart Lane this afternoon would have been far from entertained after the two sides played out a dire 0-0 draw in this Premier League clash.

Both sides came into this game on the back of impressive opening day victories, Spurs confident following their comfortable 2-0 win over Norwich City at Carrow Road, a lot more expected from the Hammers after they beat Liverpool 2-0 at Upton Park, this clash between the local rivals failing to deliver the expected fireworks.

The best chance of the game fell to Clint Dempsey after 15 minutes, the American international rattling the crossbar with a powerful header after he rose high to meet a dangerous Gareth Bale cross.

Unfortunately for the fans at White Hart Lane that was as exciting as this contest got, neither side managing to hit the target throughout the course of the game, goalkeepers Hugo Lloris and Jussi Jaaskelainen untested over the course of the 90 minutes, the Hammers happy to absorb the pressure Spurs mounted.

Whilst the result won't please the home fans or Andre Villas-Boas the nature of their performance will as the hosts enjoyed the majority of the possession and looked like the only team capable of claiming victory.

A stunning performance from Winston Reid at the back for the visitors was the only real reason why Spurs failed to break down the Hammers, the New Zealand international well placed when needed to break up attacks and cut out dangerous crosses, the 24 year old named the man of the match at White Hart Lane.

Even the introduction of Gylfi Sigurdsson and Danny Graham off the substitutes bench with just under a half hour remaining couldn't inspire Spurs to victory, the hosts frustrated as Hammers boss Sam Allardyce got his tactics right at White Hart Lane, both sides yet to concede a goal this season in the Premier League.

Cheers man, glad you're enjoying it.

We should have beaten West Ham, but they just defended really well I guess, but oh well onto the next game.

Only one team played football says Kyle Walker

Tottenham Hotspur defender Kyle Walker has revealed that he believes that West Ham United didn't try play football at White Hart Lane yesterday as the sides drew 0-0 in their Premier League clash.

West Ham United may have picked up a point at White Hart Lane yesterday as they held Spurs to a 0-0 draw in their Premier League clash but right back Kyle Walker who played the entire game against the Hammers has boldly declared that only one side played football yesterday at White Hart Lane.

The Spurs defender was adamant his side did all they could to try break down their rivals, a stubborn rearguard display by the Hammers frustrating Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas and his side as the game ended goalless.

"Yesterday was frustrating for the fans and you can only blame one side for that," said Walker.

"All I really have to say is one side wanted to play football and one was happy not playing football, we didn't expect such negative tactics. The manager was still happy with our performance though and how we dominated the game from start to finish, unfortunately we couldn't get the winner," added the Spurs right back.

Following the 0-0 draw West Ham United boss Sam Allardyce praised his sides commitment and their bravery as they hung on despite Spurs dominating proceedings throughout the Premier League clash at White Hart Lane.

"I'm delighted we got the point because I think we deserved it after the performance the boys produced. It wasn't our best performance, far from it and I won't say otherwise but we faced a very difficult Spurs side today. We knew we'd be in for a long day and we might have to defend with our backs to the wall," said Allardyce.

"When we needed to be brave we were brave and I applaud the lads for that," added the Hammers boss.

Gareth Bale happy with start to Premier League season

Tottenham Hotspur star Gareth Bale says he's happy with how the North London club have begun the new Premier League season and the winger believes he and his team-mates have room for further improvement.

Four points from their opening two games leaves Spurs sitting in seventh spot in the Premier League, the North London side perhaps unlucky not to have beaten West Ham United last Saturday when the pair played out a 0-0 draw at White Hart Lane, a 2-0 victory over Norwich City on the opening day fully deserved.

Spurs winger Gareth Bale says he's happy with the start the club have made to the season, the Welsh international revealing that he and his team-mates have more room for improvement as the season progresses.

"The start to the season has been good for us and importantly we've played some really good football. Obviously we would have loved to have won the game at home last weekend against West Ham but the performance was encouraging and it's always difficult to break down teams when they're happy to defend deep," said Bale.

"I still feel we've got more to give as well, we can improve and as a professional footballer you always need to be focussed on getting better, you can never be content with what you've achieved, I'm learning new things every day and I really think we've got what it takes to challenge the best," added the 23 year old.

Bale who has become a household name is one of Europe's hottest young talents and has been linked with a move to the likes of Manchester United, Manchester City, Barcelona and Real Madrid, speculation the Welsh international rejects swiftly whilst confirming he's committed to the North London club.

"To be honest I don't even think about all those transfer rumours and I don't pay much attention to what is being said in the media. I'm happy at Spurs and I've a contract here until 2016 and as I said I'm very happy at White Hart Lane. All I'm focussed on is doing well with Spurs and Wales," declared Bale.

Capital One Cup is important says Andre Villas-Boas

Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has rejected claims that the Capital One Cup isn't important to bigger clubs in the Premier League after the draw for the third round was made today.

Spurs will face Reading in the next round of this seasons Capital One Cup after the draw was made for the third round earlier today, the sides set to meet on the 25 September at White Hart Lane.

The draw was favourable for Spurs as they'll be expected to overcome the Royals and book their place in the fourth round, Villas-Boas rejecting claims that the competition isn't regarded highly amongst the Premier Leagues elite, the prize of silverware and European football enticing for every team in the Portuguese managers opinion.

"I think that is wrong, I don't think teams like Liverpool or Arsenal approach this competition differently to the likes of Reading, Southampton or say West Ham. All the teams want to win silverware and the Capital One Cup offers you a place in the Europa League so everybody wants to win it," said the Spurs boss.

"For me this competition is important and I want to win it," added Villas-Boas.

"Reading will prove difficult opponents and we must play well to advance, however I know the quality of our team is good so if we execute our game plan and play the way I know we can then we'll have a great chance of beating Reading at home when we play them next month," declared the 34 year old.

Newly promoted Reading lost 4-3 in a thrilling Premier League clash against Newcastle United on the opening day of the season before they bounced back last weekend with a 3-1 win over QPR at the Madejski Stadium. The Royals needed extra time to overcome Nottingham Forest in the last round of the Capital One Cup, striker Pavel Pogrebnyak scoring the all important winner as Brian McDermott's side avoided a shock defeat at the City Ground.

Tottenham Hotspur get tough Europa League group

Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has admitted that his side must perform well at home and away to advance from their Europa League group after the draw for the group stages in Monaco paired the North London club with AZ Alkmaar, Hannover 96 and Dinamo Moscow in Group H.

Exactly 48 teams now know their fate following the completion of the Europa League group stage draw in Monaco, holders Atletico Madrid drawn alongside Bayern Leverkusen, Anji Makhachkala and BATE Borisov.

Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas was handed a tough group by the draw as the North London club were paired with AZ Alkmaar, Hannover 96 and Dinamo Moscow in Group H. The Spurs boss feels his side will have to perform well at home and on the road to advance from the tricky group, the 34 year old telling reporters that he is aiming to win the competition he won with FC Porto in 2011 with the North London club.

"The group is tough, very tough and in Europe there are no easy games. I know we'll need to play well at home and away from White Hart Lane to progress to the next stage of the Europa League," said Villas-Boas.

"We haven't won this competition since 1984 and I hope to change that," added the Spurs boss.

The fixture list could assist Spurs as they face AZ Alkmaar in Holland in their first Group H fixture before hosting Hannover 96 and Dinamo Moscow at White Hart Lane. The North London club will then head to the Russian capital for the reverse fixture against the Russian side before they face AZ Alkmaar at home and Hannover 96 away, positive results in the clubs two home games against Hannover 96 and Dinamo Moscow crucial for Spurs.

Spurs will now turn their attention to their Premier League clash with Fulham at Craven Cottage on Sunday.
