Tottenham Hotspur will feel hard done by after Wigan Athletic snatched a late point at White Hart Lane despite the North London club enjoying large periods of domination during their Premier League clash.

Spurs dropped out of the top four in the Premier League this afternoon as a late goal from Mauro Boselli cancelled out Jermain Defoe's first strike since mid September to give the Latics a share of the spoils at White Hart Lane.

Both goals came in the second half, Defoe netting the opener with only 11 minutes left to play, the Latics rallying late on, Boselli scoring with a fine volley with under a minute remaining in normal time and the four minutes that were added on for injury time weren't enough for Spurs to find away past Ali Al-Habsi again.

Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas was also handed injury concerns to go along with the disappointing draw after Scott Parker and Aaron Lennon hobbled off, the latter forced to leave the field of play with 19 minutes remaining due to a suspected rib fracture, the hosts forced to play out the remainder of this Premier League clash with only 10 men as they'd already used their three available substitutes.

The hosts brought their fine form from their midweek clash against Dinamo Moscow into this game, winger Gareth Bale heading against the bar after just three minutes to the dismay of the home crowd.

Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi was then forced to deny Aaron Lennon from close range as the winger raced towards goal after sprinting clear of Alvaro Alcaraz, the resulting corner headed just wide by Emmanuel Adebayor who was looking to add to the hat-trick he had scored midweek against Dinamo Moscow in the Europa League.

Spurs continued to dominate proceedings as the Latics found it impossible to handle Mousa Dembele, Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon, the trio creating chances at will, yet unfortunately for the hosts they found Al-Habsi in fine form, the Latics shot stopper superbly denying Adebayor and Spurs skipper Michael Dawson in quick succession.

At the half time interval things remained all square, the visitors clearly on the back foot and in need of inspiration as Spurs dominated first half proceedings at White Hart Lane. Both sides emerged unchanged for the second half and the opening few minutes passed without incident until midfielder Scott Parker pulled up injured clutching his left groin, the midfielder soon replaced by Brazilian international Sandro.

The loss of Parker seemed to stifle the hosts rhythm and they didn't look like breaking down the visitors, the Latics seemingly happy to settle for a point against a side that has looked like genuine title contenders under Andre Villas-Boas for the majority of the Premier League season since it started back in August.

With 23 minutes remaining Villas-Boas decided to make a double change by withdrawing Emmanuel Adebayor and Gylfi Sigurdsson for Jermain Defoe and Clint Dempsey respectively. Just three minutes after his introduction Dempsey could have broken the deadlock had he hit the target with his long range effort, Wigan Athletic goalkeeper Ali Al-Habsi a spectator as the Americans shot flashed wide of his left hand post.

A coming together between Aaron Lennon and left back Arthur Boka saw the England international come off worse, early reports suggesting the lively winger had suffered a rib fracture that could keep him sidelined for at least six weeks, the injury forcing Spurs to play the remaining 19 minutes with only 10 men.

Defoe soon struck with his third Premier League strike of the season after combining well with Dembele, the 30 year old striker smashing his effort beyond Al-Habsi to give the home side the lead. Unfortunately for Spurs the visitors weren't about to accept defeat without a fight and Boselli soon produced a superb volley that left Hugo Lloris with little chance, the Latics salvaging a draw when they had been outplayed in this Premier League clash.

Spurs had a late claim for a penalty waved away by referee Chris Foy, defender Jan Vertonghen booked for his protests, the Belgian international furious after he had been wrestled to the ground by Latics captain Gary Caldwell when Gareth Bale whipped in a corner kick deep into injury time, subsequent television replays proving inconclusive although Andre Villas-Boas was adamant in his post match interview that his side deserved an injury time penalty and said his side had been denied the chance to win the game by the match officials.

Really well written career and fantastic updates.

How have you been finding the fixture congestion with having to compete in the Europa League??

I just finished my first season with Tottenham and the fixtures became a joke in some months, even with a squad of 25/26 players.

Cheers mate

So far it's been fine but I'm only in November now and we've managed to avoid injuries really. I've been able to rotate the defenders and midfielders quite well at the moment without results being bad, so far so good I'd say and hopefully we can continue doing well over the next few months.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas could be without winger Aaron Lennon until the New Year after scans confirmed the England international had suffered a fractured rib against Wigan Athletic.

Spurs winger Aaron Lennon could be out of action until the New Year after suffering a fractured rib against Wigan Athletic yesterday at White Hart Lane. The news that the winger may be missing for almost two months won't please Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas, the 25 year old having been in fine form this season.

Lennon has scored four times in 12 appearances this season for the North London club.

The winger suffered the injury after a collision with left back Arthur Boka during Spurs 1-1 draw with Wigan Athletic yesterday at White Hart Lane, scans today revealing a fractured rib which will rule Lennon out for at least a month and means the winger is in real danger of missing Spurs games against Arsenal and Chelsea next month.

There was also bad news for Scott Parker, the midfielder today ruled out for a further three weeks following a groin strain, the 32 year old midfielder having only returned to first team action following an achilles injury.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas says he is happy with his sides recent performances despite seeing the North London club slip out of the top four in the Premier League last Sunday.

Spurs sit just outside the Premier Leagues top four with two games in hand over bitter rivals Arsenal who currently occupy fourth spot, although the Gunners only enjoy a two point advantage over Spurs.

Despite watching his side slip out of the top four on Sunday as Wigan Athletic striker Mauro Boselli scored a late equalizer at White Hart Lane, Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas says he's happy with his sides recent performances, the Portuguese manager again mentioning his sides undeserved exit from the Capital One Cup.

"I've been happy with our performances lately, I think we've been playing good football and have done very well in our games to dominate. The players are doing well and we continue to improve," said Villas-Boas.

"We need to stay alert until the game is over because we didn't do this against Wigan Athletic. We did this against Dinamo Moscow which seen us win 5-0, but for some reason we shut down on Sunday, it's disappointing. We have been in good form lately and I still think we deserved to stay in the Capital One Cup," added the Spurs boss.

The comments about Spurs undeserved Capital One Cup exit will only fuel the flames ahead of the North London clubs trip to the Britannia Stadium to face Stoke City this weekend. The pair sit in fifth and sixth place respectively in the Premier League level on points although Spurs enjoy a superior goal difference.

I think we should be able to get by if everybody else stays fit.

Dempsey can play on the right hand side and we've plenty of midfielders for the centre.

Can he? I knew he could play on the right but didn't think he'd be quite effective, I may have to trial him there and see how he performs. Worse case scenario is Clint Dempsey will be pushed out wide.

I only used him as a right midfielder, not an attacking right winger. He played about five or six matches due to injury problems and yeah he did well.

Champions League football is our aim - Dawson

Tottenham Hotspur captain Michael Dawson says the club is focussed on ensuring they qualify for next years Champions League after they narrowly missed out last season as Chelsea won the competition.

When experienced Chelsea striker Didier Drogba converted the winning penalty in last seasons Champions League final against Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena the Ivorian striker ripped Champions League football out of the hands of Spurs who had finished fourth in the Premier League, the Blues qualifying for the Champions League as winners, whilst Spurs were relegated to the Europa League to accommodate their rivals.

The North London club have recovered well and have started this season in fine form under new manager Andre Villas-Boas. Spurs have kept hot on the heels of Manchester United and Manchester City who lead the way in the Premier League. In their opening nine Premier League games Spurs have won five, drawn three and lost once.

Spurs skipper Michael Dawson revealed everyone at the club is focussed on qualifying for the Champions League.

"Qualifying for the Champions League is vital for a club like Spurs. We want to make sure we're playing in the biggest games against the biggest clubs and we're disappointed we didn't qualify last year. Obviously we did what we had to do and it wasn't enough because Chelsea went all the way and won the competition," said Dawson.

"Everyone at the club is focussed on that goal. Hopefully we can finish inside the top three and that will guarantee us Champions League football, that's the aim for us. Challenging for the title isn't out of the question but we know that would be very difficult over the course of the season because Manchester United and Manchester City have bigger squads with lots of experience and many world class players," added the Spurs captain.

Spurs travel to the Britannia Stadium on Saturday to face Stoke City in the Premier League and despite losing to the Potters in the Capital One Cup fourth round at White Hart Lane the Spurs skipper is adamant the squad aren't thinking about revenge, but simply thinking about picking up another Premier League victory.

Dawson, 28, has played every minute of Spurs nine Premier League games so far this season and has formed a formidable partnership with Belgian international Jan Vertonghen in the centre of the Spurs defence.

Ahead of his sides Premier League clash with Stoke City tomorrow Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has boldly predicted that his side will record a win at the Britannia Stadium.

Spurs go into their Premier League clash against Stoke City tomorrow at the Britannia Stadium as favourites and the North London clubs manager Andre Villas-Boas firmly believes his side will register their sixth league victory of the season against the Potters who knocked Spurs out of the Capital One Cup last month.

"Tomorrow we are favourites and we will win the game, I'm very confident of this because I know my players and I know what they can produce. I don't think our opponents tomorrow will be able to handle us and we will win this game. We have been playing good football and we will continue doing that," said Villas-Boas.

Villas-Boas has enjoyed his first few months at White Hart Lane since his summer appointment and has watched his side record 10 wins in 15 games in all competitions. The only defeats inflicted on Spurs have come at the hands of Premier League leaders Manchester United and the disappointing Capital One Cup exit against Stoke City.

The North London club and the Potters currently sit level on points occupying fifth and sixth spot respectively in the Premier League, although Spurs have a superior goal difference. Spurs have won all three of their away games in the Premier League this season and goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has kept three clean sheets.

Spurs will be without winger Aaron Lennon and midfielder Scott Parker for the away trip due to injuries they picked up in the clubs 1-1 draw against Wigan Athletic at White Hart Lane last Sunday.

Tottenham Hotspur recorded victory over Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium this afternoon as predicted by manager Andre Villas-Boas as goals from Gareth Bale and Jermain Defoe saw off the Potters.

Spurs put their disappointing Capital One Cup exit at the hands of Stoke City firmly behind them as they recorded a valuable 2-0 win at the Britannia Stadium this afternoon. A first half goal from Gareth Bale laid the platform for the North London club and the win was sealed when Jermain Defoe netted in injury time.

Once again the North London club recorded a clean sheet away from home, goalkeeper Hugo Lloris having very little to do as his defence once again put in a strong performance, that reliable defence setting the platform for Spurs attacking players to go about their business without fear of conceding at the other end.

The visitors started the game in a controlling manner and had early opportunities, the best of which fell to Clint Dempsey inside the opening few minutes, Amir Begovic well placed to tip the Americans header over his crossbar.

Spurs had been growing in confidence as the first half approached the half hour mark and Gareth Bale was causing the Stoke City defence real problems with his pace and close dribbling, the Welsh international drawing a foul from Andy Wilkinson who received the first yellow card of what would prove to be a fiery contest.

Just five minutes after that incident Bale shrugged off defender Robert Huth in a chase for a long pass by Mousa Dembele and the Spurs winger kept a cool head as he skipped beyond Begovic who had raced out to confront him, the winger rolling the ball into an empty net to put his side ahead with his second league goal of the season.

Huth never recovered from a knock he sustained in that tussle with Bale and the German international was eventually replaced by Rory Delap just before the half time break, although the Irishman was immediately involved in proceedings, Delap picking up a caution for a crude trip on Spurs striker Emmanuel Adebayor.

That incident wasn't forgotten by Adebayor and he soon joined Wilkinson and Delap in Howard Webb's notebook when he slammed into the back of Delap as the Stoke City defender leaped to head clear a free kick.

The hosts enjoyed some early pressure in the opening 15 minutes of the second half but never found a way to create a clear cut opportunity, Stokes best chance falling to Matthew Etherington on the edge of the area after a low cross from Peter Crouch had only been diverted away by Spurs skipper Michael Dawson, the Potters winger unable to keep his shot down and unable to test Lloris in the Spurs goal.

Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas realized his side was losing their grip on the game and made his first change just past the half hour mark when he withdrew Mousa Dembele for Gylfi Sigurdsson, the Icelandic international immediately involved as he won a free kick in a dangerous area, Spurs unlucky not to have doubled their lead as Bale smashed a free kick against the Potters crossbar to the relief of the home crowd.

As time ticked away Stoke City created their best chance of the game, a neat pass into the feet of Crouch by Dean Whitehead was laid off for Jonathan Walters and the Irishman drew a fine save from Lloris as the Frenchman stretched every muscle in his body to divert the ball over his bar as it looked destined to rifle into the top corner.

In the end the nervy finish for Spurs fans was brought to an end in the first minute of injury time when substitute Danny Graham found space down the left flank before cutting the ball back for Jermain Defoe who made no mistake with his finish as he placed it low and hard into the bottom corner to secure the three points.

Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe says he can go on a goal scoring run in the next few games after he netted his fourth Premier League goal of the season against Stoke City yesterday.

Two goals in his last two Premier League games has boosted the confidence of Spurs striker Jermain Defoe and the striker is predicting that he'll go on a bit of a goal scoring frenzy over the coming weeks.

The striker had suffered a bit of a drought in recent months, in fact he'd last scored for the North London club back in September when his brace was enough to seal a 2-1 victory over Newcastle United at White Hart Lane, the striker breaking that drought when he scored against Wigan Athletic last weekend at White Hart Lane.

Defoe, 30, is confident he can continue scoring goals following his recent success in front of goal.

"I've got that sharpness in and around the area back now, I feel fit and I'm confident I'm going to score a lot more goals. The service has been great, I've just failed to take advantage and it's been frustrating," said Defoe.

"Sometimes as a striker though you have bad patches, I think I've had mine and I'm confident of now scoring goals on a more regular basis. My confidence is high and I'm playing in a team that wants to score lots of goals. I feel as if I'm just about to go on a good goal scoring run so hopefully that's going to happen," added the striker.

If Defoe is to go on a goal scoring run it couldn't come at a better time as Spurs prepare for a busy December schedule with tough games against Everton, Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester City to come next month.

I'm out to prove my worth to AVB - Gallas

William Gallas is hoping he will get a chance to impress manager Andre Villas-Boas when Tottenham Hotspur host AZ Alkmaar at White Hart Lane in their Europa League Group H fixture on Thursday night.

Veteran defender William Gallas believes he has what it takes to prove to Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas that he deserves a new contract over the next few months despite turning 35 back in August.

"I want to stay at Spurs if possible, I've said that all along and I've not changed my mind," says Gallas.

"It's up to me to prove to the manager over the next few months that I'm worth a new contract. I might be 35 but I feel as if I'm 25 or 26, my body is fit and there aren't many players that will beat me for pace. I've looked after my body well and been extremely professional throughout my career so hopefully I'll be able to play on for a few more years because of that. I'm confident I can prove my worth to the boss," added the defender.

The Spurs defender hopes to play against AZ Alkmaar on Thursday night in their Europa League clash.

Gallas has so far made just a single Premier League appearance for Spurs this season.

That appearance came against Liverpool back in September when an own goal from captain Michael Dawson handed the visitors a point in a 1-1 draw at White Hart Lane. The 35 year old has however featured in both the North London clubs Capital One Cup fixtures this season and has made two appearances in the Europa League.

The defenders £60,000 a week contract expires next summer and Gallas will be free to speak to other clubs during the January transfer window if Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas doesn't offer him a new contract. The 35 year old has made 43 appearances for Spurs in the Premier League since leaving Arsenal back in 2010 on a free transfer.

Fringe players want to prove themselves - Huddlestone

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tom Huddlestone says the clubs fringe players will be looking to prove themselves to manager Andre Villas-Boas if given the chance tomorrow night when the North London club meet AZ Alkmaar at White Hart Lane in their Europa League Group H fixture.

With a place in the next round of the Europa League already assured it's expected by many that Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas will field a changed side for their Group H Europa League clash with AZ Alkmaar.

Spurs currently sit five points clear of Hannover 96 at the top of Group H and will be confirmed Group H winners if they avoid defeat against their Dutch opponents tomorrow night at White Hart Lane. With a grueling Premier League fixture schedule next month it's expected the likes of Emmanuel Adebayor, Gareth Bale, Gylfi Sigurdsson, Sandro, Jan Vertonghen and Michael Dawson will be rested for tomorrow nights clash against AZ Alkmaar.

With changes expected Spurs midfielder Tom Huddlestone has told reporters that the fringe players at White Hart Lane will be looking to prove themselves if given the chance and will be pushing their cases for inclusion in the clubs next Premier League game against Everton on December 3 when the Toffees visit White Hart Lane.

"Football is a team game and every big club has a lot of players, it's no different at Spurs. When you're expecting to play more than 50 games a season then you need a big squad and you need to rotate that squad at certain points during a season to avoid injuries and dips in form. If there is changes made tomorrow night the boys that come in will be ready and we'll be out to impress the manager," said the Spurs midfielder.

"Obviously we know some of the guys will return against Everton but obviously we want to stake our claim for inclusion in that game so tomorrow night is going to be a very big game for the lads coming into the team. We obviously want to keep winning games and hopefully we can continue our good form in Europe. It won't be easy, no game in Europe is these days but we're confident we can get the right result," added Huddlestone.

Huddlestone, 25, has made eight appearances for Spurs this season in all competitions and the defensive midfielder signed a new contract back in August that will keep him at White Hart Lane until 2016.

Good result at Stoke City.

Yeah I'm carefully pondering whether or not I'll offer him a new deal. I guess it just depends on his demands really, he's still quite a decent centre back, but we've got a lot of options there and as you said those wages could be put to better use somewhere else. I'll probably make a decision by the end of December.

Yeah man have four top quality defenders at the moment.

Vertonghen and Dawson have been absolute beasts at the back so far this season.

Tottenham Hotspur made it five wins from five in the Europa League this season as they saw off a spirited comeback from Dutch side AZ Alkmaar in their Group H clash tonight at White Hart Lane.

Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas was able to call on fringe players tonight and still record victory as the North London club beat AZ Alkmaar 2-1 in their Europa League Group H clash at White Hart Lane. The Spurs boss was in fact able to make a staggering seven changes from the side that beat Stoke City 2-0 at the Britannia Stadium on Saturday afternoon, Hugo Lloris, Clint Dempsey, Sandro and Jermain Defoe the only survivors from that game.

In the end it didn't matter as Spurs got off to a flyer at White Hart Lane, goals from William Gallas and Andros Townsend within the opening 20 minutes giving AZ Alkmaar a mountain they couldn't climb despite an improved second half performance and goal from Markus Henriksen with just 18 minutes remaining.

The game between the top and bottom side in Group H was thoroughly entertaining with end to end football on show, the 35,797 fans at White Hart Lane getting their monies worth in a game that could have produced more goals, the visitors unfortunate to have struck the Spurs crossbar twice on a wet night in North London.

Spurs started this clash on the front foot and produced early chances as both Jermain Defoe and Sandro sent headers wide. The visitors looked uncomfortable in possession and seemed intimidated in the opening few minutes as the North London club dominated proceedings, midfielders Tom Huddlestone and Sandro in particular impressive early on as Spurs searched for the opening goal of this Europa League Group H clash.

The breakthrough came for Spurs inside the opening 10 minutes, a thumping header from William Gallas opening the scoring from Gylfi Sigurdsson's corner kick, the 35 year old defender showing manager Andre Villas-Boas exactly what he can do when given the opportunity just days after he spoke of his desire to stay at White Hart Lane beyond his current contract that expires next summer.

Spurs soon doubled their lead, youngster Andros Townsend beating the visitors goalkeeper Esteban with a fine volley after a shot from Sandro had been blocked by the AZ Alkmaar defence on the edge of the penalty area.

After doubling their advantage the hosts took their foot off and for large parts of the first half looked comfortable as their Dutch opponents failed to create any opportunities that would get them back into the game.

Spurs were however lucky to go in at half time with their clean sheet intact after a lapse in concentration allowed Ruud Boymans to break the offside trap, the striker unfortunately clipping the crossbar with his effort, television replays suggesting Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris had got a hand to the ball to help divert it onto the woodwork.

Following the break AZ looked more likely to score as Spurs struggled to match their Dutch opponents, although the hosts never looked under pressure at the back as William Gallas and Younes Kaboul kept the visitors attackers quiet. In the end there was nothing either man could do when Henriksen scored from more than 25 yards out with a stunning effort that dipped and swerved through the air.

The Norwegian international almost salvaged a point for the Dutch side deep into second half injury time, the midfielder out of luck as his free kick took a deflection off Kyle Naughton and rattled the Spurs crossbar.

Elsewhere in Group H there was a 0-0 in Moscow between Dinamo Moscow and Hannover 96 as the German side confirmed their spot in the next stage of the Europa League as runners up in Group H.

In the final round of fixtures in Group H the Bundesliga side will host Spurs at the AWD-Arena.
