A brace from Manchester United striker Robin van Persie ended Tottenham Hotspurs unbeaten run under manager Andre Villas-Boas in all competitions as the North London club suffered defeat at White Hart Lane.

A brace from Robin van Persie at White Hart Lane cancelled out Gylfi Sigurdsson's first half opener as Manchester United inflicted a first defeat of the season on Spurs.

Spurs went into the game full of confidence and looked to be in firm control of the contest throughout the majority of the first half, their superiority rewarded when Sigurdsson tapped home a low cross from Mousa Dembele. Unfortunately for Spurs van Persie was fortunate to be in the right place at the right time just before half time to level things when a Wayne Rooney effort was deflected into his path, the Dutch international blasting his shot beyond Hugo Lloris with his weaker right foot.

In truth had Emmanuel Adebayor and Michael Dawson done better with their free headers earlier in the first half Spurs may well have been out of sight heading into the half time break, however the visitors went in level at the break courtesy of van Persie's fifth Premier League goal since his summer move from rivals Arsenal.

MOTD Highlights: Spurs v Man Utd
The second half was a more even affair as both sides looked to find a way past the other.

Spurs had the first real chance of the second half, defender Jan Vertonghen forcing a fine save from David De Gea in the United goal, the Belgian left back finding space on the edge of the area to fire in a powerfully driven effort, the Spanish goalkeeper doing well to divert the goal bound effort over his crossbar.

The hosts then had two fantastic opportunities to go in front on the hour mark when Adebayor rose above United skipper Nemanja Vidic to meet a cross from Aaron Lennon, the strikers header rattling the crossbar to the dismay of the Spurs fans, the rebound heading in from Gylfi Sigurdsson until Vidic cleared off the line.

http://i1259.photobucket.com/albums/ii557/khronaldo89/Spurs/RVP6from6_zps06a7b0e0.png

In the end Spurs paid the ultimate price for their failure in front of goal, a smart flick from Nani on the edge of the area found van Persie who had broken the offside trap and the 29 year old made no mistake as he cooly slid the ball beyond Lloris who blasted his defence for an uncharacteristic lapse in concentration, United victorious at White Hart Lane, although Spurs fans left to ponder what could have been had their players taken their chances.

The result leaves Spurs in fourth spot in the Premier League four points behind league leaders Manchester City, although the North London club does have a game in hand. The win for Manchester United at White Hart Lane assured they remained in second spot on the ladder just a single point behind their fierce city rivals.

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has admitted that his side were lucky to avoid defeat against Tottenham Hotspur when the sides met in their Premier League clash yesterday at White Hart Lane.

A brace from Robin van Persie yesterday against Spurs ensured Manchester United remained hot on the heels of fierce city rivals Manchester City at the top of the Premier League table.

United may have beaten Spurs 2-1 at White Hart Lane but the result could have been very different had the hosts taken early chances and put the game beyond Sir Alex Ferguson's side, the veteran manager admitting his side were lucky to avoid defeat, although he praised van Persie for his match winning performance.

"Yesterday wasn't our best performances for a number of reasons, I've explained that to the players and they know we expect more. To be honest the main reason we never got going was because of Spurs. They're a quality side and they'll cause any team problems when they play the way they did yesterday," declared Ferguson.

"We may have been lucky to avoid defeat yesterday, they had a lot of good chances to kill the game off, credit to the lads though because they stuck at it and we got the result which is crucial," added the United boss.

"Robin has been amazing since he's arrived and he has been worth every penny, he proved that yesterday and we're lucky to have him at the club, he's a fantastic player, the things he can do with the ball are breathtaking."

We must learn from United defeat - Bale

Tottenham Hotspur winger Gareth Bale has called on his team-mates to learn from their disappointing defeat at the hands of Manchester United at White Hart Lane last Saturday.

Spurs must learn to win games even when their luck has deserted them according to Welsh international Gareth Bale, the winger calling on his team-mates to learn the harsh lessons following the North London clubs disappointing 2-1 defeat at the hands of Manchester United on Saturday at White Hart Lane.

That defeat not only ended an unbeaten run in all competitions this season that had lasted nine games but it also came despite the home side creating numerous chances to kill the game off, a brace from Robin van Persie turning the game around for the visitors after Gylfi Sigurdsson had given Spurs a first half lead.

"We must learn the lessons from the game last weekend against Manchester United," said Bale.

"To play so well against a big team like that is a positive thing, we have to take the positives even from defeats, although we're far from happy with the result because we know we deserved a lot more than what we got in the end. We certainly didn't deserve to lose and we probably should have won, I mean when Sir Alex Ferguson says they were lucky to avoid defeat then that means something," added the Spurs winger.

"It's frustrating to lose but we need to learn from it and bounce back on Thursday night because we've another important fixture against another tough opponent. Hopefully we can get the three points and put the result against United firmly behind us, it was disappointing but we need to move on and refocus."

Spurs have the chance to bounce back on Thursday night when they take on Dinamo Moscow at White Hart Lane in their Europa League Group H clash. The North London club currently sit top of Group H after winning both their opening games against AZ Alkmaar and Hannover 96, victory against their Russian opponents on Thursday night would almost guarantee they would advance to the next stage of this years Europa League.

Cheers pal

I just use google images, basically type in a few different things, like Gareth Bale celebrates or Gareth Bale injury/training to get different type of pictures. It just takes a bit of patience to get the right picture for the report and then resizing them if needs be. Off to bed now man, more updates tomorrow!!

Tottenham Hotspur and Dinamo Moscow played their part in what was a thrilling Europa League Group H clash at White Hart Lane this evening, the North London club cementing their spot at the top of Group H.

Spurs came from behind at White Hart Lane this evening to record their third consecutive win in the Europa League this season, their 3-2 win over Dinamo Moscow in their Group H clash cementing their spot at the top of the Group H table, the North London club firm favourites to advance from the group now.

Following their disappointing defeat against Manchester United last Saturday the hosts were looking to bounce back against their Russian opponents, however they got off to a terrible start, left back Aleksandar Kolarov the villain as his attempted clearance flew beyond Hugo Lloris, a dangerous cross from Dinamo Moscow captain Igor Semshov forcing Kolarov to attempt a header, the Serbian unfortunately getting it all wrong as the ball skimmed off his head and past Lloris, the hosts behind as their Russian foes got off to a fantastic start.

Spurs looked to bounce back immediately and Gylfi Sigurdsson fired a warning shot four minutes after the visitors had taken the lead, the Icelandic international narrowly missing the target with a free kick.

The hosts did draw level just after the half hour break when Clint Dempsey found Andros Townsend in space and the latter was quickest to react to poke home the rebound after his initial effort had been blocked by Dinamo Moscow goalkeeper Anton Shunin. Some five minutes later Dempsey put Spurs ahead with a thumping header, the American international beating Kevin Kuranyi to the ball after Sigurdsson had delivered a dangerous free kick into the area from the left hand side, the hosts heading into the break deservedly ahead.

Following the half time interval Spurs pressed on in search of more goals and Townsend was extremely unfortunate to have not netted his second for the night, the midfielders header cracking against the woodwork after Jermain Defoe had done well to stand the ball up for his team-mate. Defoe then smashed an effort against the crossbar himself before a counter attack from the visitors led to an equalizer, a powerful finish from Balazs Dzsudzsak giving Lloris no chance, Spurs again punished for their failure to take clear cut chances.

In the end however Spurs would triumph, a simple finish from Sigurdsson on the hour mark giving Spurs a 3-2 lead that the Russian visitors couldn't turn around, a fantastic run from Defoe and low cross to match giving the Icelandic international the simple chance to take his tally for the season to five in all competitions.

Tottenham Hotspur star Gareth Bale has heaped praise on Gylfi Sigurdsson following the midfielders man of the match performance against Dinamo Moscow last night in their Europa League Group H clash.

Three goals in three Europa League appearances this season from Icelandic midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson has helped the North London club overcome AZ Alkmaar, Hannover 96 and Dinamo Moscow in Group H.

Sigurdsson, 23, netted the winner last night against Dinamo Moscow at White Hart Lane, the victory helping Spurs cement top spot in Group H, Welsh international Gareth Bale heaping praise on the Icelandic midfielder who has been in fine form for the North London club since his summer arrival from 1899 Hoffenheim.

"Gylfi has been fantastic for us and keeps scoring really important goals, he's a top player and it's been worth every penny the club paid for him during the summer," declared the Welsh international.

"He's scoring goals, creating goals and has fit in so well. The manager, players and fans are delighted, he's quickly becoming a key player for us, a player you can depend on in the big games when it really matters," added Bale.

"It's fantastic having a player like Gylfi come in and strengthen the squad. We've started the season well in all competitions and hopefully we can continue picking up victories. So far it's been a very good start and everybody at the club is confident we can keep that good run of form going. We want to challenge the best in the Premier League and I think we're capable of that now, we've improved and hopefully this time next year we're talking about tackling the very best in the Champions League," said the 23 year old winger.

I won't be staying at White Hart Lane - Jenas

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Jermaine Jenas has decided that he will end his seven year association with the North London club and join another club on a free transfer when his contract runs out next summer.

Despite announcing his intentions to stay at White Hart Lane only last month Spurs midfielder Jermaine Jenas has today announced he won't be signing a new deal and will leave the club next summer when his contract expires.

Jenas, 29, has had injury problems in recent years and has seen his grasp on a spot in the Spurs first team slowly slip away. The midfielder joined Spurs back in 2005 when he left Newcastle United in a deal worth £7 million.

The midfielder who has been capped 21 times by England became a key player at White Hart Lane, however recent injuries restricted Jenas to just 19 Premier League appearances in the past two seasons, a loan spell at Aston Villa not a successful one, the 29 year old making just three appearances as he suffered more injury woe.

Jenas had spoken about his love for the club and said he felt he belonged at White Hart Lane, however it would now appear the 29 year old has accepted he'll find it difficult to break into the first team setup following the summer arrivals of Clint Dempsey, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Mousa Dembele, whilst Scott Parker, Sandro, Tom Huddlestone and exciting youngster Andros Townsend also offer more competition for places in midfield.

"My time at Spurs is coming to an end unfortunately, there just isn't a future for me at the club with the amount of players that we've got competing for a spot in the first team and at 29 I need to make up for lost time, I need to be playing regular first team football. It's disappointing, I can't deny that, but that's the truth," revealed Jenas.

Jenas has made 154 Premier League appearances for the North London club and has scored 21 times.

We've played our opening three games in Group H and won all three, so we've a great chance to go and win the group really, I've been surprised we've played so well in Europe given I've often rotated.

As for Jenas to simply put it he's 29, we've better options and I didn't want to be paying large wages for a player who won't be playing all that often, hopefully I'll somehow get a fee for him.

Stoke City emerged victorious from their Capital One Cup fourth round clash with Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane this evening after they won a nail biting penalty shootout.

Spurs battered Stoke City tonight at White Hart Lane yet have been dumped out of this seasons Capital One Cup after the Potters won 5-4 on penalties, goalkeeper Amir Begovic the hero as he saved a penalty from defender William Gallas to book his sides place in the quarter final of this seasons Capital One Cup.

The hosts dominated the contest throughout and will feel hard done by after the Potters won, but the result will again highlight Spurs problems in attack, Jermain Defoe, Danny Graham and Emmanuel Adebayor all having opportunities to score in normal time, the trio all failing to beat Begovic, that wastefulness costing Spurs dearly.

The first chance of the game fell to Clint Dempsey in the eighth minute and the American international should have scored with his header, the midfielder however dragging his effort wide of the post. Dempsey went close again four minutes later when he sent a free kick narrowly over the visitors crossbar after Robert Huth had barged Defoe in the back, the Stoke City captain booked for the foul by referee Howard Webb.

Stoke are well known for their physical presence, especially at set pieces and they created their only chance of the game just past the quarter of an hour mark when Steven N'Zonzi sent a stinging effort from outside the area flashing past Brad Friedel's right hand post. In the end the effort cause the American veteran goalkeeper no trouble and Spurs went straight back on the attack, Defoe heading straight at Begovic from seven yards.

The striker then produced a moment of magic to turn Ryan Shotton on the edge of the visitors penalty area, the 30 year old spinning off the shoulder of the defender, his powerful strike that followed leaving Begovic rooted to the spot, the effort unfortunately cracking the underside of the woodwork before being hacked away by Huth.

At the half time break there was no debate about who had dominated the opening 45 minutes, Spurs well and truly the better side, the Potters holding on, the woodwork and Begovic the only thing keeping the North London club at bay as they created chance after chance.

With the home fans growing impatient as the second half minutes ticked away Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas withdrew Danny Graham and Jermain Defoe, the pair replaced by Gylfi Sigurdsson and Emmanuel Adebayor.

Those changes brought about no change in luck however as Spurs continued to find no way past Begovic, the Bosnian international doing superbly well to reach an Adebayor volley and his fingertip save could be a contender for save of the season, the hosts wracking up a massive 15 corners in this contest, the tall and physical Stoke City defenders dealing with those corners without fuss.

In the end the were no goals in normal time or extra time, the match to be decided by penalties.

The visitors went first and Marc Wilson made no mistake as he sent Friedel the wrong way, Sigurdsson stepping up next to level proceedings in the shootout although Begovic did guess the correct side. The next two penalties by Charlie Adam and Adebayor were both perfect, the next penalty from former Manchester United defender Danny Higgonbotham was dreadful, the ball flying over the bar, advantage Spurs.

Extra time substitute Mousa Dembele stepped up and made no mistake to put Spurs 3-2 up in the shootout, the hosts looking likely to go on and book a place in the quarter final, more drama to unfold however at White Hart Lane. Both Jermaine Pennant and Dean Whitehead converted their efforts either side of a successful Clint Dempsey spot kick, defender Kyle Naughton stepping up to take what could have been the winning spot kick only to see his well struck spot kick finely saved by Begovic.

Potters skipper Robert Huth stepped forward to take his sides sixth spot kick of the shootout to a chorus of boos inside White Hart Lane and after steadying himself the German defender blasted the ball straight down the centre of Brad Friedel's goal to heap pressure on William Gallas who stepped forward to take Spurs next penalty knowing he had to score to keep his side in the Capital One Cup, that pressure to much in the end as Begovic guessed the right way and pushed away the Frenchman's effort.

This is what I like. When results don't matter to people and they don't do the old save before the game to get the win. Sure its gutting going out the cup but its football.

However another good report and its only a minor cup!

Absolutely no point in saving, quitting and replaying to win... Pointless exercise!!

Not sure how we didn't beat them, we battered them as the stats show but penalties can be a lottery and we've gone out. Only consolation is it's only the Carling Cup, League Cup or Capital One Cup... But yeah whatever it's a heap of shite and it won't kill us going out at this stage.

My priority is the Europa League and the Premier League.

Stoke City deserved to lose says Villas-Boas

Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas says Stoke City deserved nothing from their Capital One Cup fourth round clash at White Hart Lane last night after the Potters won 5-4 on penalties.

Spurs dominated proceedings against the Potters but crashed out of this years Capital One Cup after the visitors goalkeeper Amir Begovic saved crucial penalties from defenders Kyle Naughton and William Gallas.

The Bosnian keeper was in fine form as he denied Spurs throughout the contest at White Hart Lane.

Some poor finishing didn't help the North London clubs chances, Jermain Defoe and Clint Dempsey guilty of wasting clear cut chances, the hosts paying the price for their wastefulness in front of goal.

Despite his sides poor finishing Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas still believes the Potters deserved to lose the game.

"We were very unlucky last night, I know this, the players know this and the fans know this. It's pleasing that we controlled the game and created chances against a tough team. We need to score more goals, we wasted many good chances and I'll be speaking to the players about this straight away," said Villas-Boas.

"Still I feel we did enough to win the game and I think Stoke got very lucky. They didn't deserve to win the game, they hardly bothered our defence or goalkeeper all night. It's disappointing to lose on penalties, but hopefully the players will now learn to finish games so we don't have a penalty situation again," added the Spurs boss.

Spurs have won eight of their opening 12 games under Villas-Boas, with their other four games ending in two draws and two defeats, those defeats inflicted by Manchester United and Stoke City respectively.

Strikers must score more goals - Vertonghen

Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen has called on the clubs out of form strikers to score more goals following their elimination from the Capital One Cup at the hands of Stoke City despite the North London side dominating the fourth round clash at White Hart Lane on Tuesday night.

Ahead of Spurs trip to face Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium tomorrow Belgian defender Jan Vertonghen has called on the clubs struggling strikers to score more goals. The comments follow the clubs fourth round Capital One Cup defeat at the hands of Stoke City, the North London side crashing out of the competition on penalties.

"The strikers need to score more goals, we need them to do their job in front of goal and make games easier for us. So far we've done well, but we can do better and we need their help," said the Belgian international.

The Spurs strikers are out of form and struggling and it's impossible to argue with that statement.

Jermain Defoe hasn't scored in any competition since his match winning brace against Newcastle United back in September whilst Emmanuel Adebayor has scored just once in seven appearances in all competitions. Danny Graham hasn't scored a goal for Spurs since his opening day strike against Norwich City at Carrow Road although it would be harsh to blame him for much as seven of his nine appearances for Spurs have been as a substitute.

Spurs sit fifth in the Premier League seven points behind league leaders Manchester City who have played two games more than the North London club. Stoke City, Arsenal and Manchester United make up the top four.

Swansea City have lost their last four Premier League games although they snapped that losing streak with a hard fought 2-1 win over Everton in their fourth round Capital One Cup clash at the Liberty Stadium on Tuesday night.

In contrast Spurs have picked up 10 points from their last five Premier League games. The North London club have won both of their away games in the Premier League this season and are yet to concede a goal on their travels in England's top flight competition, their last away game was back in September against Fulham.

Tottenham Hotspur moved back into the top four in the Premier League this afternoon as they recorded a 2-0 win over Swansea City in what was a very even clash at the Liberty Stadium.

Spurs bounced back from their defeat against Stoke City in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday night to record a valuable win over Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium. The win saw the North London club move back into the top four in the Premier League and Andre Villas-Boas side have closed the gap on new league leaders Manchester United to just five points whilst having two games in hand over the Red Devils.

There were few surprises as Villas-Boas named a strong Spurs lineup for the clash at the Liberty Stadium.

The hosts however started the brightest with Pablo Hernandez and Chico having early chances, both players failing to test Hugo Lloris however with their wayward efforts. The Frenchman was forced into action however when right back Dwight Tiendalli overhit a cross that almost crept in at the back post.

Spurs began to take control of proceedings as the game moved towards the half hour mark and captain Michael Dawson should have broken the deadlock when he rose highest to meet a Gylfi Sigurdsson corner, the defenders effort beating Swansea City goalkeeper Michel Vorm but crashing into the woodwork.

With half time approaching it looked likely the sides would go in level at the break but a rush of blood to the head from Israeli striker Itay Shechter gave Spurs the lead, the 25 year old finishing with great power only his effort was at the wrong end, Vorm unable to keep the effort out, Spurs ahead two minutes before the break.

There was more first half woe for the Swans when Emmanuel Adebayor was picked out by a wonderful Sigurdsson pass, the under pressure striker controlling the ball well with his right foot before curling the ball with his left beyond the outstretched hands of Vorm to double Spurs advantage before the half time interval.

In the end the hosts never recovered from that quick fire double and Spurs ran out comfortable winners at the Liberty Stadium, manager Andre Villas-Boas sure to be pleased by his sides performance and the return of a strikers name amongst the goals, Adebayor the first Spurs striker to score a goal since he scored against Reading in the clubs 3-0 victory last month at White Hart Lane.

Tottenham Hotspur captain Michael Dawson has praised his team-mates after they beat Swansea City yesterday in what the defender labelled as a must win game following their Capital One Cup exit.

The Spurs skipper was in a buoyant mood today as he spoke with reporters before training and the 28 year old heaped praise on his team-mates after they bounced back from their disappointing Capital One Cup exit on Tuesday night at the hands of Stoke City when they beat Swansea City 2-0 yesterday at the Liberty Stadium.

Another eye catching performance from Gylfi Sigurdsson helped the North London club overcome the Swans, the midfielder involved in both goals, the first an own goal from Israeli striker Itay Shechter, the second from striker Emmanuel Adebayor, both goals coming just before the half time interval.

The win allowed Spurs to close the gap on Manchester United at the summit of the Premier League table to just five points and the North London have played two games less than the Red Devils.

Spurs skipper Michael Dawson was delighted that his side bounced back to winning ways at the Liberty Stadium.

"Losing on penalties was a real sucker punch for the squad. It certainly wasn't the result we expected and it certainly hurt a little crashing out of the Capital One Cup on penalties," revealed Dawson.

"In the end you've got to applaud Stoke because they hung on for dear life and managed to get the result they'd come for. It's obviously disappointing because we deserved to win that game in normal time but just couldn't find a goal. Hopefully we'll learn from it and avoid that situation in the future," added the Spurs skipper.

"Yesterday was a very important game for us, we needed to bounce back and the boys did terrific. We really wanted to pick up the three points and we did just that. Now we just need to refocus and prepare for our next game against Dinamo Moscow because any trip to Russia will be very difficult," said the 28 year old.

Spurs currently sit top of Group H after recording threes win from their opening three games and can ensure qualification for the next phase of this seasons Europa League with a win in Moscow.

Tottenham Hotspur winger Gareth Bale says their upcoming Russian opponents Dinamo Moscow deserve respect and has warned his team-mates to prepare for a tough encounter in Moscow on Thursday night.

Spurs head into their Europa League Group H clash against Dinamo Moscow knowing a win in Moscow on Thursday night will ensure their name is in the draw for the first and second knockout rounds of the competition when the draw is made on December 21 in Amsterdam.

Despite sitting six points clear of Dinamo Moscow at the top of Group H, Spurs winger Gareth Bale has urged his team-mates to respect the Russian side and has warned his team-mates to expect a tough encounter.

"The game in Moscow is going to be very tough. The crowds over there are very passionate and even intimidating, they love their football and they're very passionate about their clubs. We'll need to perform well to get a result and that won't be easy to do when you're playing in tough conditions," said the Welsh international.

"We need to show them the respect they deserve on Thursday night even if we beat them at White Hart Lane and sit top of the group. If we lose our last three games the fantastic start we've made in the group will be for nothing, so we must focus on getting the right result against Dinamo Moscow despite the difficulties," added Bale.

"I've told some of the lads in the squad that we need to be prepared for a physical battle, that's what it will be on Thursday night, a real battle and we'll need to be ready for that if we're to have any chance," said the 23 year old.

Tottenham Hotspur booked their place in the next stage of this seasons Europa League with an emphatic and dominating 5-0 rout of Dinamo Moscow in Moscow as striker Emmanuel Adebayor scored a hat-trick.

Spurs have all but wrapped up top spot in Group H and their place in the next round of the Europa League after they inflicted a heavy 5-0 defeat on Dinamo Moscow in Moscow tonight. A hat-trick from Emmanuel Adebayor and goals from Gylfi Sigurdsson and Aaron Lennon ensured that the North London clubs fans left Russia happy.

The rout began as early as the second minute, Adebayor producing a fine volleyed finish with his left foot after Sigurdsson had played a fantastic ball over the hosts defence to give the Togolese international a yard of space and that's all the former Arsenal and Manchester City striker needed to put Spurs ahead.

Despite the early setback the hosts responded immediately, Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris forced into a fine save to deny Dinamo Moscow striker Kevin Kuranyi just five minutes after Adebayor had broken the deadlock.

The hosts had recovered well after going behind early in this Group H contest and looked likely to bounce back from the setback, however the hosts could do nothing about the wonder strike that soon followed, Spurs midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson hammering home a thundering strike from at least 30 yards out.

After falling further behind the hosts never recovered and they could have conceded just minutes later when Adebayor headed against the crossbar, the striker unlucky to see Dinamo Moscow goalkeeper Anton Shunin tip his header onto the woodwork. The Spurs striker would win the next battle with the hosts keeper six minutes before half time, the 28 year old netting his second of the night, Shunin failing to handle a powerful drive from Sigurdsson, the rebound passed into the net by the waiting Adebayor.

The half time interval wouldn't have been an enjoyable one for the Dinamo Moscow players but the mood inside the Spurs dressing room would have been buoyant. The second half was dominated in the early stages by the hosts but they couldn't fashion any clear cut chances and Hugo Lloris was only required to get behind long range efforts, the hosts running out of ideas as Spurs defended professionally, the damage done in the first half as the North London club enjoyed their three goal lead.

Adebayor had enjoyed his evening in Moscow and the striker chipped in with an assist when he perhaps could have selfishly shot at goal in an attempt to net himself a hat-trick, winger Aaron Lennon the beneficiary as the striker squared the ball across goal for him to tap into an empty net after Dinamo Moscow keeper Anton Shunin had become stranded, Adebayor rounding the keeper and staying on his feet despite clear contact from Shunin.

In the end the striker completed his hat-trick just four minutes from time when he rose high to powerfully head a cross from Andros Townsend beyond the reach of Shunin who looked extremely disheartened as he picked the ball out of his net for the fifth time on a night many inside the Arena Khimki would like to forget, unless of course you're from North London, Spurs booking their place in the next round of the Europa League in emphatic fashion.

I've been doing that with the European games recently because it takes a good 20 to 30 minutes to do the graphics in Photoshop and I no joke have only just caught up on updates now with the date I'm in the game. Glad you're enjoying the story man, hopefully you do find the time to start one, I'm sure it would be a very good read.

I never doubted my ability says Adebayor

Tottenham Hotspur striker Emmanuel Adebayor has revealed he never doubted his ability despite struggling for goals this season prior to his hat-trick against Dinamo Moscow last night.

Spurs striker Emmanuel Adebayor scored a fine hat-trick against Dinamo Moscow last night at the Arena Khimki as the North London club booked their spot in the next round of the Europa League with an emphatic 5-0 victory over their Russian opponents in their Group H clash.

The 28 year old had scored just two goals in eight appearances in all competitions prior to netting that hat-trick and Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas had called on Adebayor and his strike partners Jermain Defoe and Danny Graham to start finding the back of the net on a more regular basis.

Despite his struggles in front of goal the Togolese international says he never doubted his ability.

"All strikers go through bad times when they don't score as many goals as they probably should. Every striker knows about those tough times and sometimes it feels like you can't stop them," said the striker.

"I knew it wouldn't last forever, I never doubted myself, I always believe I can score," added Adebayor.

Spurs have enjoyed life under Villas-Boas since his summer arrival. The North London club occupy fourth place in the Premier League and sit just five points behind league leaders Manchester United whilst having two games in hand. Spurs have played a total of 14 games in all competitions under the Portuguese manager, winning 10, drawing two and losing just twice. The first defeat was inflicted by Manchester United last month, the second an undeserved penalty shootout defeat at the hands of Stoke City in the fourth round of the Capital One Cup.

The North London club currently sit top of their Europa League group after winning their opening four games in Group H and have already booked their spot in the next round of the competition. Spurs will take on Wigan Athletic at White Hart Lane on Sunday as they resume their Premier League duties.

Jermain Defoe wary of Wigan Athletic threat

Wigan Athletic are no easy beats and could surprise many tomorrow at White Hart Lane if Tottenham Hotspur players don't perform at their best according to 30 year old striker Jermain Defoe.

Spurs striker Jermain Defoe has called on his team-mates to perform at the same level they did midweek when they emphatically thrashed Dinamo Moscow 5-0 in their Europa League Group H fixture ahead of the North London clubs Premier League clash with Wigan Athletic at White Hart Lane tomorrow.

The 30 year old said the Latics were no longer easy beats and would pose a real threat unless the Spurs players performed at their very best. The Latics currently sit just two points and two places behind Spurs, although the Latics have played two games more than their upcoming opponents.

"Wigan won't be coming to White Hart Lane looking for a point, they're no longer easy beats and we need to perform tomorrow to pick up the win. They've started the season well and have been playing very good football, they pose a real threat, we must be aware of that and perform at our best," said Defoe.

The England international has struggled in front of goal this season and has so far netted just twice in eight appearances in all competitions, a match winning brace against Newcastle United in the Premier League back in September the only time the striker has celebrated getting his name on the scoresheet this season.

Despite the goal drought the 30 year old remains confident he still has a role to play at White Hart Lane.

"Obviously goals haven't been easy to come by this season and that's frustrating," said the striker.

"In saying that I've had chances, some I've missed, some the goalkeepers have done well to save and some that have hit the woodwork. As a striker you just try and move on, like you know not beat yourself up about that kind of stuff, if you do that you might not be ready for the next chance that comes your way," added Defoe.

"The goals will come, they always do and I'm confident I've still got a future at Spurs," said the 30 year old.

Defoe is expected to start the North London clubs Premier League clash against Wigan Athletic tomorrow at White Hart Lane amongst the substitutes with Emmanuel Adebayor likely to keep his place in the starting lineup following his hat-trick against Dinamo Moscow midweek in the Europa League.
