Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has revealed his side will be favourites to beat Stoke City when the sides meet next month at White Hart Lane in the fourth round of the Capital One Cup.

Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas believes his side will be expected to beat fellow Premier League side Stoke City when the pair meet next month at White Hart Lane in the fourth round of the Capital One Cup after the draw for the fourth round was made last night, the Potters overcoming Hull City to book their place in the fourth round draw.

"The draw has been good, we can't complain because we'll play at home in front of our fans and we can beat Stoke. I think we'll be the favourites, I think the pressure will be on us to win this game," revealed Villas-Boas.

"We must be cautious and plan carefully for this game, we know how Stoke will play. They'll play tough football and be hard to beat, but as the home side we must try our best to win," added the Spurs boss.

Spurs have won five of their opening six games in all competitions under Villas-Boas, who took charge during the summer following the sacking of Harry Redknapp, the young and charismatic Portuguese manager praising his players for their professional approach and focus since the beginning of his reign.

"Every player has given it their all so far and for a manager this is fantastic to see. Each day is easy with the players in this moment because they have been focussed and our results have been good," said the 34 year old.

Tottenham Hotspur captain Michael Dawson has urged his team-mates to treat Liverpool with caution ahead of their clash at White Hart Lane tomorrow despite the Reds lingering inside the relegation zone.

Liverpool currently sit second from bottom in the Premier League after their opening five games under new manager Brendan Rodgers yielded a dismal three points, the Reds winless in their last five games in all competitions, their last victory against Serbian minnows Crvena Zvezda in their Europa League playoff.

http://i1259.photobucket.com/albums/ii557/khronaldo89/Spurs/Redswinlessin5_zpseb6e244e.png

Despite that poor form Spurs captain Michael Dawson has urged his team-mates to treat Liverpool with caution ahead of their clash at White Hart Lane tomorrow afternoon, the 28 year old defender warning that the Reds pose a real danger to their unbeaten start under new Portuguese manager Andre Villas-Boas.

"Liverpool are underperforming at the moment and they'd admit that, the table doesn't lie and they're in a bit of trouble right now. It's still early in the season though with a lot of games to be played so they've time to fix that and I'm sure they'll do just that because they're a big club with some great players," said Dawson.

"We've got to respect them despite their poor start and make sure we don't become the first to suffer defeat against them. If we don't turn up they will beat us and that would be the end of our unbeaten run under the new boss. That's obviously something we want to continue for as long as we can," added the Spurs skipper.

The Spurs skipper has played every minute of the clubs opening four Premier League games and the 28 year old defender is delighted that the club have started the season so well, the North London club boasting the meanest defence in England with just one goal conceded so far this season in the Premier League.

Liverpool remain winless and remain inside the Premier League relegation zone despite picking up a point at White Hart Lane as a Kyle Walker own goal cancelled out Gylfi Sigurdsson's first half opener.

Spurs fans have been left frustrated after Liverpool, who are winless in the Premier League this season, managed to pick up a point at White Hart Lane despite being second best throughout the pairs clash this afternoon.

An unfortunate own goal from Kyle Walker on the hour mark handed the Reds what many will call an undeserved point, the draw at White Hart Lane ending Spurs four game winning streak in all competitions.

Prior to kick off Spurs captain Michael Dawson had called on his team-mates to show the underperforming Liverpool respect and the hosts showed a level of professionalism that will have pleased manager Andre Villas-Boas despite dropping two points at home for the second time in the Premier League this season.

The first chance of the game presented itself to Spurs in the opening minute, a fantastic pass over the top by Gareth Bale cut the Liverpool defence open, striker Jermain Defoe unfortunate to see his stinging volley crash into the legs of Liverpool keeper Pepe Reina, the strikers woes continuing in front of goal.

Liverpool started poorly and should have fallen behind two minutes later when Bale picked out Mousa Dembele inside the area, however the Belgian international could only fire his effort straight at Reina.

The visitors were struggling to deal with Dembele, Bale and Gylfi Sigurdsson in midfield, the latter fouled twice in quick succession by Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard, referee Mike Dean left with no option but to book Gerrard.

It appeared likely that it was simply a matter of time before Spurs found the breakthrough and it came four minutes after the half hour mark, a dangerous cross from Bale from the left hand side was met by Sigurdsson, who rose high above Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel, the Icelandic international leaving Reina with little chance as his header clipped the underside of the bar before crossing the line.

The first half drew to a quiet ending with Spurs deservedly holding a one goal advantage, Sigurdsson's second goal of the season enough to send the hosts in at half time leading, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers left with a big task at half time, his side struggling inside the Premier League relegation zone and at White Hart Lane.

Brendan Rodgers pleased with point

After the half time break Spurs continued their dominance, Brazilian midfielder Sandro flashing an effort just wide of the post five minutes into the second half, the warning signs there for Liverpool. The Reds have been out of form this season and are in need of inspiration, their captain Steven Gerrard almost providing that as he attempted to chip Hugo Lloris from a distance, the England international forcing a save from the Spurs keeper.

A minute after Liverpool registered their first shot on target they were level, a free kick was only cleared as far as Jamie Carragher, the defender finding Glen Johnson out wide on the right hand side and when the full back fizzed a low cross into the area Spurs defender Kyle Walker was the unfortunate player to be in the way, the ball diverted wickedly beyond Lloris who couldn't readjust his feet in time to stop the ball crossing the line.

In the end that was enough for Liverpool, the Reds holding on to record another draw under manager Brendan Rodgers, the visitors lucky to have left White Hart Lane with a point whilst the hosts can certainly feel hard done by, manager Andre Villas-Boas appearing to have got the Spurs players playing an exciting and attacking brand of football, exactly what the fans at the North London club want and now the young Portuguese manager simply needs to turn those dominating performances into more resounding victories, Villas-Boas looking set for a lengthy stay at White Hart Lane, something that will provide him with a great sense of relief following his short and chaotic tenure at Stamford Bridge when he appeared to be at war with the clubs leading stars.

Certainly not happy about it considering we dominated the game and should have won by 2 or 3 goals.

Liverpool didn't deserve point says Walker

Tottenham Hotspur defender Kyle Walker believes that relegation threatened Liverpool didn't deserve a point following the pairs 1-1 Premier League draw yesterday at White Hart Lane.

Walker, 22, was the unfortunate villain as he diverted a low cross from Liverpool full back Glen Johnson past his own keeper Hugo Lloris to level proceedings on the hour mark yesterday at White Hart Lane.

The visitors were for large parts of the contest on the back foot, a combination of poor finishing from Spurs and some inspired saves from goalkeeper Pepe Reina helping the Reds secure a draw, although the result wasn't enough to move Brendan Rodgers side out of the Premier Leagues bottom three.

However the Spurs defender believes Liverpool didn't deserve the point they picked up at White Hart Lane yesterday and called on his team-mates to rebound quickly, Spurs facing Bundesliga side Hannover 96 on Thursday night at White Hart Lane in an important Europa League Group H clash.

"Anybody who understands football knows the game yesterday could have and should have been over by half time, we let ourselves and the fans down yesterday. It's very disappointing," stated Walker.

"The great thing is we've always got another game coming up and hopefully we can put in a good performance in our next game whilst getting the right result. Our next game won't be easy and I think we'll need to be at our very best to pick up all three points on offer, but we're confident we can do that and our performances so far this season have been very good," added the 22 year old defender.

"All I can really say about yesterdays game is Liverpool didn't deserve a point, they didn't do enough and we dominated the game. Unfortunately an own goal by myself gifted them a way back into the game and after that they defended well, but as I said the game should have been put to bed before half time."

Yeah man but these things happen, I'm just glad our performances have been consistently good.

We're sitting in fourth spot at the moment, I think top three is the aim for this season.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has called on struggling strikers Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor to take their chances after Liverpool picked up a point at White Hart Lane on Sunday.

Jermain Defoe and Emmanuel Adebayor are struggling for form according to statistics. Defoe has scored just two goals this season, a brace against Newcastle United last month, whilst Adebayor has so far failed to find the net in any competition following his summer move from Premier League champions Manchester City.

Spurs have however dropped just four points in the Premier League so far this season.

They also remain unbeaten in all competitions, have won all of their away games, boast a mean defence that has conceded just three goals in all competitions this season and occupy third spot on the Premier League table.

Despite his sides impressive start to the season Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas has called on Defoe and Adebayor to take their chances after Liverpool picked up a point at White Hart Lane on Sunday, the hosts wasting numerous chances to put the game beyond the struggling Reds after Gylfi Sigurdsson had broken the deadlock.

"Every team needs their strikers to score goals when they get the chances," said Villas-Boas.

"It's frustrating when you create many good chances but see your strikers fail to score, this can happen maybe once or twice, not all the time, it must improve if we're to continue winning games," added the Spurs boss.

"Jermain and Emmanuel must improve, they must start taking their chances, they know this, we've spoken about this and they feel the same way. They will continue to work hard in training everyday and in games, we look forward to seeing them scoring more regularly, after all that's what they are paid to do as strikers."

Tottenham Hotspur took control of Group H tonight as they beat Bundesliga side Hannover 96 convincingly at White Hart Lane in their Europa League clash as goals from Gylfi Sigurdsson, Younes Kaboul and Gareth Bale cancelled out an own goal from captain Michael Dawson.

Spurs took firm control of Group H tonight at White Hart Lane as they beat Hannover 96 at White Hart Lane.

The North London club now sit three points clear of Hannover 96 and Dinamo Moscow at the top of their Europa League group following a 3-1 win over the Bundesliga outfit, goals from Gylfi Sigurdsson, Younes Kaboul and Gareth Bale cancelling out an own goal from captain Michael Dawson.

Key midfielder Scott Parker made his first appearance of the season for Spurs in the contest and played 50 minutes before being replaced by Sandro, the England international almost at the end of his rehabilitation following an achilles tendon injury that has kept him sidelined for the opening two months of the season.

The hosts couldn't have enjoyed a better start against Hannover 96 as Parker picked out Gylfi Sigurdsson in midfield and with under a minute played at White Hart Lane the Icelandic international unleashed a stunning 25 yard effort to beat Ron-Robert Zieler in the Hannover 96 goal.

http://i1259.photobucket.com/albums/ii557/khronaldo89/Spurs/DidYouKnowSigurdsson_zpscf83de7e.png

Spurs enjoyed most of the early possession following that goal and they looked in control throughout the opening half hour. The hosts were perhaps unlucky to have not extended their lead as Emmanuel Adebayor headed narrowly wide of the post and Clint Dempsey struck the bar with a powerful volley.

As half time approached Hannover created their best chance of the game and they were fortunate to go into the break level, former Manchester United striker Mame Diouf finding space inside the area, the strikers effort blocked by Spurs skipper Michael Dawson, the ball looping up and over a stranded Brad Friedel, the North London club conceding an own goal for the second time in the space of just four days.

That setback didn't effect Spurs for to long as they again took the lead just five minutes after the half time break, a corner from Sigurdsson powerfully headed home by Younes Kaboul, the French defender netting his first goal of the season to put Spurs deservedly back in front in this important Group H Europa League clash.

Spurs had failed to put the game beyond Liverpool on Sunday in their Premier League clash and manager Andre Villas-Boas urged his team to continue looking for more goals after they'd taken the lead against their German opponents. There was to be no repeat of the Liverpool failure, a goal from Gareth Bale on the hour mark sealing victory for Spurs, the Welsh international slotting the ball between the legs of Zieler after Adebayor had released him into space following a smart give and go with Dempsey on the half way line.

Elsewhere in Group H Dinamo Moscow thrashed AZ Alkmaar 5-2 and the group now looks likely to be a three horse race after the Dutch side lost for the second consecutive time in Group H, although they had turned around a 2-0 deficit in Moscow and went into the half time break level with the hosts before a dismal second half ensured they remained rooted to bottom spot in Group H whilst Spurs have recorded back to back 3-1 wins to sit three points clear at the top, both Hannover 96 and Dinamo Moscow having won and lost a game each in Group H.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson says his recent form has been pleasing and the Icelandic international has praised manager Andre Villas-Boas for the impact he's had on his performances.

A return of three goals in just six appearances this season from Gylfi Sigurdsson has propelled the Spurs midfielder into a key role at White Hart Lane under new manager Andre Villas-Boas, the Icelandic international also contributing three assists for team-mates as Spurs continue their fine start to life under the Portuguese boss.

Sigurdsson, 23, has scored three goals in his last four appearances in all competitions and it would appear he has adjusted to life at White Hart Lane following his £8 million move from 1899 Hoffenheim during the summer.

Following the midfielders latest goal, a stunning 25 yard striker against Hannover 96 in the Europa League last night the Icelandic international has revealed he's pleased by his recent form for Spurs.

"My form has been very pleasing for me personally and I hope to keep playing well," stated the 23 year old.

"It's always great when you're helping team-mates score and when you're scoring yourself, every player wants to be doing those things and thankfully my form has been good. Hopefully I can continue to play well and impress the manager and fans with my performances," added Sigurdsson.

Aaron Lennon in need of a rest - Villas-Boas

Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas has revealed that winger Aaron Lennon is in need of a rest and may well miss the clubs Premier League clash with Reading at White Hart Lane tomorrow.

Spurs winger Aaron Lennon could be rested tomorrow when the North London club take on Reading at White Hart Lane after manager Andre Villas-Boas publicly revealed the 25 year old is in need of a rest.

The 25 year old has started all of the clubs Premier League and Europa League games so far this season, a total of seven starts so far and a substitute appearance against Reading in the third round of the Capital One Cup.

Villas-Boas was reluctant to admit the winger, who has scored three goals in his eight appearances this season, needed a rest, the Spurs boss eventually admitting he may leave Lennon out of his squad to face Reading tomorrow at White Hart Lane with Mousa Dembele or Clint Dempsey his likely replacement.

"Aaron has been working very hard and may need a rest tomorrow, the medical team have told me that it might be a good time to rest him and we'll see what happens tomorrow," stated Villas-Boas.

"I don't know if he can play, we'll see about that. You can see he's a very important player and we want him to play, but the season is long and we need him fit for the entire season so if he needs a rest for one game then he'll be given that rest. We have many players who can come in and do a good job," added the Spurs boss.

Spurs are unbeaten in all competitions this season and have won six of their opening eight games in all competitions under new manager Andre Villas-Boas. The North London club can move into third spot and too within a point of Premier League leaders Manchester City tomorrow if they beat Reading at White Hart Lane.

Tottenham Hotspur produced an efficient and dominating display earlier today as they trounced Reading in their Premier League clash at White Hart Lane to move into third spot on the league table.

Spurs closed the gap between themselves and Manchester City at the top of the Premier League to just a single point after they recorded a 3-0 win over Reading at White Hart Lane today, goals from Mousa Dembele, Emmanuel Adebayor and Andros Townsend securing the victory for the North London club.

The hosts went into the game full of confidence following their midweek victory over Hannover 96 in their midweek Group H Europa League clash and it took Spurs just nine minutes to break the deadlock, a long pass from goalkeeper Hugo Lloris flicked on into the path of Emmanuel Adebayor by Clint Dempsey, the Togolese striker sliding a pass in behind the Reading defence for Dembele to latch onto and the Belgian waited for Adam Federici to commit himself before confidently lifting the ball over the Reading number one.

Spurs looked likely to extend their lead with 21 minutes played at White Hart Lane, a header from Dempsey somehow kept out by Federici, the American international rising high to meet a Gylfi Sigurdsson corner.

Reading enjoyed their best part of the game in the following 10 minutes, defender Ian Harte firing a low free kick towards goal that forced Lloris into action, a corner from the Irishman minutes later grazing the header of Spurs skipper Michael Dawson and again Lloris was forced into action to keep Spurs slender lead intact.

Just past the half hour mark Sigurdsson smashed an effort off the Reading crossbar, the Icelandic international drawing groans from the home supporters with that effort, Spurs heading into the half time break deservedly leading by a single goal at White Hart Lane.

It took the North London club just four minutes to extend their lead after the break, a wayward back pass from Danny Guthrie was picked up by Adebayor who rode the challenge from Alex Pearce to pick out Dempsey with a smart flick, the return pass from the midfielder giving the striker a one on one chance against Federici, the Spurs striker making no mistake as he powered a left footed shot beyond the outstretched hand of the Reading keeper.

After falling two behind there was never going to be a way back into the game for Reading and in the end they did well to only concede once more as Spurs continued to create chances. In the end Spurs did get another, substitute Andros Townsend, who was making not only his Premier League debut but also his Spurs debut, making a fine run in behind Russell Martin, a finely threaded pass by Sandro picking out the 21 year old who made no mistake as he settled himself before placing a well struck right footed effort beyond Federici.

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Andros Townsend has labelled his Premier League debut as a dream come true after he scored in the North London clubs 3-0 win over Reading yesterday at White Hart Lane.

At 21 years of age Andros Townsend has finally made his Premier League debut for Spurs, the midfielder coming on as a second half substitute against Reading yesterday at White Hart Lane and Townsend enjoyed a debut to remember as he capped his debut with a goal in the 3-0 victory.

Townsend has played for eight other clubs during his time at Spurs making a total of 89 appearances whilst on loan at Yeovil Town, Leyton Orient, MK Dons, Ipswich Town, Watford, Millwall and Leeds United.

After making his Premier League debut yesterday for Spurs the England U21 international said his debut at White Hart Lane was a dream come true, the 21 year old praising manager Andre Villas-Boas for showing faith in him.

"Making my debut for Spurs has been the only thing I've been working towards for the last six years of my life, all the hard work was worth it for a day like yesterday, it was a dream come true," revealed Townsend.

"Obviously to cap it off with a goal was fantastic, it's something I'll never forget," added the midfielder.

"I can't thank the manager enough, he's put faith in me and given me the opportunity. I'm glad I produced a good performance, hopefully I can make a few more appearances this season and help the side win more games. I can never repay the manager for what he's done, he's made a dream come true for me," stated the 21 year old.

Under pressure Tottenham Hotspur striker Emmanuel Adebayor has spoken about the relief he felt when he scored his first goal of the season in all competitions against Reading at White Hart Lane on Sunday.

Just days after Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas criticised Emmanuel Adebayor for his failure in front of goal so far this season the striker responded netting four minutes after half time as the North London club beat Reading 3-0 at White Hart Lane on Sunday in their Premier League clash.

That strike was Adebayor's first of the season in all competitions, five appearances yielding no goals for the Togolese striker, the 28 year old struggling to recapture the form he produced last season whilst on loan at Spurs when a fantastic return of 17 goals in 33 Premier League appearances convinced the club to pay Manchester City a transfer fee worth a reported £5 million to secure his services on a four year deal.

After scoring his first league goal of the season yesterday Adebayor said a big pressure had been lifted off his shoulders, the striker confident more goals will follow in the near future after he broke his drought.

"As a striker you're expected to score, you want to score and the team needs you to score, it's your job. So when the goals are going in everybody is happy, but once they dry up things become harder," said Adebayor.

"Getting off the mark is important, thankfully it only lasted a few games and didn't drag on. I feel fit and confident, I'm sure many more goals will come now I got the first, I'll score more often now," added the striker.

Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas says his start to life at White Hart Lane has been enjoyable and the young Portuguese boss has praised his players for their superb unbeaten start to the season.

After nine games in all competitions, six in the Premier League, two in the Europa League and one in the Capital One Cup it's safe to say that Spurs have started their season in good form. From those nine games Spurs have won seven, drawn two and remain unbeaten in all competitions under manager Andre Villas-Boas.

Spurs have also enjoyed themselves in front of goal scoring 17 times whilst they've been resolute in defence and have conceded just four times in all competitions, captain Michael Dawson and Jan Vertonghen striking up a formidable partnership in the centre of the defence that has laid a superb platform for Spurs attacking players.

The North London club currently sit third in the Premier League just a single point behind champions and league leaders Manchester City. Spurs have also enjoyed a superb start in the Europa League after recording 3-1 wins over AZ Alkmaar and Hannover 96 to move into top spot in Group H, whilst a 2-0 win over Reading in the third round of the Capital One Cup at White Hart Lane setup a fourth round showdown with Stoke City.

Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas delighted with the start his side have made to the season, the young Portuguese boss enjoying his time at White Hart Lane, results suggesting he was the right choice to replace Harry Redknapp.

"The start to life at the club has been fantastic and we're in a good position right now. We've started well in every competition and we've performed well consistently, it's been very pleasing," said the Spurs manager.

"Maybe we could score more goals, that's the only thing we can talk about, scoring more goals because we create many good chances in games. Our defence has been great and that is something we're very proud of, a strong defence gives you the chance to win games when you don't play as well, it's vital. All the big sides concede few goals, that's what we need to continue doing and we'll win games," added Villas-Boas.

French international Hugo Lloris says his move from Olympique Lyonnais to Tottenham Hotspur during the summer for £9 million was the right one following their impressive start to the season.

Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has described his move from Olympique Lyonnais to the Premier League club as perfect and completely right, the 25 year old happy with life at White Hart Lane.

"Moving from Lyon was always going to be hard and challenging because I'd enjoyed four very good years with the club. I knew I had to choose the right place for me to come to develop as a footballer and Spurs was the perfect choice, the right choice for me and I don't doubt that decision at all," stated Lloris.

Despite speculation during the summer linking the French international with a move to the likes of Arsenal and Barcelona the 25 year old choose Spurs, the North London club eventually completing a £9 million deal for Lloris.

Regardless of who else was interested the goalkeeper says he never doubted the move to Spurs was the right one, Lloris revealing he turned down a move to Barcelona in favour of signing for Spurs.

"It's true Barcelona wanted me during the summer but I wanted to join Spurs, that was never in doubt for me and I'm glad in the end the deal was done. The Premier League is the best league in the world and Spurs are a club who want to improve in every competition, they want to win trophies," added Lloris.

The French goalkeeper has appeared in all six of the North London clubs Premier League fixtures this season and has been a part of a mean Spurs defence that has been penetrated on just two occasions in the Premier League this season. Lloris is yet to appear in the Europa League or Capital One Cup for Spurs as manager Andre Villas-Boas has preferred veteran goalkeeper Brad Friedel in those competitions.

Spurs occupy third spot on the Premier League ladder and currently sit a point behind champions and Premier League leaders Manchester City who have played a game more than the North London club.

Tottenham Hotspur captain Michael Dawson says he and his team-mates are confident they can beat Manchester United when the sides meet on Saturday at White Hart Lane in a Premier League blockbuster.

Spurs resume Premier League duties this Sunday with a blockbuster clash against Manchester United at White Hart Lane and will put their unbeaten run on the line when they take on the Red Devils.

The North London club are level on points with United currently with goal difference the only thing separating the pair, although United have played a game more than Spurs so far in the Premier League. The Red Devils will head into the game on the back of a defeat in their last Premier League outing, a 2-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge at the hands of Chelsea not the best preparation for Sir Alex Ferguson's men as their clash with Spurs draws closer.

Spurs are unbeaten in all competitions this season and full of confidence according to skipper Michael Dawson.

"This weekends game against United is huge, it's one of the biggest fixtures in English football, every player wants to play against the best and Manchester United have been one of the best for a very long time," said Dawson.

"We know it'll be a tough game and we must perform well to get a result on Sunday," added the defender.

"All I can say is we've prepared well and we're confident we can beat United. I've no doubt the boys will make it extremely difficult for United on Sunday and it's got the makings of a Premier League classic," stated Dawson.
