This file will need to be re-applied if/when official patches/updates are released to ensure full compatibility. This is due to the fact that some files which are removed when installing this file are automatically re-installed by Steam when official patches come out.

Some of these changes, ESPECIALLY THE CLUB NAMES, do NOT apply in FM Touch or in existing save-games. There's a workaround for that in the first post.

The sortitoutsi real names fix changes the instances of fake names in Football Manager 2020 to the proper, real life names for awards, cities, stadiums and competitions, in cases where the actual name is not licensed, such as Champions League, Europa League and Premier League displaying instead of EURO Cup, EURO Vase and Premier Division respectively. It will also fix the fact that the German and Japanese National teams don't call up real players and that the Bayern Munich and Borussia Mönchengladbach managers have fake names. These are all fully save-game compatible.

There is also a club name changes file, which changes the names of clubs in a way which ensures that any nicknames entered in the default database are retained. This file includes the proper names for Brazilian, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian (including Juventus) and French clubs to circumvent licensing restrictions. It also adds real-life media and journalists, encompassing most major footballing nations and continents. Brazilian clubs' text colours are also changed through an editor data file. Finally, it includes a small file which corrects the 3-Letter competition names to correspond with any changes made in the lnc files. For all the files in this paragraph to work, however, you will need to start a new game.

Follow the below instructions to install this version of this file

STEP 1.

Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Football Manager 2020\data\database\db\2000

depending on your set up.

Mac
OPEN

You can find these folders by clicking, in the Finder, the Go menu in the menu bar, then choose Go to Folder and type the folder path name (obviously inserting your username), then click Go.

You can get to the Library folder by simply selecting Go from the top bar and holding "alt" key - The Library folder suddenly appears on the drop down

For Mac Lion users, the Library folder will be hidden. Use this link to find out how to show it.

For those struggling to find the Steam and Steam Apps folder etc using Mac with the new OS High Sierra, this link below shows how you can unhide your Library folder which will then let you find the other folders.

Slightly more detail in this post

STEP 2:
COPY the dbc, edt and lnc folders from the downloaded pack

STEP 3:
PASTE them into each of your respective folders mentioned in step 1.

These are what the respective folder structures should look like in the 2040 folder:

dbc: https://i.imgur.com/je40Ajx.png
dbc/permanent: https://i.imgur.com/1FH8ABp.png
edt/permanent: https://i.imgur.com/aat5BqX.png
lnc: https://i.imgur.com/a87Z77C.png

STEP 4:
COPY the 8 files located in the EDITOR DATA FILES folder in the downloaded pack

STEP 5
PASTE to
\Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2020\editor data

\Documents\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2020\\GAMEPASS\editor data

Users/YOUR Mac USERNAME/Library/Application Support/Sports Interactive
By default this folder is hidden, so to access you need to do as follows:

Open Finder
Click ‘Go’ from the menubar
Press and hold down the ‘Option’ (Alt) key
This will bring up the ‘Library’, click to enter then go to ‘Application Support’ -> ‘Sports Interactive’ -> ‘Football Manager 2020’

This should be what your editor data folder looks like now. There may initially be a config.xml file in this folder and it can be safely overwritten; it is generated by FM every time the game starts.

https://i.imgur.com/u8XTmoc.png

To make sure the files have been applied correctly, go to the Champions Cup and EURO Vase in your saved game, and they should be renamed to Champions League and Europa League respectively. If you are in the middle of a save-game, Japanese national teams will be populated in the next instance that players are called up, and not immediately. Do keep in mind that this file does not add Japan-based players, who are not in the official database and will need a third-party add-on to be created and added.

Club names are only changed if you apply the editor data files before starting a new game. For a workaround if you've already started a new save-game, then please read the opening post of this thread.

Sorry for the dumb question, but cannot find 2010 in a search. On step 1 on the DB folders, you talk about the 2000 folder and 2001 folder deleting the dbc, edt, and inc folders -- do we leave the 2010 folder alone? or do the same with it? (or is this the same as it was last year, where it only needed to be in 2 of the folders but not all 3)

Do exactly the same with the 2010 folder yes. That's just the new database, from the most recent game version (20.1).

The 2010 folder structure needs to be similar to the other 2 as well

Guys , why i can't open .fmf file in notepad ? I want open FM20_Sortitoutsi_Licenses_Fix_-_Club_Name_Changes to change , but there is instead of text hieroglyphs....

You can only open fmf files with the editor (you can use the FM19 editor to do so). You can only open edt and lnc files with Notepad

I've released a new version of the file with some very minor changes. I've just placed all the existing Juve-related changes in a single file and changed the installation instructions as well as the folder screenshots to reflect the release of the new hotfix for the beta.

@Qvordrup, thanks for those - pity you couldn't send them slightly earlier cos I'd have added them to the latest release

Any more you find, do let me know as early as possible so I can add them to the file to be released when the full game comes out

I use PC, so I wouldn't know how exactly it differes from the Mac version.
Otherwise, I would gladly help.

Hopefully there's someone who is familiar with FM on Mac and who can compile you, or refer you to, an easy step-by-step guide.

You don't delete the whole folder, just the dbc, edt & Inc ones inside. Then replace them with the new dbc, edt & Inc that you have downloaded.

Does this video help at all? It's for FM13, but the steps are broadly similar. If it's still not helpful, get in touch with me via PM, I may have an alternative suggestion

The editor data files are done with the FM19 editor and on the FM19 data. For the time being, and until the game and the editor are officially available, I cannot make changes to clubs newly-added to the FM20 database, of which I have a handful in hand already. I'll also need to sift quickly through the files to see if there's any other changes which need doing.

That said, any changes will presumably be quite minor in nature and you should be able to use the current files in the full FM20 release

If you're going for the club name changes via the lnc file, you have to remove the # from that line of code. The hashtag is the file's way of telling the game to ignore that line, so if it's still there, it just can't work.

Alternatively, if you want to change a club name which is already changed in the fmf file, you'd have to do so with the editor. That's because changes in the fmf file take precedence over any changes in lnc files.

Could anyone explain to me or indicate how can I apply the license fix on an iPad? Couldn’t find any explanations on what steps to install on iOS.

As I don't have an iPad, I'm afraid I can't really help or add much more to what Fidney has already told you in this thread...

Hi all, recently downloaded FM20, and trying to install the licensing and real name fix. Just one problem - I don't have the "Football Manager 2020" folder. When i go to
Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\ i can see Football Manager 2019 and Football Manager 2019 Editor. Has the 2020 folder been moved to a new location?

Many thanks

As @VP. said, it must be there Otherwise FM wouldn't be installed

To find the exact path go to your Games menu in Steam, right-click on FM20 and select properties. Choose the local files tab and click on browse local files. It'll take you to the right path
