This file will need to be re-applied if/when official patches/updates are released to ensure full compatibility. This is due to the fact that some files which are removed when installing this file are automatically re-installed by Steam when official patches come out.
Some of these changes, ESPECIALLY THE CLUB NAMES, do NOT apply in existing save-games. There's a workaround for that in the first post.
The sortitoutsi real names fix changes the instances of fake names in Football Manager 2023 to the proper, real life names for awards, cities, stadiums and competitions, in cases where the actual name is not licensed, such as Premier League displaying instead of Premier Division. It will also fix the fact that the German and Japanese National teams don't call up real players. These are all fully save-game compatible.
There is also a club name changes file, which changes the names of clubs in a way which ensures that any nicknames entered in the default database are retained. This file includes the proper names for Brazilian, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian (including Napoli) and French clubs, as well as Manchester Utd, to circumvent licensing restrictions. It also adds real-life media and journalists, encompassing most major footballing nations and continents. Brazilian clubs' text colours are also changed through an editor data file. Another editor data file creates the Ajax non-playing staff and the German national team manager missing from the database due to licensing restrictions. Finally, it includes a small file which corrects the 3-Letter competition names to correspond with any changes made in the lnc files. For all the files in this paragraph to work, however, you will need to start a new game.

The easiest way to get to these folders is by going to Finder > Go > Go to Folder and copy and paste these exact paths and you will be taken to the right places ~/Library/Application Support/Steam/steamapps/common/Football Manager 2023/data/database/db/2300/

Alternatively you can get to the Library folder by simply selecting Go from the top bar and holding "alt" key - The Library folder suddenly appears on the drop down menu

If you can't find where your Xboxgames folder is, you can find it by clicking on “More actions” button (three dots that appears when you move your mouse cursor over Football Manager 2023 on Xbox app), then “Manage” → “Files” tab → “Browse…” button.

By default this folder is hidden, so to access you need to do as follows:
Open Finder
Click ‘Go’ from the menubar
Press and hold down the ‘Option’ (Alt) key
This will bring up the ‘Library’, click to enter then go to ‘Application Support’ -> ‘Sports Interactive’ -> ‘Football Manager 2023’

This should be what your editor data folder looks like now. There may initially be a config.xml file in this folder and it can be safely overwritten; it is generated by FM every time the game starts.
To make sure the files have been applied correctly, go to English Premier Division in your saved game, and it should be renamed to Premier League. If you are in the middle of a save-game when you install this download, Japanese and German national teams will be populated in the next instance that players are called up, and not immediately. Do keep in mind that this file does not add Japan-based players, who are not in the official database and will need a third-party add-on to be created and added.
Club names are only changed if you apply the editor data files before starting a new game. For a workaround if you've already started a new save-game, then please read the opening post of this thread.

When installing this download, you're asked to delete the dbc, edt and lnc folders, and install the ones from this download instead. However, you seem to have merged the folders from this download into the existing ones, which means the files won't work as intended, because the licensing-related files that this download deletes are thus still there.

This fixed the Roma name change, but changed Man Utd to “Man UFC” and also changed Napoli to its fake name.

Forgive me for my ignorance but I've just installed the 23.3 update (or whatever the latest major one was) and I've re-downloaded and re-applied the real names fix and for some reason, all of the leagues are back to having their correct names, except the Premier League. On the player history screen it displays correctly as ‘Premier League’ but on the actual league screen it shows as ‘Premier Division’. How do I fix this, I've tried going into the file and renaming it and then saving it again but it doesn't seem to want to change it, I'm a bit stumped.
As you can see on the screenshots, the player screen says Premier League, but the league screen shows Premier Division…
If this has been addressed already, I apologise, but I'm struggling to find where I go to search a particular thread. Any help would be appreciated!

If you compare the screenshots in the main post with yours, you'll see that they aren't the same. I'm not sure what happened, but perhaps you merged the folders from this download into the ones on your system.
You need to delete the dbc, edt and lnc folders from your system. Then replace them with the ones from this download.

I have followed the instructions to the letter but in my save game the German & Japan national teams are not real names. It worked on the first 2300 original db but not on 2330. When I do start a new game however both these national teams have real players. Is there a fix for this?

Make sure both the 2300 and 2330 folders look like the screenshots in the main post. If you think that's the case, can I have screenshots of all these folders?

Yes becasue FM updates automativally and I wasn't aware at the time it had been updated to 233o

It's not just Roma. I don't know WHAT happened with licencing and serie A in the last few weeks, but the game is a complete mess as a result of it.
I've had a pretty rubbish weekend and wanted to spend the last couple of hours unwinding on the virtual pitch and find… this. Next time SI says “We have an update for you”, I think I might just change the locks.

This has been the case since day one, which is why this file exists. If you apply this fix before starting a new game, all is solved. If you apply this fix after a save game is started, all you need to do is follow the workaround in the first post, which shouldn't take you more than a few seconds, and all would be solved.

The game assigns graphics to a team's Unique ID, which remains constant irrespective of licensing issues. Naturally, it will depend on what logopack you use and whether they include the logo you're lookin for, but there shouldn't be any issue at all with logos displaying merely because you downloaded the official patch.

Good point. Before this evening I have never used a logopack, and just used the “vanilla” ones. Facepack? Yes. Real names patch? Yes. But a logopack… no. I've just started to download one which I'm hoping will resolve the problem. (I had planned to start a new save tonight anyway, so that's not an issue.)

No i didn't, i'm starting a new save. Nicknames are working for other countries. And everything else is working just fine so i cant figure why french clubs dont have nicknames anymore
Edit : i looked at the city club and stadium names.lnc file and i've deleted all the “France in french” section and let the previous one with the “” instead of “french”
Now it's working like a charm

Hey @mons you should consider making an upgrade based on the latest FM patch, they also add a bunch of wonderkids (like Arsenal's Ethan Nwaneri) which are not available when I install your latest version of the fix
