Rumours that (ex-Hull) Geovanni could be signing for Tampines Rovers in Singapore, would probably be the biggest signing in Singapore football in recent times.

Speaks a fair bit about the S-League though. :\

A self-sustaining, successful football league is not built around old, foreign has-beens. I wouldn't be too worried.

This is a league which has seriously considered fining teams who finish in the wrong end of the table for next season.

I'm just glad they learnt from the A-League and included a Marquee player slot for the teams, beats punishing teams already without the financial clout to improve their squad, with more financial handicaps.

The MLS has been since about 5 years ago and that's doing better than ever.

The MLS has been since about 5 years ago and that's doing better than ever.

The only reason the MLS has survived for as long as it has is that it has learnt from the mistakes of the NASL.

The MLS has built their league around young American talent, the DP's are nothing more than expensive sideshows, available only to a small fraction of the teams in the league. The success of the league in markets like Columbus, Seattle and Toronto has nothing to do with them.

Since Beckham has joined the MLS the gate income has risen drastically. Average attendances have risen 20%, overtaking hockey and basketball.

Viewing figures around the world have increased dramatically since then. No one in Europe watched MLS until Beckham joined.

High profile players, specifically Beckham, have had a massive impact on the league. The league would be nowhere near this level with out them. There's a reason why these teams pay these players so much and why the MLS bend over backwards to get them.

What Flash said.

It's all about marketing and its neccesary for a League like the MLS to have these big draw players as it gives the league a profile which ultimately gets more people inside the stadium. You need a core of young homegrown talent too but to say the league is built on that is silly, if the league was just full of those players nobody would watch the games and the league would get no publicity.

America is also an established country, so in terms of the pulling power of general life as a celebrity sportsperson, living in New York or Los Angeles is a much better prospect than other lesser leagues with less desirable locations that offer more money.

Some bloke on Sky Germany has apparently claimed we're going to sign Huntelaar in January. I'd butcher a thousand kittens to see it happen.

We need another striker regardless of how good Giroud has been. If he gets injured we're buggered.

David Moyes in the stands at the Molde - FC København game. I'd expect Vegard Forren to be presented as new Everton player in short time, Moyes was present at Norway's win against Hungary during the latest int. break as well.

Podolski, Walcott, Gervinho, Chamakh?

I can't see Huntelaar wanting to sit on the bench and it would be stupid benching Giroud when he's finally coming good.

Says it all about modern football that a striker can be written off and then come good 10 games into his first season.

About time. Stupid time though with a match tomorrow, unless 'Arry's coming in today.

'Arry is coming in on Sunday apparently. It makes sense too:

1) QPR play badly and get hammered: "Well the players were understandably out of form following the news of Marks Hughes' sacking"
2) QPR play decent enough - "The players really wanted to show their ability and determination and give a good performance to thank Mark for his efforts"

If they did this today then surely Fernandes knew long ago Hughes wasn't going to be in charge for the United game so he could've sacked him after the last game and given 'Arry a whole week to do interviews from car windows and work with the players. Although I suppose when they lose to United it won't be a losing start for 'Arry.

The timing doesn't matter. United would spank them whoever's in charge. QPR are shit at the moment.

I really think you guys are underestimating our ability to play Giggs and Scholes in midfield together and make an absolute meal of it.

Not sure any club above Europa League level would take Walcott as a striker, mind.

Fair point.

Mind you, I wouldn't be surprised if you did that and QPR still managed to lose. Mark Bowen and Eddie Nyswzckiziwi (something like that) aren't much better than Hughes.
