Both that and the Townsend ones are premature.

2 good games gets you a call up these days, its a sign of how low the standards have slipped.

Well they've slipped for a while now then seeing it's happened with Walcott and Rooney when they where 'premature'

Rooney got his first team cap on the 23rd February 2003 after making his debut on 17 August 2002. So basically half a season of impressive performances after making his debut Walcott went to the World Cup too early, as we all probably remember, and did nothing.

But yes it's been happening for a while and it's stupid. Sterling, Zaha, Barkley, Townsend and any other rubbish call ups based on 2 or 3 games of promise need to stop, a settled core of internationals which can then be supplemented by players who have knocked on the door and made a case for selection beyond 'Young, English, hyped by the media and played a few games' is the way to go.

If you make wearing the England shirt something that's an actual achievement maybe it might mean something to those that wear it.

I've got no problem with it, although I'd agree it might be a bit early. We need fresh blood in the national side.

Basically that is what has become of our Australian cricket team now. Is a bit of a joke.

England skipper Steven Gerrard says he backs plans by Football Association chairman Greg Dyke to boost the number of English players in the top flight.

Dyke has set up a commission to improve England's chances at major tournaments.

The FA chief has suggested increasing the number of English players in the Premier League from 36% to 50%.

"Credit to him, he's trying to put a structure in place to improve the statistics of English players coming through," Gerrard said.

That bit in bold is the most important thing, the FA want to improve the statistics, nothing about improving the quality

I would have had Wilshere in for Lampard but am relatively happy with that side. Townsend deserves his place and I'm excited to see how Rooney and Sturridge link up.

I just think it's depressingly hilarious that another manager has come in looked at all the previous failures and then decided on the completely insane idea to try the same thing again with players who are shadows of their former selves.

Made worse by the fact that even if we do make it the tournament we're almost guaranteed to be involved in the worst games, putting in some horrific performances and then do all the same things again leading up to the Euro's

We just seem to be showing so little ambition with regards to trying young players and more attacking football. I'd rather see us fail whilst mixing things up a bit instead of failing whilst trying the same thing over and over again.

That's the thing, I don't think any of us really expect England to do anything of note in our lifetimes and certainly not any time soon so it would be nice to see us try and play a brand of football that at least makes us proud of the team.

Rodgers, Martinez, Laudrap even Pochettino and Adkins managed to get Premiership players far inferior to the ones in this England squad playing more exciting football. They're good enough and it would be a real shame if some of the youngsters coming through who do have a bit of flair about them were forced to play in such a restrictive manner.

He's looked to beat his man, which is at least something.

Lacking creativity through the middle at the minute, despite our possession Rooney and Sturridge have seen nothing of the ball.

Get Wilshere on. I like Lampard but he's can't offer enough sitting as deep as he does. At least Wilshere will run at the defense and try and make something happen.

Watching England is so depressing, its not like we have the odd bad game now and again. Its the same boring shite every match and lets be completely honest, we don't have a hope in hell of winning a major competition the way things are.
