I'd be happy with finishing in the top 4 next season. And yeah we need to improve our squad depth. Basically anyone gets injured from our starting 11 and someone shite has to come in (look at Flanagan).

It's not just that but Liverpool genuinely looked rattled once they weren't able to score early. It's not really been a position they've encountered often this season, but the way the approached it this time around really played to Chelsea's strengths and Liverpool's weaknesses. Far too many aerial contests that suited the taller Chelsea defenders and with the middle being so congested it made it harder for those little balls in behind most times. Liverpool lacked a plan B, which somewhat surprised me.

Aye, Gerrard was trying to make amends for his error by shooting every time he got the ball within 35 yards of the goal. Seriously poor performance from him yesterday.

To be fair, its hard to break down a side with 10 men behind the ball everytime we attack

I don't think you understand the value of defensive discipline, my friend.

I don't have a problem at all with how Mourinho sets up his teams but if he's going to do it then he can go complaining when other teams do it against his sides, thats why people are so vocal about how Chelsea go into games.

Agree with what Tony Cascarino said today on SPN - we should have sat back and passed Chelsea to death. Let them attack us. All we had to do was not lose. Huge learning lesson for Rodgers. He's still young so he'll learn. He should have expected Chelsea to have been so defensive. Nevertheless CL football guaranteed so successful season in my eyes already.

Naah dont get me wrong, it was tactically the right choice and your players executed it perfectly. Just a bit shitty he had a go at West Ham, then plays the same stuff. Also very shitty to lose to.

Which is why, no offence, I am hoping Atletico tear you guys a new one

Except Mourinho said he'd do the same thing as Big Sam if he was in the position West Ham were in. Hardly hypocritical

Agree with Sears. BR is young, still has to learn and clearly was outfoxed by Mou. But all is ok, top 3 guaranteed for this season is excellent. Wanted title this season more for Gerrard but he shot himself in the foot so.. eh.

I love how Liverpool plays, to me is does matter how my team is playing, but I have to agree with some folk here: sometimes you gotta play for result's sake only (sometimes).

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers will trim his squad this summer, with a number of youngsters expected to leave Anfield. Suso, who has been on loan at Almeria, will be the headline name to depart, though Luis Alberto and Iago Aspas will go as well.

Any truth to this? I mean I can see Aspas and Alberto going, but surely not Suso

Not sure why we would sell Alberto, he's still very young. I'd rather we loan him out for the season and see how he gets on elsewhere. But yeah, Aspas can leave, he's awful.

Any chance of Sunderland getting Borini permanently? Or are they pissing into the wind?

Guess it depends if we sell Suarez or not... I'd let him go (Suarez) for that 100m pounds that is being reported now and keep Borini.

Wouldn't sell Suarez for anything less than £100 million. Really don't want to see him go though.

Had completely forgot that after 19 games last season, we were behind Everton and only 2 points infront of Man Utd.

Loic Remy fails Liverpool medical.

So, more action for Borini?

Did you watch Premiership Years yesterday by any chance? I thought the same thing whilst watching it.

The Remy deal is unlucky, he'd have been a good signing. Not sure where they'll look now but £8.5m for him would have been a cracking deal. They'll have to pay more for someone else and possibly not proven in England.

Aye, shame. We found out that he wasn't a Southampton player though, which proved to be a stumbling block.

Steeeeeevieeeee Meeeee is fantastic

“I’ve been through the pain in the dressing room after and in the weeks and months since. I just stumbled across it. It didn’t hide away. I have TVs in my house and I read papers. There is social media. When something like that happens you have to face up and be man enough to take it on the chin. Accept it happened. You can’t change it.

“I haven’t lost my man at a set-piece. I haven’t missed a penalty. I haven’t made a bad pass or a mistake.* That’s why it was cruel. Every single person on the planet slips at some point in their life, whether it is on a set of stairs, on the floor or whatever.

“For me, it happened on the pitch at a really bad moment. But over the course of 38 games a lot happens for you and against you and that determines whether you win the league or not. That moment happened at a crucial time and I have to face that. And I will do.”

*Except from when I miss controlled the pass in the first place and then set up Luis Suarez with a header in the world cup.
