The owner had a divorce last year/this year and lost £4bn to his now ex-wife and has basically decided to pull out of football.

Not sure anyone would be willing to pay what they want with him just coming back from a serious knee injury. This way, they get £12m loan fee, his ~£300k wages off the books, and then United might buy him next summer, or at least if he has a good season, somebody will.

Tbh, I think its as much a case of no one really being available to improve what we've got as much as anything.
We signed Rojo, reportedly interested in Benatia but he wanted CL football. Hummels won't leave, City got Mangala wrapped up early on. Not sure what else there really is.

There are many non-elite players out there who would still offer improvements on Evans, Smalling and Jones (which is your strongest back 3). Plus Rojo's not a CB really, and neither is Daley Blind (is that still on?)

Pretty sure Rojo was a central defender who has been moved to fullback only recently.

Well Rojo's spent his entire career playing centre back apart from the World Cup, not sure what else you'd call him. And Blind's the holding midfield player we desperately need (who can also cover left back).
I don't think Evans-Smalling-Jones are as bad as all that. I'd take someone like Vlaar as a back up, maybe, but I don't think he'd force his way into the team. Nastastic would do a job, but City obviously wouldn't sell.
Actually, Miranda we were linked to earlier in the summer would have been good, but I'm not sure if Atletico would let anyone else leave. Or Garay, actually, seeing as we were linked to him for the last 10,000 years, not sure if he's as good as all that though given where he's moved to.

As for Falcao its hard not to feel happy about it, but at the same time it does seem a bit needless, unless the reports about RVP are true. Also we have no idea if he is gonna be the same after his injury

Good move for him though, will allow him to get some regular football into him. Does leave us a little light centrally though, so I imagine this will give Ake and possibly Baker and Boga some potential first team action too at some stage.
