If we sign Diego Costa,we're going to have the most abhorrent attacking trio in the Premiership - Suarez bites people,Aspas headbutts and elbows them and Costa throws boogers at them.Diego Costa also tried to bite Sergio Ramos' finger

When Liverpool handed out that list of banned words to their security staff recently, did that apply to the players as well as the fans?

I normally record MOTD on Sky+ to watch on Sunday morning, I just skip through the analysis between games.
I find if I record it and then watch it half an hour later, I've caught up with regular transmission by the last game.

They don't half badger on a bit.

Championship
Winners: Reading
Promoted: Watford, Bolton (play-offs)

League One
Winners: Bristol City
Promoted: Peterborough, Sheffield United (play-off jinx finally over)

League Two
Winners: Portsmouth
Promoted: Scunthorpe, Northampton or Oxford, Exeter (play-offs)

I'm quite confused. Have Newcastle released their home kit?

Officially, no, but Puma's US shop is selling our new home kit, and our U21 team have worn it in games. It is this:

The Ricoh really is the worst of the modern stadia, although whether the club's on-field fortunes have something to do with that I don't know. Crowds have dropped since the Highfield Road days (20,000+ every week, I think), the club's revenues have plummeted due to the business agreements they've been involved with, and now there's the prospect of playing at Northampton. It's enough to put anyone off building a new ground.

Just if anyone knows, how was the ground originally funded? Was it 100% CCFC, or was there local council input?

I think I posted this ages ago, but I remember reading they needed help from the local council after they started building and ran into financial difficulties. I may also be right in saying that the council are part-owners of ACL.

You could probably write a whole book on this sorry mess, and with any luck it'll avoid the tragic ending it seems hurtling toward.

It is - I went there with the Toon for a Carling Cup tie in 2008, when they were a Championship side, and even then they were struggling to pull in that much above half the stadium. League One just means more empty seats. Its not that bad a ground but I don't think they should have left Highfield Road.

The only time it ever gets close to selling out is gigs - the venue record is for Coldplay, while Springsteen and Muse pulled more this summer than pretty much all individual CCFC home games.

I find it hard to believe any transfer gossip on any major deal like these because there is so little quotation from official sources and what there is isn't revealing much. So its basically fermenting into a beast based on half-truths to fill the dead air - moreso than ever given there's more air to fill.

I mean, Marca is saying today that Spurs want £125M for Bale. That is stupid cash.

i now present you with the 2nd worst kits behind Liverpool for this season.

Fuck off.

Terrible advertising does not help. The home kit looks reasonable but yes, the away kit does look disastrous.

Not with their squad. Johnson will get them playing as a team. They don't have the quality that we had when Johnson got us up.

Would be hilarious if it happened. Plus the Championship is a crazy division so why not?

I accept it's incredibly unlikely though.

Last year my picks were Blackpool (nowhere near), Bolton (should've sacked Coyle sooner) and Birmingham (too inconsistent).

I've seen people claim QPR as favourites but seeing as Redknapp has slagged off their squad again I can't imagine things going well there. Reading and Wigan look better shouts, though I'd imagine Watford, Bolton and Forest up there. I thought Pearson was a gonner after blowing automatic so how he's still at Leicester is quite baffling.

But yeah, it is a tricky division to predict. Hell, six more wins last season would've taken now-League One Wolves into the play-offs (17 points separated them in 23rd from 6th placed Leicester). So, who knows? Maybe Yeovil will get promoted again. That would be something.

Seriously?

Somebody has to lose out. Logic dictates the team of last season's top 4 most likely to not finish back there is Arsenal but Wenger seems to have ring-fenced permanent UCL for them and, hey, who knows. Weirder things have happened and its not exactly guaranteed things will pan out the way they appear.

Still, if Spurs lose Bale, the top 4 becomes fairly predictable.

Bristol City vs Rangers a while ago was called the "Blackthorn Cup" for the same reason that the Wonga derby is such.

Aye I saw the photos - for a second I thought it was a Robins training match before the brain realised Rangers had Blackthorn as sponsors. Something it shouldn't have done as, for some reason, they were accidentally selling some of Rangers kit in our online club shop a while ago.

Who's the promotion favourites in the Championship?

It's a random division at the best of times but this coming year seems almost comic in its "take your pick" nature.

Hmmmmm...
Winners: Chelsea
Overachievers: Norwich. Possibly us too if we remember how to play coherently
Underachievers: Spurs if they lose Bale, though I can imagine City slipping out of the top 4. Possibly West Brom too.
Going Down: Crystal Palace, Hull, one of Cardiff, Stoke and Sunderland

What? I mean WHAT?

Both us and Blackpool have Wonga as sponsors, so the game is unofficially referred to as such.

Coincidentally one of our friendlies still to come is at Rangers, which is unofficially the Sports Direct Derby as Mike Ashley also owns a stake in them.

We got picked up a 1-0 victory at Blackpool in the Wonga.com Derby, which ironically had a very low rate of interest given the game failed to sell out even half the stadium.

Quick wiki check says Lee Bowyer is still a player but hasn't played after being released by Ipswich last summer.

He was quite decent at times for NUFC, even if his main memory will be of fighting Kieron Dyer in the middle of a game.

Yeah I think we're a lot better than people are making out. We can't really judge anyone signed in January yet as they were thrown into a relegation scrap halfway through the season with no Premiership experience. I don't think we've been that static in the transfer market either, it's obvious we're after a striker and I think the reason they've taken so long is because we've missed out on our first choice targets with the likes of Aubameyang and Carroll going elsewhere.

I suppose we couldn't really compete with Dortmund for Aubameyang. The despair is probably reinforced by the fact that there's been a fair amount of gossip as to our targets - Sky Bet putting us odds-on to sign Scott Sinclair, for example - only for it to be revealed as bollocks.

But who knows - there's still time. Guess its just hoping we can now get somebody in.

Think Pardew's poor tactics last season have added to that. I don't think you'll be near the relegation zone mind.

There were 3 main issues last year:
1. Injuries
2. Pardew
3. Players underperforming

If we can get beyond those (or failing that 1 and 3) then we can be making some progress.

I think a lot of fans are on a downer for the fact last season was a near-complete fuck up and we still need a new striker or two (maybe just the one if Gouffran can provide something good in attack). Though a lot of people outside the fanbase seem to think we're favourites for a surprise relegation fight, which is bollocks as the squad should be more than better than that.

Cisse has reportedly reached a "political solution" with the Toon Army and will stay at the club., with Wonga sponsor and all

Well I suppose that distraction's over and done with. For now.
