We don't though, all of the Newcastle fans seemed to have forgotten that we did most of our Summer business in January.

Realistically we need about 2 maybe 3 first team players to come in.

Pardew said: "We've got Premier League games, a League Cup programme and a FA Cup programme and we can cope with that easily with the squad we have.” We did buy 5 in January but we've let 4 or 5 go in January and the summer (Simpson, Perch, Harper, Ba) so we could use some squad additions, plus 3 strikers if Cisse leaves.

9 was probably an exaggeration - hell, it was - but it is remarkable and a wee bit worrying how static we've been in the transfer market.

I've seen a rumour going round we had a bid accepted for Remy from QPR.

Not sure why but given our manager thinks one less competition entered means we can cope with 9 less players than last year means we need all the help we can get.

Looks silly without the sponsor logo.

Our kits look silly with the sponsor logo.

Now You See Me

It could've been amazing but it settled for quite good in the end, with so much confusion denying it a stronger ranking.

Our new home kit is on sale to Puma USA customers: http://www.shop.puma.com/Newcastle-Home-Replica-Jersey/pna743470,en_US,pd.html&cgid=280032#!i=15&color=01

I like the kit with one exception - the fucking Wonga logo.

Spurs v Sunderland in Hong Kong is about to start after a rain delay. Least it was just rain and not the kaiju from Pacific Rim...

No Bale for Spurs after he "strained a buttock"... whatever that means.

Maybe he visualised that it was Joe Kinnear and wanted a polite word over where our new signings are.

1-1 with Pacos de Ferreira in Portugal, in a game where Fabricio Coloccini got sent off for trying to throttle an opponent.

I think I remember Coloccini getting away with duffing up a Huddersfield player in a friendly in 2009. So it seems he gets his aggressive tendencies out early.

Few people saying the extra quid has triggered some sort of clause in his contract? Pretty bizarre, we'll see.

It would be hilarious if it did but alas it did not and Liverpool rejected it.

I rather like it - like the perfect halfway house between Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, then turned up to 11.

I swear some Toon fans have been saying he's a casino regular for ages. We're probably lucky he hasn't fallen off a barstool and injured his knee like Carroll did, though if he does that Liverpool might give us £35M again.

Talking of casinos, has Ashley gambled away our transfer budget or something? We seem no closer to signing anyone than we did before that numpty JFK rocked up.

3-1 loss to Portugal's Rio Ave, who were 3-0 up in 25 minutes.

Pardew's already talking bollocks in his post match interviews. So it sounds like we're prepared to continue last season's abject misery but with added Kinnear.

Good news: Joe Kinnear made a signing
Bad news: It's an assistant for him - Mick Hartford, who last I heard had been fired by MK Dons for being a poor assistant manager. Oy vey.

I thought they'd signed Julio Cesar?

That would be what the lawyers have been drafted in for then.

Much as I find the thought of Ashley singing along to the "fat cockney bastard chants" amusing, I'm pretty sure there's no record of our fans doing anti-semitic chanting. Surely if they did sing it would have been mentioned in the media at some point like the Mido bomb ones were a few years back.

Pepe Reina on loan to Napoli it looks like.

Deal confirmed.

Season long loan. Bit of a surprise really, though I daresay Mignolet is now the number one.

I doubt they're benefiting as much as last season given they had virtually an entire squad of loanees from Udinese, Granada and Chelsea on their books by the time of the play-off final. Plus Vydra is not included in this deal, and he was one of the best of the loanees.

Danny Graham to Hull on loan. He really did have a nightmare few months at Sunderland, cost £5m as well.

Given he once said he'd rather play for Gateshead than Sunderland in our matchday programme, it's rather fitting to see he played like a non-league player for them.

Reports indicate we're in talks to sign Gomis from Lyon.

Knowing the way we shambolically do our business he'll probably be playing for Aston Villa.

Stoke City are offering supporters free coach travel to every one of their Premier League away games this season.

Beginning with the Potters' trip to Liverpool on the opening day of the campaign, coaches will take fans from the Britannia Stadium to each of their 19 away league fixtures free of charge.

The club are using the increase in TV revenue to fund the initiative.

"We're conscious that following football can be an expensive business," chief executive Tony Scholes said.

Stoke previously subsidised ticket prices for those travelling to an FA Cup quarter-final tie at Anfield, waiving their right to 45% of the away ticket sales so they could offer tickets to fans at £20 instead of £35.

"We work hard to try and provide our supporters with value for money, which is why we have not increased our ticket prices since being promoted to the Premier League in 2008," Scholes continued.

"However, we realise how expensive following the club away from home can be for supporters and we're delighted to be able to offer free coach travel and hope it encourages more of them to give us their fantastic backing away from home."

The new £3bn Premier League TV deal will see top-flight sides receive £55m a year, and even if a club is relegated, they will still receive parachute payments of around £60m.

That's quite a good deal.

If true then he won't really have a leg to stand on.

I've never seen him in Aspers though \o/

Seen Dabizas there the other weekend and he was claiming Dennis Bergkamp didn't mean his awesome turn in like 98 or whenever it was.

2001, and tbf Bergkamp said it was lucky in an interview.

Guardian Finance section on Islamic banks...
How do the banks make money?
Banks can profit from the buying and selling of approved goods and services. The principal means of Islamic finance are based on trading, and it is essential that risk be involved in any trading activity, so banks and financial institutions will trade in sharia-compliant investments with the money deposited by customers, sharing the risks, and the profits between them.

Islamic banks are structured so that they retain a clearly differentiated status between shareholders' capital and clients' deposits in order to make sure profits are shared correctly.

Although they cannot charge interest, the banks can profit from helping customers to purchase a property using a ijara or murabaha scheme. With an ijara scheme the bank makes money by charging the customer rent; with a murabaha scheme, a price is agreed at the outset which is more than the market value. This profit is deemed to be a reward for the risk that is assumed by the bank.

There are firm laws governing the types of business the banks can trade with. There should be absolutely no investment in unsuitable businesses, including those involved with armaments, pork, tobacco, drugs, alcohol or pornography.

Though customers I've red elsewhere say that Islamic banks simply charge more on your loan outright rather than on interest.

I like Norwich's advertising for that. Nice kit too.

Meanwhile, a Puma US advert leaked our alleged new kits:

Home kit looks nicer than some of the mock ups I have seen but the third one still looks shite.

Hard luck though. Good luck trying again next season.
