Why in the fuck is Steve McClaren on the board at Newcastle

Their line.
By NUFC Official Website
Managing director Lee Charnley commented: "This is a very positive step forward for the Club and I am delighted that Steve, Graham and Bob will join me on the board.

"It was particularly important for us that the head coach also became a board member in order to gain a full understanding and appreciation for the Club and its operations as a whole, not just the football side. In Steve we have an individual who embraced that responsibility.

Looks like bollocks and I'm not entirely certain why either. Maybe its just to make the board look bigger than just Charnley and Ashley as a puppeteer. Not sure why the fuck Bobby Moncur is there either given all he does is say nice things about Ashley in interviews.

I'm hardly surprised Newcastle have banned everyone apart from Sky and Trinity Mirror. Its not exactly new to know the club is incapable of coherent media relations.

Sky are running it too. Guess it really is happening.

Also guess they won't be missed.

Telegraph are claiming John Carver will be fired today. Stone as well.

Interesting if they have pursued such a nuclear option. Whether or not it happens...

I've got a feeling that Bamford may end up at Newcastle on loan for the season.

I do as well. Bamford and Austin could be a good strike pairing, but I would imagine signing the former to be more like us.

A claim appeared in the Sunday Times this morning that Morocco won the ExCo vote to host the 2010 World Cup ahead of South Africa and FIFA rigged the public declaration.

That would turbo-charge the entire investigation if it was true.

Reading that we're getting money to improve 2 positions in the squad.

2?

We need 6 first team players.

Six? We need more than that.

Two is an insult.

You'd prefer Vieira?

Less I would prefer him, more that I see West Ham aiming big for people like Benitez, Klopp, de Boer, Bilic, etc, and we're going for a discard from the Championship. Although saying that, Pardew was a discard from a then-League One Southampton, so it seems to be their style.

Claim is a 4 man shortlist of McClaren, Garde, Laudrup and Viera. Mercifully, John fucking Carver will not be considered. Which mean we can stick the press support for him up his arse.

Charnley is still inept. Presumably he's only supported by the Chronicle because he actually gave an interview to them, which Ashley hasn't done and I don't think ever will. Carr is hit-and-miss, although it wouldn't have surprised me if there was something like a Hazard/Henry false equivalency. I think him and Pardew believed in different things, hence why a number of signings didn't work.

The Mirror called them "Premier League Stars"

They did, yes. Bit of an exaggeration.

Saying that, there's a rumour that Leicester's owners have been told by high-ranking Thai officials to immediately sell the club on the back of this. Could have a fairly large ramification, that.

Allardyce now might be a better fit, but the first time was not a right work for either of us and I doubt either party wants to work with one another ever again.

I do get the feeling we might regret letting Jonas go, and I do speak as someone that had a downer on him in 2012/13. He clearly gave more of a toss than his contemporaries in the second half of this campaign, and he certainly seemed to offer more than Ameobi. Which says a lot about our development skill, or lack of it.

Jonas Gutierrez and Ryan Taylor released.

Ryan Taylor is fair given he looked pretty poor after returning to the fold, but Jonas is a bit of a tetchy one. Certainly its not one the club is getting positive PR for on Twitter... then again, nothing they do is.

The problem is that although Western Europe and North America are crying foul, Blatter has been very good at working the developing world. The fact he has such a high level of support in Africa, parts of Asia and South America meant he has a lot with him and the stakes are tipped against the challenger unless he can find a way to get those nations on his side.

I do accept that FIFA has done good things in creating/helping programmes out there and making them feel a part of proceedings. An ethical FIFA should be doing that regardless, but this is coming with a stench of backhanders, collusion and the lot. Also, if Blatter didn't know a lot of his confidants weren't potentially dodgy, then he must be fucking passive as shit.

The sad thing is I just can't see Blatter losing today. Its a crying shame as he is clearly harming everything, but it seems as though he has enough support to keep him in office as despot-like as ever.

Steve McClaren has been sacked by Derby, which has already lead to people putting two and two together given the earlier link. He'd be an improvement on Carver but the final few months at the Pride iPro Baseball whatever its called Arena have got the red flags blaring, as noted.

Michael Laudrup has also said he'd like to manage either us or West Ham. I have some reservations given how his time at Swansea fell to shit by the end, mind.
I know it lacks ambition somewhat, but I'd like Newcastle to become a team that developed young players, had a solid English/British core to the team that had been developed at the club, challenged for Europa League spots/cup wins, sold players they'd developed principally to top-4/top foreign teams, and gave the 50,000 fans that turn up every week something to cheer about.

To be fair, regularly challenging for the Europa League positions and cup wins is more ambitious than what we've been doing for the last three years. Maybe there's change in the air given someone finally got Ashley to talk in public and explain some of his motivations, even if the Sky reporter who did the interview is represented by Ashley's PR's.

Allardyce's mates in the press did, aye. But tbh, I can't recall too many on the stands having a go at his tactics of substitutions, in the same manner.

I think there was one game at home to Liverpool where there was fans having a massive go at him for weird tactics and subs, and same in the Boxing Day game at Wigan that many have said lead to him going, but aside from that, it wasn't anything like the West Ham fans' behaviour.

Allardyce has looked for a while like he's known he was going to be dispensed with anyway.

Clough has to go, but i feel the 5-5 draw will keep him his job, for at least half the next season.

Nope, he's gone: http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/32873951

Maybe I'm confused as an outsider but it looks like a bold move.

West Ham fans were cunts today. Valencia was shite and looked totally uninterested, and the West Ham fans started chanting 'fuck off Allardyce etc.'.

I don't like Allardyce. But fuck me, deluded.

Didn't a lot of people say that about us when Allardyce was NUFC manager in 07/08?

Still, if nothing else, I'm impressed by how quick West Ham have moved in telling him to get out, although with that, I get the sense they'd already told him behind closed doors to piss off quite a while ago.
