Didn't you want rid of Jonas then?

Its a tricky one - most of us weren't impressed by Jonas' 2012-13 performances anyway, and I think we would've been a bit more sensitive had we realised his body was going through such a troublesome time. When he was loaned to Norwich I thought it was just to get him game-time after an injury, which in fairness to Pardew might have been what the line of thought was, even if he said it in an extremely idiotic way.

I imagine he'll stay for next year at least tbh. Then again I'm yet to watch a game in full since his return to the first team fold, so I don't know how well he has or hasn't played. But judging by what I've red, heard and seen in highlights, I'm thinking Ryan Taylor is the one in bigger danger of being let go at present.
What has happened to Ferrerya? He is a monster for Newcastle on one of my saves on FM, but I don't remember seeing him play for Newcastle in real life.

He played some pre-seasons games, one Capital One Cup tie, was on the bench a few times and hasn't been seen in quite a while.

Transfer Market has worked out that we've made a loss of roughly £25million in transfers since the start of the summer 2011 window (The one after AC left). Even if you add the 2010-11 business, the summer spending means we're still about half a million in the red. Oddly £88million is what has been spent on transfers (may've confused gross for net spend, hence the initial planned rebuttal), but if our net spend since return to the BPL in 2010 is yet to reach a million quid, there's still the room for manouevre.

Certainly, its clear the central defensive area as a whole is past it and has been for a while, yet it seems to have slipped in priority. Pardew's failure to get to grips with Yanga-Mbiwa has really left us in trouble there.

I think most fans were hoping for more quality. Naturally, I don't think we expected Siem de Jong to be a semi-permanent crock, or Riviere and Ferreyra to be so hopeless. The ideas were there, but the execution is not, as said. But equally so, its not as if we couldn't afford more. It's not as if we're going to go bust anytime soon.

Nevertheless, it appears there'll be another overhaul in the summer anyway. Personally I think it could be relatively simple - say, one new winger, one new CB and one new striker to replace Gouffan, Williamson and Riviere. But maybe something more comprehensive is planned. Who knows. Still a while before the transfer fun and games anyway.

Meanwhile, the more I hear about the Rangers five, the more I get bewildered how it happened. Did we just pick players at random and dump them there?

The Bigirimana thing is particularly puzzling. Surely we knew he has the illness being discussed, and surely someone must've pointed out that the SPFL didn't allow players with the condition he has to play.

Massive plane crash in the Alps today. Not looking good. Descended for 9 minutes at 1km/minute, what torture that must have been

As someone with a fear of flying, this story was troublesome enough, and I can't help but feel saddened by it. But the safety investigator's initial report that the co-pilot deliberately crashed it into the Alps is extremely unsettling.

Balotelli & Lambert: 48 games, 7 goals.

Eat that.

Wow. Much feared.

In any case I missed the Magpies game but it sounds as though we actually attempted to play football for once (Williamson's hacking of Giroud aside). Maybe now we should try it in games we might actually win.

Also noted that Pardew has now lapped us. Yippee.

Yeah we had 0 penalties 2 seasons ago. Some of them were so blatant it was unreal.

One thing that doesn't help is the fact that there is still confusion over handballs. Some refs will give every one, some only if its deliberate and others ignore them all.

Yeah that's the one. I seem to recall Bale getting frequently booked for diving when he'd been chopped down.

It's a strange one. I know referees have been going down in standards for a couple of years and there are a shitload of penalties that could have been given but haven't been - not just for Chelsea. It's Chelsea that seem to be doing their best to make it an issue of conspiracy and all that bullshit.

Didn't Spurs finish 5th a few years ago after getting no penalties in the entire season?

Sure, Chelsea could have had some penalties that weren't given, but previously they've had some that shouldn't have been given. Mourinho's just behaving like a fucking baby over the whole thing, and clearly so are his mob's website editors.

Given, Solano, Milner, Butt, Dyer and Owen would walk into our team atm.

We were under performing then hugely - now we're achieving pretty much what we should be with our team - which is the problem.

We were shit in the league in 2006/07, and its more than likely that line-up would beat the current rabble in a game. More so if Martins and N'Zogbia played, as opposed to conscientiously objecting like they did that afternoon.

Its strange though. Maybe in 06/07 we expected ourselves to be better because of the millions shovelled at players that seemed better than they were, but now I don't think we expect anything. Neither's an entirely pleasing reality, but even then, we made a Europa League Round of 16 tie and a Carling Cup Quarter Final, as opposed to having them in separate campaigns. Hell I think to some degree Souness' tragic league form in 04/05 was tolerated because of the team's absurd luck in the cup competitions in reaching the FA Cup semis and UEFA Cup quarters. Right now, its just not really fun.

Tbh I'm surprised Poyet lasted this long. Bet they still fucking win the Derby.

I kind of feel sorry for Newcastle tbh, Mike Ashley is an utter cunt who probably has chosen the worst managers possible for the club. When I was really young my parents used to say how they were a big club, but obviously I've never seen that. My parents even met Sir Bob and said he was a wonderful man (as if anyone expected any less).

But I just haven't seen it, they're kind of a joke figure for my generation with a slight Liverpool nature to them with entitlement to be better than they should be. Saying that I'd love to do an away trip to St James' Park.

I don't know how much the team Sir Bobby built in 2001-04 became a curse. 2003-04 was a weird season - we weren't exactly that bad given we finished 5th and weren't far off taking a Champions League spot, but we drew so many games. Maybe people just expected another title challenge rather than trying (and failing) to get top four, but the desertion of SJP ahead of a post-game lap on the final day was really bad.

Since then, I don't know what we've felt. Certainly, it's fair to say most Newcastle fans want more than what they currently are, but as what we currently are is an embarrassing misfire run by a complete bastard, I don't get why people think we're asking for the world.

One of Ameobi or Obertan as a first choice could perhaps be tolerable. Playing both is a liability - they're extremely similar individuals and have a similar element of frustration.

Williamson is justifiably a blame target because half the time a goal going in is his fault. This is not to say he is the sole item of blame. Coloccini has been useless for the bulk of the last two years, Steven Taylor's fitness is lousy, and Paul Dummett is still inconsistent. But he is extremely crap.

Cheap or not, Carver is completely inept. I have previously said on here that I felt the coaching staff needed changing at the same time as the figurehead when Pardew walked away, but instead they've been promoted and are floundering further.

A mass scale renovation has to take place on the pitch and in the dugout. But the likelihood of that is depressingly remote, and its just becoming more and more worrisome that we could be in a relegation battle next year, with Williamson and Gouffran still holding down regular first team spots.

David Cameron gives his backing to Jeremy Clarkson.

Sums up David Cameron well.

The fact they're neighbours and frequent guests at each other's houses probably indicates there's a bigger closeness.

In any case, its pretty bewildering and extremely absurd that with all the shit going wrong in the world at the moment, this is the busiest petition on change.org, and its still likely to fail.

Jeremy Clarkson suspended by the BBC for allegedly punching a producer in the face.

Well... there's only two surprises - that he wasn't suspended sooner, and it wasn't being racist that got him there. But tbh the show's been stale for ages so maybe this sort of thing might help renovate it.

Bet they cock up the "only until Thursday" part and legalise them for a long time as well.

I wish we could sign Gareth Bale but the only European football we could offer him is one trip to Swansea.

He wouldn't get picked ahead of Gouffran anyway.

I agree with the consensus - its disgusting, but its not a leg-breaking tackle or racism. The day after the incident, Sky's Alan McInally was calling for a ten game ban for both of them, which would've been really over the top.

Also nice to see a big "fuck you" to Paul Scholes after his biased view that Evans would never have done such a thing.

I'm just surprised Williamson somehow hasn't gotten the blame

When Abeid plays the holding role, allows Colback to press higher up. Certainly looked good, for the two or three games they played it.

There's probably someone who would try tbf. Though for once his only tactic of "hoof it" would've saved us a point.
