Taken them long enough to vote someone for this given the characters variously in charge at Birmingham, Coventry and others. So... seeing as the owners seem to have bet the farm on him taking over, what now?

I dunno - there are plenty of sticks with which to beat Ashley with. The fact commercial income has halved since his arrival, signing a deal with Wonga.com when they paid less than Virgin Money and not signing players to preserve a top 6 challenge, for example. But with this one, its hard to get excited. Asset stripping in a football context would be something like Ashley selling the stadium, training ground and either the entire first team, or those that can be sold. Not quite what this land sale is.

Plus, I'm pretty sure if St. James' Park is to be uniformally sized like the 2000 extension, they'd have to bulldoze a few dozen properties around it. So unless they'd do what Liverpool are doing and deliberate make people homeless, I doubt its going to be extended anyway.

You got your wish.
If they go through I'll be amazed. Doubly so if they then follow it up with a home defeat to someone in the relegation zone.
PSG v Chelsea has the hallmarks of a decent tie.

Well, I suppose a goal is as good as any tonic to get him moving. Admittedly the goal looked to have come from about a quarter of a yard out, but if it settles him down then I daresay its probably a godsend.

I saw that while flicking through the BBC's min-by-min files. Is he taking the piss or what?

Heitinga's 'goal' was a puzzling one - from my end of the ground I thought it had gone in and was equally puzzled as I couldn't see the disallowed follow-up through a crowd of confused fans. The margin that got it disallowed was ridiculous - I thought that would be a suitable margin to allow the goal. Even if, as according to the rules, it wasn't wholly over.

I'm guessing the fact he's signed a loan extension means you're stuck with him.

Demichelis maybe the one that gets the kicking most often (albeit sometimes deservedly) but why on earth has Dzeko suddenly become so talented at elaborately missing sitters?

It'll probably get more than this did: http://www.exeterexpressandecho.co.uk/Alan-Pardew-receive-punishment-Yates-heabutt/story-20738068-detail/story.html
I suppose its the fact I didn't watch it live that's made me think "really?!". I mean, I first heard about it on my phone about an hour after it happened, as I was at the cinema during the game. Seeing the BBC Sport site say "headbutt" made me think it was like Zidane at the 2006 World Cup Final, not the sort of nudge he gave after being pushed in the first place. I accept he should get a ban as it was a pretty dumb thing to do, not least in a football stadium full of cameras, but it feels more underwhelming.

Apparently this has been handed out for pushing the ref and swearing at him heavily for not sending off the Leicester captain. I'd say that and the incident when Paul Ince was found guilty of throwing a bottle at a fan and pushing over/threatening the 4th official after a game was way worse than the antics of Pardew at Hull, yet he'll probably get the "made example of" extended stadium ban.
