Blackburn mainly need to look at keeping Rhodes and Dann especially Rhodes !

I'd take Rhodes at SJP but I can imagine the Fat Man baulking at the asking price.

BBC journo reporting Ashley let Cabaye listen in on negotiations with Arsenal, during which Arsenal's representatives said "25million is a lot for a reserve player". Bit of a deal breaking comment if there ever was one.

As for our own attempts, does anyone think the club will sign someone today?

I mean, I'm hopeful n all but I'm not anticipating anyone coming in.

Capoue did look to be in massive pain, didn't help that Cazorla fell on his foot.

It did look like a nothing incident but it always seems to be those sort of incidents that generate the worst injuries. Pretty gutting for him to get (potentially) a six month injury on his debut.

Something resembling this:
Lloris - Walker, Dawson, Vertongen - Rose - Paulinho, Capoue - Townsend, Eriksen, Lamela - Soldado

That would probably work.

Normally when games are hyped up (Man U-Chelsea) it ends up goalless. Hopefully this'll be better, although it'd be preposterous if Arsenal scored five again.
Most of you will never understand how it feels to base your entire support of a league upon who you hate the most. (it's brilliant, for the record)

Sounds complex. Is there an explanatory graph?

There were last season. WYP are genuinely incompetent and take the mick when it comes to criminalising football fans. We had two home games selected for Sky that they blocked from moving to Friday nights (Leeds and Cardiff), had a further three made lunchtime kick-offs, and then there was the Hull fiasco. Despite only one incident between the two clubs, they deemed it high risk and initially moved it to a lunchtime. Then Sky decided to televise it, and the police tried to block that as well, at which point the FL stepped in as Town had a contractual duty to have at least one televised home league game. Had it not been televised, we could have been docked points or (more likely) been given a massive fine.

The police made their conditions for the game going ahead as per Sky's request clear, and absolutely refused to budge. Recently released documents showed that their 'evidence' of trouble coming from Hull fans came from (among other pathetic things) a 3-year old YouTube video showing a rowdy pub full of chanting Hull fans. The full request can be found on this thread. However the response from the HTSA was, 'After lengthy procrastination, a response was received last Friday to a Freedom of Information request made at the time. The details of that response have raised serious questions about the decision-making process and HTSA welcomes the investigation called for by West Yorkshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner.'.

There ended up being protest marches in Huddersfield on the day of the game, and WYP have found themselves under PCC investigation. Hopefully we'll start to see positive policing, rather than the consistent treatment of fans as something below rats by WYP.

Aye that's what I was referencing. Hull fans were especially irritated that all sorts of elaborate conditions were required to get away tickets for their game at the Terriers ground. When Saturday Comes had some articles on the hysterical mess around it.

Seemed like a fairly pointless police hullabaloo for no reason. I daresay its necessary for some games - Wrexham v Chester earlier today, for example - but this seems like one of those games messed around with so as to justify police budgets. Have WYP got something similar lined up for the tie at the KC next month?

There seems to be very little correlation between what happens at the match and what appears in the match report.

F365's match report for today was Newcastle won but it doesn't count because I wanted to say they were rubbish and Pardew is clueless, and to act extremely smug. This game was horrendously one sided, Newcastle murdered Fulham for most of the game. 24 shots to 3.

F365's main evidence that Newcastle are awful and lucky, is that Newcastle had one shot on target in the previous two games, which has been mentioned several times over the past week. Newcastle had 9 shots on target today. Nine. 50% more than anyone else. I think it's a totally meaningless stat, but I wonder how many times it will be highlighted in match reports this week.

In other news West Ham have only had one shot on target in their past two games. CRISIS,MELTDOWN,TURMOIL!

The "1 shot in 2 games" stat was notable because, before today, it was the league's lowest and we rarely looked like troubling keepers in the first two matches. It may have worked well in previews but it only really would've worked if we had failed to create much.

Today, we could well have won by 3/4-0 if we'd taken some more of our chances. That one shot stat is not really a stat that could be used to beat us with on this occasion. Though it could be worth pointing out to AP we performed better after Shola was hauled off.

I'd be more worried if I was a Fulham fan tbh - despite all these big new signings something there is not working.
Yep, maybe - but I keep wondering who the relegation candidates are apart from the three promoted teams? Sunderland for sure......but apart from that you'd think others who'd normally be 'possibles' like Norwich, Fulham, Southampton etc should be okay. It's a tough one.

The common consensus pre-season was that Sunderland and Stoke were likeliest to be down there with the three promoted clubs. West Brom have also been mentioned as an outside bet by several but I'd be surprised if they went down.

I'd be surprised if Norwich and Southampton are down there but then QPR know a thing or two about spending big for no reward.

That was a corker of a strike.

The three promoted teams actually look like quite decent units. Maybe them all being fucked isn't as foregone a conclusion as we thought...

Pardew is fucking crap, the faster he's losing his job the better for Newcastle.

I would be agreeing if it wasn't for the fact he apparently would earn all the outstanding wages on his excessive contract and we'd probably get JFK as gaffer.

Pardew is the lesser of two evils for the moment.

In fairness we beat Anzhi earlier this year when they had Hiddink, Willian and Eto'o. Even if we did need a goal in the 91st minute of the 2nd leg. Anzhi is probably not as tough a game now but the travelling in Spurs' group is likely to be a killer.

Of all the quite frankly ridiculously dull draws it's possible to get, Hull away takes the biscuit. Oh well, beat them, get Man Utd at home next round.

Aren't there some shenanigans involving Hull, Huddersfield and West Yorkshire Police?

Amazing how £7M-a-year is still a paycut for him.
I guess so.

I was more amazed we were linked with him - we'd probably try and get him on £30,000 a week pre-tax.

Messi's suit is certainly an improvement on the bizarre polka dot mess he wore at the FIFA World Player Awards ceremony last year.

Man U and Chelsea's groups are progressable, but probably not as easy as they look. Celtic will probably finish last, Arsenal face a struggle and Man City could go either-way, though it'd be a bit much if they repeated last year's antics.

Not going to happen. The Turkish media link everybody to Galatasaray, this'll be one of the many times they're talking bullshit.

Last summer they said Demba Ba had joined Gala when they didn't even bid. Hardly reliable. In this case, I think I heard a claim di Maria has rejected a contract offer from Gala.

Ajax have said Spurs have made an enquiry for Eriksen.

For some reason I thought he'd joined Dortmund.
