When did Owen Coyle go from young British* manager who plays football the right way to his current status.

Seem to just happen.

Newcastle have been linked for ages.

Also unsurprisingly that Charnley interview has been near universally panned. I honestly think that most Newcastle fans would be happier with signing Darren Bent, Aaron Lennon and Jermaine Defoe on long term huge contracts than actually trying to look forward in spending the money.

Trying to establish Newcastle as a team capable of finishing consistently up the table, bringing in young players and developing the youth academy is the way forward. Not empty promises and patronising bollocks about the Geordie Nation, and occasionally making a 'statement' signing out of the hat to appease the masses.

Also amazing how Newcastle apparently looking to sign one of the top prospects in English football is negatively received.

Interview with Charnley in the Chronicle today.

Used the word 'I' a lot suggesting that it's his decision. Talks about the process of appointing a new manager. Says club unlikely to sign or sell anyone. Seems to discuss the possibility of appointing someone in the summer - suggests to me thats what they will do.

Hope the club don't pin their hopes on de Boer or Tuchel, only for them to change their mind in the Summer.

I find it ridiculous when people blame one player for poor results. It's the same with us and Wilshere, our % of wins is much greater without him in the side but it's a systematic issue, not a player one.

Erm, the polar opposite actually.

I'm bored of people blaming Williamson & Gouffran. And jizzing over Cabella on account of he's expensive and new and ignoring that he's been dropped for a reason. It's the Kagawa is better than Rooney argument, or the Hatem Ben Arfa argument.

I'm certainly not trying to blame Cabella and want him to well for the club. Just can't be arsed with the hypocrisy.

By way of a definition, the term “Key Pass” used in this article refers to both Opta denoted events of Assist and Key Pass, ie the final pass or pass-cum-shot leading to the recipient of the ball shooting (regardless of the outcome of the shot). - See more at: http://statsbomb.com/2013/11/assessing-key-passes/#sthash.qoO3caJe.dpuf

Cabella has played more minutes than Obertan & Ameobi combined.

Assists and goals aren't perfect. But they're much more reliable than chances created. I imagine the guy who passes most to Andros Townsend will create a lot of chance this year.

And where has this myth of him not playing come from? He's played more than Ameobi, Obertan and Aarons and did less than them all. This is a fact. As is that we nearly always lose when he plays.

Amazing how Newcastle are bottom of the League without Cabella. He's dropped win 6 on the bounce and Cabella is the hero in all this.

Check chances created for me please. per 90 mins played as well, some of Cabellas appearances come where he's subbed on in the 89th minute with the game beyond us.

Over the past few seasons too, rather than over half a season where a very poor manager offensively mismanaged him.

Same with Obertan and Ameobi too, as both are extremely poor players. Sammy Ameobi actually crossed the ball off his own leg on Saturday, it was impressively bad.

Cabella isn't a "winger", he's a wide forward or an attacking midfielder.

I don't rate chances created as a stat. And I'm pointing out the games where he's been given starts and played more than half. He hasn't delivered. He's creating and scoring less than other players. Seriously in half a season I can remember 3 moments of good play.

How has Cabella been mismanaged? By being given a starting role and him being dropped because he was playing poorly and Newcastle were losing every week? Until Ameobi and Obertan were brought in and results immediately improved?

A statistical analysis of Remy Cabella;

The games where he has played the majority of the match

0-2 Man City
3-3 Palace
0-4 Soton
2-2 Hull
0-1 Stoke
2-0 WBA
1-0 QPR* (Cabella subbed before goals)
2-1 Chelsea* (Cabella subbed before goals)
0-4 Tottenham
0-1 Leicester
0-2 Chelsea
1-2 Soton
----------------
WBA away is the only game where Newcastle have played Cabella and won, without taking him off before the goals happen.

He meanwhile has no goals and one assist in 20 appearances and 1091 minutes of action.

our other winger have contributed towards;

Ameobi - 5 goals (705 mins)
Aarons - 3 goals (102mins)
Obertan - 2 goals (302 mins)
Gouffran - 2 goals (1469 mins)
Perez - 5 goals (1232 mins)
Williamson - 2 goals (1186 mins)

So basically Cabella is an ineffectual winger, who is prone to giving the ball away in dangerous positions, slows down the play, chooses the wrong option far too often, doesn't cover his full back very well, is a poor crosser who can't score, who has so far played well for maybe three whole games.

My point was that it's extremely easy to say these things in hindsight. They were very quiet about Newcastle baulking and not buying Luuk De Jong or Ricky van Wolfswinkel for similar prices. Or that 19 other Premier League teams didn't sign Bony and 20 didn't sign Lacazette.

And that as of the start of the season Sunderland had a £35m strike force of Fletcher (£15m), Whickham (£8m), Altidore (£6.5m) and Graham (£5m). And could have easily signed Bony and Lacazette plus change, had they not 'speculated to accumulate' in these bunch of strikers.

Chronicle reporting that Newcastle might be in discussions with someone, but they don't know who. Some bloke in the comments insists its Laudrup. They also say that Newcastle are shocked by the number of people who want the job.

They are also reporting that Newcastle should have signed Bony and Lacazette when they had the chance. Life was so much better when they were banned.

Yeah I'm still not sure what the fuck the assistant was doing.

Its a problem that I've felt for many seasons with Pardew, which is a lack of attacking plan and urgency. Yes, bodies are going forward, but you never get the sense there is a cohesive strategy. Doubly so given that the only goal came from a fluke for a player who hadn't scored in almost 2 whole days worth of football.

It wasn't a terrible performance, and there were players who did well enough. It still wasn't that good though. Janmaat was terrible, Coloccini was poor again and Sissoko was a passenger. I'm not sure about Anita being decent, but he wasn't as terrible as was he was against Leicester, and Gouffran was certainly better than most of his non-events in 2014.

What does our strongest 11 look like? There's quite a few possible tactics and selections when everyone's first - once in a lifetime occurrence, mind - and certainly it does require a slight shift to put SDJ in that number 10 role. Abeid certainly has to go in front of Tiote, although I bet whoever's in charge when both are back will be picking Tiote for another one of his liability games. Still need a new CB though.

Also, are we good enough to keep our of the relegation battle? There are plenty of social media abusing tosspots who think we should be because we thought Pardew needed removing before he dragged us there, but that bottom 3 is getting uncomfortably closer.

Strongest team right now imo; Krul, Santon, Taylor, Colo, Janmaat, Abeid, Sissoko, Colback, Ameobi, Obertan, Cisse.

Elliot, Williamson, Dummett, Tiote, Taylor, De Jong, Perez,

Newcastle didn't create much but still created about the same as Southampton.

I hope Alan gives us a wave when he passes us by

Pardew or Carver?

The problem is that tactically there's not much different, except possibly the inclusion and run for Cabella. Granted this game saw the luck go a smidgeon against with the Janmaat deflection and the handball ignorance on 90+1, but there were moments were it felt that Newcastle could go to 5am and not score.

Carver specifically in this game.

Thought it was an OK performance. Carver didn't do much wrong and probably deserved a point against quite a good side. Thought Anita was decent again, Cabella began to show a bit more before fading in the second half and Haidara recovered well to actually have a good game.

Hopefully in a couple of weeks De Jong, Santon, Abeid, Sammy, Jonas, R Taylor and Obertan will all be fit enough.

So Roma are prepared to sit their best defender on the bench for the derby and risk the Scudetto (The first in over a decade iiirc, and only something like the third in Roma's history?) and possibly cancel his contract in exchange for saving a comparatively small amount of money?

And I watched highlights of the CL and he was fucking comical in Roma's defeats to Bayern (7-1) and Man City. His 'defending' on Zaba's goals was awful. Jovetic turns him on the wing then he just stand and fucking watches Jovetic stroll into the box.

Fucking hope he comes back and relegates us.

I was hoping that maybe we could swap him for that Totti fella. Or maybe De Rossi.

Rumour that Papiss Cisse is one of Swansea's targets to replace Bony.

Do we ever plan to go one window without selling anyone? Sure, if we get £10million, not a bad deal, but selling Sissoko and/or Cisse without a replacement in mind - again - is a fucking silly idea.

Remember when we sold them both in the summer, along with Krul, Santon, Tiote etc.?

Pointless getting upset over rumours, which haven't happened yet.

Lyon stopped winning Ligue 1's long before Garde turned up. He simply seemed to expand their remit from regular top 3 to top 5, but given they've had major financial cutbacks and sold a lot of key players (Lloris, Lovren and Pjanic, for examples), it could have been worse. Who knows why its taking so long though..

For some reason I thought they won Ligue 1 the season before he started.

The decline of Lyon was driven by economics, not coaching. The costs of the new stadium they're building and missing the Champions League a couple of years in a row meant that they couldn't pay the wages they used to, which predictably led to even worse performances on the pitch.

Cabella is the best player in the world to have contributed to less goals than Mike Williamson this season. Had quite a good game yesterday mind, but that doesn't make his earlier season performance good.

No idea if Remi Garde is any good, seemed to transform Lyon from title winners to Europa League regulars in a short space of time, and Lyon seem to have kicked on without him. But at least he seems to want the job, rather than fucking about like de Boer. Don't know why it's taking so long though.

Villa fans won't get called fickle by the media, as they don't go on about it the same way or attempt to court the publicity in the same way as Newcastle 'fans'. When Villa fans get out the bedsheets, go on marches, and start leaving games early as a protest, then they will almost certainly start getting the same level of criticism.

Also I wouldn't pay too much attention to trends for example Zaha and Niall Quinn are currently trending.

Lambert is a weird one, seemed like one of the bolder and interesting managers whilst at Norwich and the early part of Villa, and now has seemingly turned Villa into the most boring, uninteresting side ever, who are destined to finish around 15th with 37 points.
