But Joey Barton made all of his money, from deals like this.

Good to see Joey Barton having a go at the kit. A #ManofthePeople who is definitely not benefiting from the rampant commercialisation of the game he loves. Definitely didn't move to QPR for the money.

Big Sam has done fantastic. He's managed to keep West Ham in the Premier League whilst also being horrendously corrupt and squandering millions. Really proving why he is the 13th best paid manager in the world.

It all depends on the season you're competing in, obviously. They went from 69 points to 72 points. Theoretically, if AVB had been Spurs manager at the start of the 2011/12 season, they'd have finished 3rd, ahead of Arsenal. At the end of the 12/13 season, Spurs were playing good football, they had a summer to spend £100+million, and all the players, according to the papers at least, were big fans of AVB. Furthermore, Spurs were still well in with a shout at the top four when AVB was sacked, essentially for being unable to justify signings that he didn't want. Going into his second season with the best statistics of any Spurs PL manager, you'd think they would [a] back his ideas in the summer rather than a director of football, [b] give him time because you've already seen he can deliver what you want on the pitch, and [c] give him extra time because of the number of signings made.

That's not how football leagues work though. The strength of the PL is different every year. You can't just assume 72 points in 2013 translates to 72 points in 2012.

“Southampton have a different type of catchment area. There is a big working class community, but there are a lot of middle-class kids who have good education.”

“The players who come out of Southampton are quite intelligent and there might be something in that.” “We have to put more intelligence into our players here.”

Err, Alan?

Annoyed with how shit we played yesterday, I've been blaming our poor performances on the fact we've got nothing to play for, but neither have Southampton and they completely outclassed us. From start to finish.

Too many average players and a completely average manager = completely boring and average midtable obscurity.

Squad needs a lot of work.

I think yesterday really shows up Pardew's limitations. Seems to have absolutely no game plan. Southamton are mudering our lack of pace at the back with simple long balls in behind. Let's do absolutely nothing. And take HBA off.

I really fucking hate his man management style. I think he already has his subs planned before the game and is determined to use them in that order. What's the point in HBA when you clearly have no faith in him? See also Obertan/Marveaux/Sammy/Ferguson/Gouffran/Dummett/Haidara.

I'm guessing until Remy is fit, we'll continue to see LdJ and HBA rotating with the starting one hauled off as first sub if it isn't working.

Some top mind games by Mourinho this weekend. Lose on purpose to put all the pressure on Liverpool and Man City. Already working with Man City dropping points yesterday.

They can't offer the kind of wages they'd need to compete with Bayern over the long term. Their squad is still really young and plenty of their players have the potential to get a lot better, but most of them won't spend the prime of their career at Dortmund. Eventually most of them will follow in the footsteps of Götze and Lewandowski and go to clubs that can double, triple or even quadruple their wages.

They will ultimately face the same fate that Bayer Leverkusen, Werder Bremen and all the other German clubs that have briefly challenged Bayern's supremacy over the last 20 years have, even if their time in the sun will have lasted a lot longer than those who came before.

The Dortmund owners are awful. Pathetic and lack ambition. The 51% are just profiteering on the club, selling all of the assets and not replacing them. Minimum spend, maximum income. The 51% are killing all hope, and love for the club. It's worse than 2005. At least then the club had dreams.

And they're totally incompetent too Why didn't they give Lewandowski a 10 year deal? And put Gotze's release clause higher?

Sunderland are absolutely phenomenal at being shite and salvaging 2-2 draws. They drag teams down to their level somehow.

Lee Mason was abysmal tonight, gave Everton everything. Everton's diving was shocking as well. And their fans were scum.

Newcastle are too fucking stupid at time though. Incompetence for the first not having enough covering defenders from the corner. Second goal was abysmal, playing a counter attacking side, so Newcastle try to stretch the game as far as possible. Delafeuo gets 1v1 with Dummett and Lukaku can get 1v1 with Coloccini. Newcastle fans actually demand stupid tactics, that maximize the opposition game plan and doesn't even play to our strengths at all.

'For me that car park currently leased by the council, is, was, and forever will be Newcastle United Football Club' - Sir Bobby Robson

I know absolutely nothing about buildings and that but it doesn't really seem likely Newcastle are going to redevelop just the Gallowgate. It would cost millions for only a few thousand extra seats. Sheppards East stand/Gallowgate redevelopment plan was only meant to add 8'000 extra seats. And the car park is across the road?

Amazing how to a lot of fans this land is suddenly the most important acre in the world now. And good to see 'asset-stripping' has been added to their vague business vocabulary to make it sound like they have a fucking clue what they are talking about.

There were a few of them, their job's to coordinate and lead the chants and no doubt they'll do the same week in, week out in the league. I'm sure they see missing most of the game as being part of the role they played. I can't be bothered looking it up bit either In Bed With Maradona or The Blizzard had an interview with a Dortmund fan who led their chants.

Edit: pretty sure it was IBWM now I think about it, may have been in the Subculture section...

On Garth Crooks, are their any other black pundits that have a regular slot on BBC shows? I've always wondered if he's got the gig to fill some diversity quota.

He's probably right, as much as I'd want Chelsea to win out of the 3 I'm sure most neutrals would want the club with some history to win over the neveu rich plaything of a Russian oligarch or an emir.

John Carew is on football focus I think. Loads of pundits talk absolute bollocks, so I don't think there's any need to bring race into it.

I reckon the FA should ban Ramires for the season, absolutely horrible that.

Sunderland have 13 players out of contract/loan expiring at the end of the season. So arguably Sunderland have questionable commitment in the run in.

Oscar Ustari
Keiren Westwood
Andrea Dossena
Carlos Cuellar
Phil Bardsley
Jack Colback
Craig Gardner
Sebastian Larssson

Santiago Vergini
Fabio Borini
Ki Sung-Yong
Ondrej Celutska
Marcos Alonso

Plus Cattermole was close to leaving. Altidore/Roberge/Mavrias/Giaccherini barely playing and possibly wanting to leave in the summer.

Will Steve Bruce sign them all in the summer though?

Yeah, and Kinnear clearly has some sort of trouble with pronunciation. Comparing him to Roy Hogdson would have been a better example.
