Pardew's record for the first two and a bit seasons is a lot better than Moyes' tbf.

Hope this at least distracts Martinez or the Wigan squad though.

Do you mean Monaco are going to be forced to pay corporation tax? Or are their players going to be forced to pay income tax?

If it's the former, the surely Monaco aren't going to be losing any advantage as they're not going to be making any profits anyway

Swansea have a relatively low level of revenue. And from a manager's point of view having an extra £30m a year on the wage budget will be appealing.

Without the revenue streams, Swansea are potentially one bad season away from slipping back into becoming a Championship club again. Their 2012 accounts actually look quite similar to Wolves'.

Surely Swansea is a more steady ship financially than Everton?

I Doubt it. Everton have much larger revenues and wage bill. Swansea are debt free, but Everton debt level doesn't look too bad, and they do have the new PL deal coming in.

Although I really can't see why Laudrup would go to Everton, seems an unnecessary stepping stone. I reckon after next season he will be able to get a biggish foreign club. Schalke/Leverkusen/Valencia type club. Or maybe even higher. His playing career CV is excellent.

Mark Hughes' time at Fulham seems to have been completely forgotten, he was pretty average there.

Yeah, maybe the triple A players might choose to go elsewhere.

That said arguably only Ferdinand and van Persie were signed as triple A players, out of the current team.

I can't see many players turning down Man Utd because of Moyes. 99% of players etc.

Quite amazing though how in a couple of days, Chelsea will be massive favourites for next year. Assuming Mourinho to Chelsea and Moyes to Manchester United.

Although I think Moyes will have an impossible job. I reckon Mourinho would have been the perfect appointment, with his ego and getting Manchester through the first few years. Weirdly I also think Benitez would be a good appointment.

He was smiling because he knows he's going to get a player sent off due to his acting.

That's why he's an absolute dick and that behaviour is no different to diving, you're conning the referee.

Are you talking about Rafael or David Luiz? Because Rafael is obviously trying to con the referee by feigning innocence.

The likelihood is something will happen in the next 13 days to prevent Newcastle United from being relegated. Equally likely is that whatever it is will have nothing much to do with Newcastle United. Given Alan Pardew's look of mild surprise in his post-match press conference on being informed after this game that Wigan's victory at West Bromwich Albion meant staying in the Premier League was now out of his team's hands, this is perhaps all for the best.
- Guardian

Pardew should be very surprised. As it is still definitely in Newcastle hands. Obviously Wigan and Aston Villa both can't win on the final day. And Stoke, Sunderland and Southampton all have to play each other. Meaning there will be a guarantee on dropped points. (Stoke and Sunderland also have to play Tottenham)

If Newcastle beat QPR, reckon we will be 80% safe.

If Wigan beat Swansea in midweek which everyone expects, followed by Man Utd and Liverpool beating Swansea and Fulham next weekend. Swansea (43) v Fulham (40) could be a potential relegation showdown - Along with Stoke (40) V Southampton (39) and Aston Villa (40) V Wigan.(35)

Strange that no one is mentioning Southampton, for relegation, only a point above Newcastle and Norwich.

Seems to be a bad move. I've seen nothing about the 'split', but news of banning the Telegraph is widespread. Maybe Pardew is doing the media tactics as well.

On another note, I wonder if a journalist has even attempted to get banned from the Britannia on purpose.

I think Sissoko was deeper in latter stages of the Sunderland and Liverpool games and was pretty anonymous.

Benitez to Newcastle Seems to have come from one twitter 'journalist' and a caller confirmed it on Talksport.

I watched the first season. Thought it was OK. Some fun moments, but came across as a bit shallow, with the characters coming across as very two dimensional.

Is anyone watching Boss with Kelsey Grammar? It's excellent.

Okay maybe I worded it wrong, we did have possession but we looked like we had no creativity going forward. It's pointless trying to play Cabaye as a playmaker unless we've got strong attacking players around him like the end of last season, putting him there and then dropping Gouffran seemed nonsensical. Don't know what you're on about the second half for, we were two goals down at that point and we were chasing the game, conceding more can be expected.

And why shouldn't the crowd be against it? Incredibly negative tactics for a home game and Tiote has barely had a good game all season. I really don't know why you're so incessant on blaming the crowd, naturally we're going to be negative based on current performances.

It's hard to say how negative we set out to be with Newcastle conceding the early goal, but the side wasn't actually that negative. Cabaye was pushed high up and Perch was about in the normal CM position. It wasn't any more negative than when Newcastle went on that great run last year with Jonas, Tiote and Cabaye as a trio. And more attacking than when we went on a good run early last year when we barely conceded any goals.

The main problem at Newcastle at the moment is an inbalanced squad. if we do go with a variation of a 4-3-3 we either need incisive wingers who can score/get in the final third, or CM's to get in the box to support Cisse and at the moment we are doing neither.

We've lost HBA and Demba Ba from the wings since last season. Gouffran and Marveaux are good players and tidy in possession but neither of them are particularly dangerous in the final third, nor is Jonas. And none of our central midfielders are comfortable getting into the box, meaning our main attack is balls in from the wing with Cisse up against four or so defenders in the box.

-I'm annoyed at the crowd because I reckon if they would relax, the performances might actually come and we would be a good 5 or 6 points better off.

- Booing someone after their first bad cross/shot/through ball is counter-productive, when it normally leads to players then being reluctant to put in another cross/shot/through ball.

What team would you select vs West Ham next weekend?

------------------------Cisse
Marveaux-Cabaye-Perch-Jonas-Gouffran

Or could return to a 4-4-2 with Perch and Cabaye deep.

Well Pardew did put on two wingers at half time and Newcastle conceded four. And Newcastle had more possession than Liverpool. My point is the crowd are against the double pivot as a matter of principle. I can see why Pardew did it, to try and free Yohan Cabaye.

After home defeats you seem to come home and have a pop at your fellow supporters, not the players or Pardew. I don't get it.

By Number 1 | Permalink | On 27 April 2013 - 23:47 PM
The tactics are baffling - no defensive organisation and playing Cabaye as a holding midfielder behind two DMs who got nowhere near Coutinho or Gerrard all afternoon. The players were shocking but the manager moreso.

Why blame the fans when those in front of them do nothing to positively enliven them?

Because the fans start negative and it seeps to the players.

-The average Newcastle game starts with no atmosphere.
-Then on about 4 minutes the crowd will get ratty about something. Normally a misplaced pass or something minor. - It becomes a crisis.
-This will normally build up until they score their first goal. General uproar.
-Why isn't Pardew changing it? is asked. Who is actually on the bench is totally irrelevant.
-Crowd will start chanting for Hatem Ben Arfa, regardless of how unfit and overweight he is.
-Get stuck in etc;
-Half time. Crowd get behind team, performance picks up but no goal, crowd revert.
-Pardew changes it - often the only fit offensive first team player is Ameobi. Crowd criticise decision.
-75 mins - large gaps in the crowd begin to appear.

Today the negativity started before kick off when it was announced Newcastle would play two holding midfielders. At home. The shock, the horror. Heresy. In a week when Bayern and Dortmund both played the double pivot and both won with big margins.

Actually attempting to keep possession is hated, with players shouted at for not getting the ball forward as quickly as possible. Any pass backwards is also hated.

In truth, the performance today wasn't that bad, we've played much worse than that this season. Fulham, West Ham, Swansea, Southampton and QPR performances were worse, and Newcastle actually played some nice stuff from about the 30 minute mark and Liverpool's third. Liverpool were excellent though. Best team at SJP all season.

I've never warmed to Pardew, but at least give the bloke a chance, we were fifth last year.

Sitting in a stadium with several thousand grown men (often with young children), shouting abuse for 70 minutes (when they leave) over a football match. They need to grow up.

Also some top banter by Liverpool fans, who started chanting 'Paulo Di Canio' whilst I think doing Nazi salutes. Classic.

I love the complaining about this being too harsh, while also complaining about other decisions being too lenient are the best.

And the 'FA saying that biting is worse than racism' argument. Absolute morons.

I do feel sorry for the FA in this. Their disciplinary process is designed towards punishing bad tackles. And it will be near impossible to deal with racism, exceptional bad tackles, punches, slaps and violence to referees and fans effectively.

The difference here is, Dortmund didnt weaken potential rivals (Mainz? 1860? Stuttgart? Hertha? You gotta be kidding) in contrast to Bayern (Klose, Ismael, Pizarro (Werder at that time), Ballack (Leverkusen at that time), Baumjohann (Schalke at that time) etc.)
Draxler?? LOL
Schürrle is going to Chelski.
Herrmann is most likely.
Christian Eriksen is in the mix now as well.

imo constantly buying young players from smaller clubs (and probably paying very little) is worse than buying from title rivals who are probably selling at the higher than market value and can afford a replacement. By keeping the small clubs small and weak it's probably going to cause more of a chasm of wealth than Bayern spending a lot on flavours of the month.

Not that I think there is anything wrong with it. I think it's excellent management.

Regarding Draxler. - Is it really that unthinkable to move from Schalke to Dortmund?

I would class Dortmund as the biggest 'cancer' in German football. - Bayern have produced Lahm, Kroos, Schweinsteiger, Alaba, Badstuber which is a reasonable chunk of their first team squad. Plus Contento, Emre Can and Hojbjerg. The players Bayern have purchased have been brought in have often been quite expensive. Dortmund can at least do something with the £32m

Dortmund signed most of their squad from lesser German sides - Subotic, Sven Bender, Leitner, Gundogan, Reus, Scheiber, Piszczek. (And they signed Hummels aswell) And I doubt they paid well for most of them.

Any chance of Draxler going to Dortmund? Or Shurrle or Herrmann?

Martinez, Scweinsteiger, Kroos, Ribery,Muller, Gotze (as a false 9)?

Gomez and Robben to leave. Not sure where it would lead Mandzukic though. He's been brilliant this season.

Fingers crossed Heynckes to Newcastle in the summer and he brings Mandzukic with him.
