True. Rather be spat at than have a serious injury and potentially lose millions of pounds and the risk of not recovering/not fully recovering though.

I meant in terms of overreaction. Spitting always has a massive overreaction.

Normally when a player is sent off for a late challenge it is because they've went with their studs, or lunged, or went in with two feet.
Carroll went with his face, which suggests he probably went for the ball and couldn't stop. Going for headers and the high ball is almost always dangerous, and there is always the potential for a clash of heads.
Would you have sent Vidic off for going in late and seriously endangering De Gea?

England has always produced technically gifted players. David Beckham is the most capped outfield player, a man with no pace or physical presence and all technical ability. Compared to our great rivals and overachievers, Germany who have Lothar Matthaus as their most capped player. Generally synonymous with boring technocratic football.
'Technically gifted' as a phrase is generally nonsense. It generally means passing and control, but only by a player who is already known to be a good passer. 'The difference between a long pass and a long ball is the passer'. And it totally excludes certain techniques as being technique. Andy Carroll's outstanding heading ability is disregarded because he's tall. Long range shooting is also disregarded for some reason.
Looking at the potential England team for 2014 if we qualify - our midfield is going to be completely outclassed by Germany and Spain. Therefore trying to match up on an even basis is almost certainly not going to work. England therefore must innovate and attempt to become for that the sum of their parts. One option I suppose is trying to get the ball to Carroll as I reckon Carroll would have the beating of Hummels/ Boateng/ Badstuber/ Mertesacker if we can play to his strengths.
'And Carroll failed at Liverpool because he was required to more than tall' - he didn't fail at Rodger's Liverpool, - he failed at Dalglish's - remember? Kenny 'hasn't adapted tactically in 20 years, hoof it to a target man, taking football backward' Dalglish.
'Carroll gets assist' - 'Doesn't count because he's tall.' So? Messi would be a much lesser player if he didn't have great pace. Or control, or finishing.
In regards to his thuggery that he wouldn't get away with in European competitions. Andy Carroll has never been booked in an international game. He's also received one career red card. - while playing for Preston when he was 18. Obviously a liability - unlike Rooney.
Oh and that challenge on De Gea looked totally accidental - as a genuine attempt for the ball. He lead with his head and seemingly made no attempt for self-preservation. A yellow card offense.

England should probably just pick Carroll anyway. He's probably the best in the world at what he does. Where not going to beat Spain or Germany at their game, so we should maybe try and play a different game.

Cynically could suggest the timing is a bit suspicious but I don't think Ashley really does that sort of thing. He has a different way of operating than most traditional chairman and directors.

Arteta has always been dirty - in a Yohan Cabaye kinda way. And Leighton Baines must be one of the worst offenders for getting in a referees face and demanding decisions and cards.

I reckon that the offender should be sent to jail, because throwing a smoke canister hard from 100 feet up could have really done some damage. No different from punching someone in the street.
(I'm presuming smoke canisters are made of a hard material, so it would really hurt getting hit by one.)

No Newcastle fans as used a smokebomb as a weapon.
And yes Newcastle fans have used smoke bombs, they deserve to be banned. And I'm not a fan of them anyway, I find them really fucking annoying.
And what do you think the punishment should be? For throwing the smoke canister, bottles and the Millwall fans who were fighting at Wembley?

Shame both teams couldn't lose. Sunderland fans were worse wishing death on Steven Taylor again. And there was a smoke cannister thrown which could have done some serious damage if it someone. Someone should go to jail for that.

Reading have been fairly defensive this season, with his side having very little possession and little pressing.
Hard to say, but I reckon he may done well for avoiding a Derby/Sunderland points tally. There seems to very little PL quality in that squad.

And are you suggesting I may be in a similar financial position to Dimitar Berbatov, Carlos Tevez and Edwin Van der Sar? I think they can afford the luxury of not having to sit in the middle seat.

That said when he took over 19 games ago, QPR had 4 points and they now have 24 points, so theoretically if he had a full season he would be set to gain 40 points. And probably keep QPR up. Compared to the previous management which was set to achieve 13 points.
In that time frame QPR have gained 20 points, where as Reading have gained 14, Aston Villa 22, Southampton 26, Wigan 17, Newcastle 22, Norwich 20, Stoke 18, Fulham 23, Swansea 24, West Ham 18, West Brom 18.
Obviously this sort of stat can be massively misleading due to how the fixtures fall for every team. But what can also be misleading is that QPR are further away from safety than when Redknapp took over. As Aston Villa and Southampton the early season strugglers have both started winning, pulling them clear of the relegation struggle to be replaced by teams in freefall who had seemingly decent points tallies but no form. Theoretically if Redknapp keeps QPR at the same rate they are going they will get a lot closer to Sunderland and Stoke. - Unless they get out of freefall.
Regarding the players brought in, Remy looks a good player, QPR should be able to sell both him and Samba for decent money if they go down. And I can't see Jenas, Townsend, Suk or Ben Haim being particulary expensive. Jenas maybe? But Aston Villa and Nottm Forest were able to afford him.
Anyway after Samba's horrorshow against Fulham, a lot of criticism seemed to be levelled at Redknapp for being poor in the transfer market and bringing in a useless player on big money. Which is quite impressive how Samba went from universally popular to a joke after signing for Redknapp.

Carroll only really had a good 12 months at Newcastle, the calendar year of 2010, where he stepped up from squad player and scored loads of goals, and was then sold.
Also the idea that a team has to be 'built' around Carroll is a bit of a myth, Newcastle was never built around Carroll.
